She's great! My braids are Always on point! I am very particular about who touches my hair and I do not tolerate tight braids and headaches. I never feel any pain when I get my braids done. And I love that my box braids have consistent width and length, which some braiders do not know how to do when I experienced them in the past. I found this braider and I love her! And she is affordable and well worth it!!!!!

I contacted Destiny and a few other people at 8am, she was the first to respond which worked in my favor, because I initially admired her work. I made an appointment and got my hair done the same day. She was fast so I was in & out in about 4 hours. I wanted to try Marley twists so I checked out Craigslist. I found Destiny, she answered all the questions I had, replied quickly. She let me know how much hair I needed and how much time it would take. She was on time and finished my hair exactly when she said she would. She used the hair I bought, no more no less. She's super sweet and treats you like she's known you for years. Great prices, and My hair came out perfect and it was so quick. I will definitely be going back. She's got a new life time customer. read more

Oh my goodness...I just adore Des and her family! It's like having family do your hair. I'm so comfortable in her chair.... This is my second set of Feed-In Braids by Des and I have 2 more appointments already on the books, her braiding would last probably 2.5-3 weeks but I do t wrap my hair...she is very gentle and committed to quality and professional! Destiny did an EXCELLENT job. So glad I found Destiny on Yelp. She did kinky twist on my mini me's hair and she is quick and efficient. This is my first time meeting her and I felt so comfortable with her. She is very welcoming, super personable and answered all my questions because we have never done the twists before. I had a great time talking with her, it honestly felt like I had known her for forever and it was like catching up with an old friend. Amazing to because I don't warm up to people easily. Anyway, she went right to work and the time flew. I can't wait to get my twist done. Her talent is real, she can do all kinds of braids and twists, just look at the Yelp pictures. We just left and went to Ralph's and my mini me is getting all kinds of compliments. I am definitely a fan and will be a repeat client. She's great! My braids are Always on point! I am very particular about who touches my hair and I do not tolerate tight braids and headaches. I never feel any pain when I get my braids done. Getting my Marleys done has never been so sweet. The pictures are true, the talent is real, the consistency is real, and perhaps most importantly, Destiny GETS that this is a protective style (albeit gorgeous)!! By that, I mean that she showed tender love and care for my hair as she was doing it--which is RARE nowadays; she moisturized my scalp, while working swiftly to put my twists in! Moreover, my hair looked SUPER neat after she was finished, without her even having to trim up and down the twists for flyaways (which I LOVE because I feel like some of my growth is often lost because other stylists are waaaay too trim happy). Time went by so quickly while I was in her hands- partly because she works super fast, but also because she's a great conversationalist. She is also suuuuper honest about whether or not she'll be able to do a style on your head- if you show her a picture and she has never done something before, she won't waste your time or your dollars. Giver her your business. You wont regret it. I'll be back. read more

I got box braids on 10/27 for an upcoming trip to Jamaica. I was able to get an appointment that matched my schedule with very good pricing. On the day of my appointment, she did a good job and was fast. She was very friendly and I was satisfied. When I took my braids out on Sunday, my natural hair was very tangled and seemed to be twisted. It was very hard to detangle and a lot of my hair fell out. I am aware that there is shedding but this was not normal. I had braids earlier this year and did not have the same experience. I sent a picture to my hairstylist and she confirmed that I should not lose this much hair. I don't know what her braiding technique is but I would be careful. read more

I've been to Destiny twice for a style and once for a touch up and I was pleased every time. She's professional,cares about hair, reasonable, she doesn't hurt, she's neat, and following all COVID guidelines. She made me feel welcomed in her chair and listened to every hair concern I had, ( I can be picky lol) but she definitely has a returning client in me. Destiny is amazing, her spring twists will change your (or get you a) life! From the first day I got my twists until now some 2 weeks later, I'm still getting compliments on my hair everywhere I go (at work, while in church, out running errands, or even just standing still). Spring twists by Destiny are a great protective hairstyle, very low maintenance, versatile, won't pull your edges, and compliments any face shape. Trust me, you need these twists, and the hair needed for installation is really inexpensive as well. Get these twists. You and your wallet will be glad you did. read more

