My wife and I decided to try this activity after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp, we are both 59 and in reasonable shape, although neither one of us own a bicycle or have ever tried an electric bike. We signed up on the business website directly, (www.gojourneyrides.com) not through TripAdvisor, we elected to do the 2 hour Scenic Sonoran Stroll tour. Booking was very easy, a text was received after booking online with instructions on where to go to meet. At the appointed time, we met the very friendly Brandon and another family of 5 that were also in our group. Brandon went over the operation of the bikes and had us practice for a few minutes in the parking lot, the bikes are very intuitive, although my wife was very anxious because she had never been on a bike with gears before. The electric bike mechanism actually works by "assisting" your own peddling, making it effortless, we liked them so much, we are considering buying a couple for home. We both agreed that if we lived in Arizona, we would have to have a couple of these bikes! The area that we went on for the ride was absolutely beautiful, especially for a couple from Ohio that have really not done much exploring in the desert. The ride to the area was along a cement sidewalk and pea gravel type ground that gave us ample opportunity to experiment with the gears and settings on the bike, by the time we reached the off-road trails, we felt pretty confident. As I mentioned earlier, my wife was pretty anxious, and although she is in pretty good shape, she is not athletic in the least, by the time the trip was done she was very happy that she gave it a try, and now wants to do it again. Why hike in the hot sun, only getting a few miles on a dusty road when you can cruise along on an electric bike with a breeze on your face? This was a great mix of mild physical activity and sightseeing, perfect for your average tourist or office worker!  I went on the tour after my coworkers took it the day before and came back to the hotel singing its praises. It was a good decision. We were able to see a decent chunk of the surprisingly lush desert and have fun while doing it. Brandon was a very patient and knowledgeable guide; he got a lot of pictures for us and his instructions for using the bikes (I was a first time rider) were very helpful. My husband treated me and five of my friends to a 2 hour desert tour on February 21, 2020. All of us are 50+ years of age and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our guide, Jesse, was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and attentive. You can't ask for more. In fact he is the best tour guide I've ever had. Jesse made sure we were safe, that we had fun and that we learned about desert cacti. When I return to the Scottsdale area, I will definitely go on another tour with Journey Rides. read more

My wife and I were looking for a fun and innovative way to explore the Arizona desert on our vacation, and Journey Arizona Tours offered us the perfect opportunity! We were lucky to be the only two riders on a recent afternoon tour. First Brandon and Kevin patiently worked with us to master the electric bikes. The bikes were awesome! You can control how much you want to pedal, and how much 'help' you want the throttle to give you, which was really a plus going up some steep hills! Actually, it was fun to speed around on full power for most of the tour! Both Brandon and Kevin were so accommodating, gracious and informative. We learned so much about the Sonoran Desert, and were surprised at all the plants and wildlife that thrive in the area. We enjoyed our experience. We went on an off-road bike trail ride using the electric assist bikes. Our guide Brandon was a patient teacher on using the bikes , because they do require a skill to ride. He gave excellent step by step instruction, and communicated with a lot of examples. Once we got out on the trail he never rushed us at any point. We made many scenic stops along the way. Each stop included some interesting facts about the history of the area or the native plants or the current changes in the Scottsdale region. We went on our tour as a first step to our vacation and this turned out to be lucky because Brandon had so much knowledge about our options for more fun such as hiking, sights and things to do. We are both road bike riders and thought that the idea of an electric off road bike sounded like fun. It truly was a lot of fun!! Brandon is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert and is overflowing with information that he is delightful in his sharing. You will come back with an appreciation of the beauty of the desert and just how cool it is to ride up the hills with a twist of the throttle. This is how the desert was before the development arrived and started converting this pristine natural wonder to shopping centers, asphalt parking lots and residential subdivisions. Brandon took great care to insure that we could safely ride our bicycles. Training rides in the parking lot were a comfortable prelude to hitting the trails and dancing around the cactus. It is after all, a real desert with cactus that have a lot of sharp needles and thorns. Brandon led the ride at a comfortable pace with great care and detailed instructions on exactly how to negotiate obstacles whenever the trail had any challenges. He would then demonstrate how to do whatever he had coached you on and watched carefully to make sure you got through unscathed. The bikes themselves are a hoot to ride, with knobby tires on softly inflated tires, you have great traction and plenty of power to get up and haul very quickly along the trail. Timing is important when crossing from the downhill to the uphill. Braking as you come down the hillside and then off the brakes, pedaling and cranking the throttle to climb out of the wash with ease and authority. Overall a great adventure. The scenery, the wildlife, the scents of the desert, the silence and the sounds of the desert. Heartily recommend and we will be doing it again with friends. Brandon went to great lengths to personalize the experience and share his affection for this wonderful natural beauty, It does not feel packaged, but rather like a friend who is taking you out for a fun ride in the desert read more

Did the sunset tour with Brandon. It was outstanding. Just enough excitement. Had my wife, who doesn't ride, and my daughter with me. Everyone got the hang of it quickly. honestly 5 stars is not enough! this is a late review from 2/10/18, Brandon went ABOVE & well beyond for us, we only had one day that we were available to actually do the tour and he made sure he got some help on another tour so he could take us out. I really didn't know what to expect booking this but I am extremely happy that we did, my two boys (ages 13/14) and my niece (age 16) LOVED it. I definitely recommend this tour. he explained everything in depth and took awesome photos and videos for us! if you are looking for something different to do with beautiful scenery and a great tour guide this is it!! well worth every penny and those electric bikes are awesome! read more
