The price is great, and while I was very nervous belaying for the first time the staff took their time explaining everything. They also checked in repeatedly to make sure I was comfortable. I've come to PRG (this abbreviation is what climbers call it) a few times mainly for skills training, once for climbing ascend skills training and another time recently for caving ascend skills training. Dief, the owner, is a great guy and let's climber/caver groups come in to practice in his gym, I really appreciate the community vibe here. I would say this is an older gym so things are a bit worn down but the vibe here is great. Very welcoming and close to the ASU campus so lots of college students here. I wish their bouldering section was bigger and this is where BP spoils me. BRG up north also has way more bouldering options, but keep in mind, BP and BRG are solely bouldering gyms. Alta out in Chandler and Gilbert also has way more bouldering options too but it's a much newer gym. Overall, a very solid climbing gym and you can feel the community vibe here. I'd definitely come back here again to climb, train, etc.!

We spent a few hours here, but truthfully could have stayed all day! A couple of climbing newbies tagged along with us, and the Alta team did a great job with orientation. We were also able to quickly get belay certified, which unlocked the entirety of the gym! I was so blown away by how many routes they had available - we barely scratched the surface. The auto-belay kid-friendly area was so cool as well  - I love that they're going out of their way to make climbing fun and accessible for folks of all ages. My cousin and younger sister really enjoyed the theming - they said they felt like superheroes scaling a building to save someone! Everything was clean and well-maintained, and since we visited at a slower time, we had our choice of routes the entire time! I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area, and I highly recommend Alta to new and experienced climbers alike!

On our first visit, I dropped off my 12-year-old daughter to climb with a friend who is in a league at Alta Climbing. During that session, my daughter texted me saying staff told her she needed to sign a waiver and repeatedly suggested she "just say you are 14." Encouraging a minor to lie on a legal waiver is completely inappropriate. She did not lie, and I picked her up without issue. I assumed that if we returned, I would sign whatever waiver was needed. Because she loved climbing, we came back the following weekend. This time, we were initially told the friend could use a friend pass again. Then another associate, Shelley, who turned out to be the manager, told me I needed to purchase a membership. There was no explanation of what the membership includes, no tour, and no effort to orient me as a new customer. The only thing emphasized was making sure her name was listed on the form, which is why it stood out. She paused me mid-signature to remind me to add her name, then walked away while I continued filling out a form I was later told I did not need. She eventually called out from the counter that I should stop completing it. After paying $148, I prepared to leave like I had the previous week and was then told I could not leave and needed to return to the iPads to sign another waiver in order to stay. This was never explained upfront. I was also told I needed to take a class to help clip the kids into the climb, which again contradicted what had been allowed just one week earlier. At that point, I had paid, had no clear understanding of what my membership actually includes, and was told I had to stay, yet no one explained where I should be or what I was expected to do. I understand safety rules and waivers. What I don't understand is the inconsistent execution, lack of transparency, and absence of basic customer service. All of this could have been avoided with clear, upfront communication. This should have been a rewarding and exciting experience for my daughter. Instead, she picked up on the poor customer experience and ended up apologizing to me, which was the opposite of what I wanted for her. My daughter enjoys climbing, and I will likely keep the membership simply because there are no other comparable options nearby. However, the lack of customer service and questionable integrity around policy enforcement makes me uncomfortable with how seriously this gym takes customer safety and experience.

He tailored the trip specifically to my needs and mixed the trip with some great climbs, awesome pointers, and an easy-to-remember overview of how to rig a safe system for a solo climb (something that is pretty specialized and not necessarily easy to find good info on). Caleb was such a knowledgable dude. So knowledgable that another instructor from a different climbing company started asking him for tips! I felt totally safe while also being encouraged to take my climbing to the next level. I would recommend to all!! Children and old people, inexperienced and pros, and also every one in between.