I recently had twist done with Stylist. All communication was prompt and efficient. Upon arrival, Destiny was ready to tackle my head. She was patient with me and my many questions, and wanted to ensure I received exactly what I wanted. Seriously! This 'business' is a joke. I regretfully write this review as I was EXTREMELY dissapointed with the services I received from Destiny. The people from yelp have failed me. But then again, I believe these are fake '5 star reviews' that may possibly have been made up by friends because there's no way that these reviews are real. Let's begin with the environment. I contacted Destiny days prior to confirm appointment. I arrived on time at 10 am. However, the 'business' is not what I expected. "Journey Braids" is being operated in a nasty and disgusting section 8 apartment out of Long Beach. Im serious. As soon as i walked in, the was a foul odor with yucky, and unclean carpet with stains everywhere. There was no furniture with TOYS EVERYWHERE! OMG! What on God's green earth was even thinking? I told myself multiple times to just calm down and I kept 'Yelp Reviews' in the back of my mind to keep me there. She started right on time and was pleasant. Thats about the only positive thing I have. She was done almost 7 hours later and i was so distastefully displeased. The parts were soooooo uneven and crooked. It looked like a 5 year old with 1 hand and 3 fingers did my extensions. All of my friends and family laughed at me. As I'm writing this review, Im getting upset. So I'm logging off. EDIT: 10/25/2014 After many weeks of getting my so called hair braided from this FAKE business, I decided to write more after I cooled off (or so I thought). Please take a look at the so called'braids' that she had the audacity to charge me $100 for. I'm still upset the fact that the people of yelp have sincerely disappointed me. But then again, I still stand by my statement that these must be reviews by her friends or family because there's no way that this girl even went to school for hair. Please go to a better LICENSED hairstylist, because this girl isn't it! And BTW... it took me over a WEEK (about 3 washes) to completely wash out the amount of edge control that this girl abused in my hair. SMH. BUYER BEWARE.... HER REVIEWS ARE FAKE!!!!!!!! read more

I went to Destiny to get Marley twists for the first time and I am absolutely in LOVE. I have rocked box braids, Senegalese twists, and imitation dreads and have to say that these Marley twists are by far my favorite! I wanted to try something new and I found Destiny on Yelp and I'm so glad I made that initial appointment. I have a silkier grade of hair so as much as I love wearing braids/twists as a protective style, they never last long in my hair because they easily slip out so I always felt like in the end I was wasting my money. I did some research and came across Marley twists which require a kinkier brand of hair. I have had my twists for 2.5 weeks and none have slipped! Destiny has reasonable prices, she's friendly, and fast. I also like that she doesn't use cheap products in your hair. I am a happy and satisfied client who will definitely be returning in the future! read more

I have been going faithfully since March 2018 and she always does a great job on my natural hair. I'm also tender headed and I never feeling like she is pulling my hair too hard so that over course is a plus for me. Destiny is such an awesome Braider. In my 27 years of getting my hair done I've never had gotten box braids. I was very hesitant at first but destiny made me feel so comfortable that I decided to get them. She is so quick at braiding. My braids came out beautifully. I would recommend her to anyone who has never gotten box braids. They were not heavy at all and I didn't have any tension in the front of my hairline. I recently got crochet braids done with curly hair. Fabiola did a great job. She was waiting for my right on time when I arrived. She completed my style in only 2 hours. She checked in frequently while she was braiding to make sure everything was ok. When she was finishing up she made slight adjustments I asked for, ending up with my hair styled perfectly. The shop was clean and well kept. I was able to find free street parking nearby. read more

I found Hair by Julianne Cho and was booked with Sumi, and I'm so glad I trusted her! Sumi was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive throughout the entire appointment. She actually recommended a softer, wavier perm, but I kept insisting I wanted it curlier (lol). She listened to exactly what I wanted while still giving me honest professional advice, which I really appreciated. She also recommended getting a haircut beforehand, and I'm SO glad I listened. I have really thick hair with a lot of density, and she spent about 40 minutes cutting it. She didn't rush at all and was so meticulous. She removed just enough weight while keeping my length, added beautiful long layers, and gave my hair so much more movement and dimension. The perm came out exactly how I was hoping! My hair feels so much lighter, the curls are beautiful, and I'm honestly obsessed with the result. I drove about an hour from the Valley, and it was 100% worth it. Jennifer agreed to accommodate me and even stayed after hours to work on me. She assessed my hair and decided what to do (we ended up removing 50% of the extensions -- the previous salon had added too much hair so she could charge me for more hair, which was one of the reasons I ended up looking like I was wearing a wig). Jennifer cut the width of the extensions and replaced them at the most natural position for my head shape, and blended everything together seamlessly. Jennifer, you are amazing!!! Thank you so much. I ended up booking for Wednesday afternoon, parked nearby the coffee shop. Wasn't a busy day. Arlene is such a hair expert! I told her I prefer short hair for the volume and she showed me some ideas. We decided that a short bob would be best to fix my mess! She did a fantastic job fixing up the uneven pieces, making sure to fix the bangs so it would grow out nicely. She also showed me how to style it at home, since short hair is high maintenance. I'm super happy with how it turned out, and I'll definitely be back when it's time to trim. Through the non-profit "Children with Hair Loss" Du Japon Hair Club was vetted for donations and is the only approved salon in the Los Angeles area. I met Yuki, who owns and operates this salon and also one of the best stylists I've had in my years of barbers. She is so nice and explained the process of the donation and also provided guidance on selecting the best hair cut for me. After looking at a few photos, I decided to go with a moderate cut to ease back into the general population. I was so happy with the results and would recommend Yuki to any of my friends. She will only take appointments and is the busiest during the weekend. I would recommend calling well in advance for your appointment, as she works generally towards the end of the week through the weekend.

To top it off when I called to tell her she did not apologize, she did not act as though she felt bad her response was not caring at all. Not to mention she didn't offer any advice or a refund. Now it will take me years to get my hair healthy and I'm so upset.

I booked my second appt with Sal Salcedo months ago. He was aware this was the appt before my…read morewedding. I was called one hour before the start time and told he was running 15 min late. I said I had another appt after but that would be fine. I arrived and sat down and waited. They said I was checked in. I waited one hour before going to the front desk to say that now, I would not have time to do the appt because, as I told them, I would have to leave for another appt. I had allotted 2 hours and now there was only 1 hour left and I had not even been seen or sent for hair washing. All the while I waited, I could see Sal doing at least 2 other people's hair. When I asked the front desk if I could reschedule, they said they would talk to him. Several minutes passed. Sal was aware that I was there, but chose not to speak to me himself. He chose not to even take two minutes to face me and apologize. He was going to Mexico the next night, and could only offer the next day during hours I had to work. The salon manager apologized for Sal and offered another hair dresser. I have curly hair and want someone experienced in curly hair- especially when the haircut is right before my wedding and will cost hundreds of dollars. I think the worst part was that Sal was right there but simply didn't have the courtesy to apologize. I will never return to this salon. As for my wedding in two weeks, I have asked my makeup artist to help me find someone.

I specifically said I was willing to pay the extra because I did not want yellow or orange roots. Not only did my roots remain yellow after processing and toner, but since the appointment I now have noticeable breakage on the bottom of my hair that was not present beforehand. My hair appear fragile and uneven, and my hair feels significantly thinner since this appointment. I can't even run my fingers through it .......it feels extremely dry, rough, and damaged. During styling, I also received a burn on my ear from her curling iron. When I raised concerns about the color result. It was dismissed rather than addressed. She told me it was impossible to get my roots bright blonde with regrowth this long....... after already charging me extra for the double process and assuring me it could be done. This service was performed by Jaime, the owner. I am now left with breakage in the back, damaged hair, and yellow roots.

Of course, I turned to Yelp for the scoop and zeroed in on Ms. Glen's Therapeutic Manicures & Pedicures. I finally got a chance to go see Ms. Glen and it was everything I wanted and more. It was relaxing (I fell asleep)! It was restorative! My feet felt and looked healthy and cared for. I didn't get polished which is great because I have been wanting to go natural for a while to let my nails breathe and focus on what's really happening with my toe nail health. So may things I loved (in no particular order): - Very communicative from the appointment (via phone) to the confirmation and directions (via text) - Ms. Glen greeted me at the door - The studio smells divine (really sets the tranquil mood) - The studio was intimate (just me - yay) - The space was very clean (I am a stickler for clean) - There was a complimentary water waiting on me - Ms. Glen has developed her own techniques and products which speaks to her dedication and specialization (I love people who are passionate about what they do!) - Every step of the treatment was appreciated! (very detailed, very attentive, think - pampering your feet from the in-depth massage to the parrafin to the soaks to the grooming and much much more) - I got socks! This was such a special and much needed last step that I never knew I needed. It made my feet more comfortable and protected after such a beautiful treatment. She even asked me my size. How's that for customer service! - Now this one may seem trivial but I never had to hold my feet up during the treatment unless I was transitioning from the bowl to a towel. I do not like having to do that while someone attends to the bottom of my feel or heels. Ms. Glen has it worked out where I can truly relax the whole time. I also left with one of Ms. Glen's therapeutic hand and foot oils in Lemon. She makes the oils herself! It smells so good and leaves a refreshing but not overpowering scent. It feels good oiling my feet every night. Like another reviewer said, this is not your run of the mill pedicure shop. This is a therapeutic service that is worth every penny. My goal is to make this a regular treatment. If my feet are healthy, I am healthier! Thanks Ms. Glen for such a wonderful experience! I'll be back. If your feet are in need of TLC, renewal and restoration, Ms. Glen has a carefully curated service that will leave your feet feeling brand new. I had recently purchased a soap that helps with skin discoloration. It hasn't been making any improvement in the uneven skin tone and dark marks on my feet. Turns out I just needed an appointment with Ms. Glen. The exfoliation she provided literally rubbed away 15 years from my feet. My dry scratchy heels were left supple and smooth and the calloused areas were left soft. Had I known what I was in store for I would have taken before and after pictures. She even provided socks for me to leave in, to seal in the moisture. My favorite part hands down was the massage. She kneaded into these tired soles, and I needed that! I paid a little more than the price listed (which she does quote as a base price) but she also spent almost 2x the amount of time listed. My Fiancé noticed the difference in appearance and feel immediately. I intentionally waited until 24 hours+ had passed to write this review, wanting to see if my feet would feel just as nice. THEY DO!! Ms. Glen definitely puts pride in her work and I love how she checked in throughout the process to ensure I was satisfied along the way. I recommend her service to anyone looking to give their feet a more youthful feel and look. And if your feet have severe issues that might keep you from visiting open public salons, her private suite will help you feel comfortable and secure. Right before I left, Ms. Glen threw in a bottle of her therapeutic hand & foot oil once she saw how dry my hands were. I had discussed my upcoming nuptials with her and she wanted to make sure my hands moisturized properly for my big day, even providing a demonstration on proper application. Ms. Glen is a gem!

Unexpected Charges and Lack of Transparency…read more I booked my appointment in person on Tuesday 7/15 because I wasn't sure what to select online for Gel-X removal. I trusted the front desk staff to guide me, and was quoted $80 for Gel-X, builder gel removal, and French tip. At my appointment on Friday 7/18, I was unexpectedly charged $110! I was told the card on file couldn't be used for the service--only for late fees or no-shows--which made no sense. If the salon can charge the card for penalties, why not for the actual service being provided? This was especially frustrating because the appointment was a gift for a huge accomplishment of mine, from my mother, so of course I didn't have the physical card with me. On top of that I was also charged extra for nail length without warning, and billed twice for polish: $20 for gel color and $15 for French tip, even though I only received 1 design; french tip. When I asked for clarification, staff just pointed to the online pricing--but I booked in person to avoid that confusion. The experience felt misleading. I intentionally came in person to avoid confusion and relied on the staff to guide me accurately. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. If you're considering booking here, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for more transparent and customer-friendly service.

Had concerns with my first gel-x experience. It was painful. The tech didn't listen to my requests…read more I did. I was unhappy with the service but still paid full price and tipped accordingly. I came back for a refill, and two days later was in some of the most pain I've ever been in due to a cuticle infection. I voiced concerns that my skin was being cut, but they were shrugged off. After coming into the salon to show them the infection, the front desk staff was polite and helpful advising they would reach out to the owner and share photos they took of the nail. Days passed and I followed up again via phone as I didn't hear back. The owner of the salon requested PHI pertaining to the infection, including what Rx I was on, in order to even consider a refund. Initially, a gift card for the amount spent on the service was offered in lieu of a refund. I mentioned I was not comfortable receiving another service, and received a call back letting me know the owner was willing to grant a refund. Overall, the back and forth took about a week and a half. I was new to the entire gelx process, and am posting this review to let anyone else looking to embark on that journey know they should ask questions and voice their concerns. There are seemingly many happy patrons, but this was my individual experience.

This was my first time getting my daughters hair done in kinky twists; and Destiny was awesome!!! She is very prompt with scheduling her clients which makes it more convenient for customers to keep their appointment times..especially dealing with children. Destiny braiding expertise really shows; not only was she finished with her hair in about 3.5 hours but her hair is still lasting. After my first visit I immediately booked a second appointment for my daughter and when I go to kinky braids I will definitely call her! Destiny is the best! I found Destiny on Yelp and made an appointment for marley twist. I had been going to another braider for a while and suffered from painful twist that caused breakage. I've had my hair done twice by Destiny and loved it both times, her method of invisible twists not only did not hurt my scalp, but I am very excited about the new growth that I have and that the breakage from the other braids is starting to grow out as well. My twists are on the larger side so they go pretty fast the last time was 2.5 hours...Yes!!! I am always giving her number to people that stop me on the street about my twists. I recently went to get the locs I have been seeing online and Destiny did the job even better than I had imagined. She was such a nice person and made me comfortable through out the whole process. She took her time to explain how the locs were going to be Installed and made sure to take good care of my natural hair while she did the install. It took several hours and she made sure I was comfortable the whole time. her work is simply amazing and I will definitely be going back to her soon!!! DESTINY DESTINY!! I have been getting my twist done by her for about 2 years now off and on and Hunty Chile let me tell you...I agree with the other reviews....True Twist Artist in my opinion. She is very meticulous and at the same time she is FAST!! I always get compliments on my twist and one of the compliments are, "Not only are your twist bomb, but whoever did them you could tell did not just slap them in." My parts are all even and neat and the twist still look bomb after 2 months. I could go longer but 2 months is my limit. Welp. Look no further. She is the real deal. I was looking for someone experienced to do Marley twists for me since I had never done them before. I did some research and found Destiny on Yelp. I set up an appointment with her and showed her the style I wanted to do. She gave me good suggestions for hair to buy and provided me with instructions on how to get to her place. She was super fast, finished doing my twists in 3 hours (and I have a lot of thick hair so I was surprised!) The twists turned out great and I got a ton of compliments from people on them. I have received service from Destiny twice now and both times were completely satisfying! Destiny took her time made sure every part was neat and even. When I came to her I Expressed I wanted my front roll to braid straight back so it does not look like I have parts in my ponytail when I pulled my braids up and she executed it perfectly! Her braids or not tight not to heavy and unlike other I had NO problems when I took him out! I recently got Marley Twists from Destiny...and I absolutely L O V E them. Not only was she super fast, but they looked amazing! Everywhere I go, I get asked "who did your twists?" I would recommend anyone who is the market for affordable and stellar service. I haven't had my hair in braids is well over 8 years so I was concerned with the overall look and feel of having the twists done. But I was extremely satisfied with the service I received. I recently let Destiny do my waist length medium size individuals...and I must day they look great, I have received a lot of compliments on them. I explained to her what I wanted and she hit on the nose. Not only that they were very neat and she works very fast...I am more than pleased with my results and have been referring her to a lot of friends, family and people who have stopped me on the street. Journey Braids are definitely amazing! The 1st time I got my hair done, I was getting compliments even until they were OLD and had to be taken out. They lasted me about 2 months. I'm a college student so I'd recommend any college student to Journey Braids. Overall, they're very durable, long lasting, & you have a beautiful turn out. She's always very professional, and is super flexible to work with me on my schedule when booking appointments with her, no matter the time of day. Destiny is very professional, she was on time, didn't take a lot of breaks, and is a talented braided. It was my first time and she was very patient in answering all of my questions. I've gone to Destiny for my Kinky Twists at least 3-4 times and I know I'm in a professionals hands. She's knowledgable in the types of hair needed to achieve different braided styles and my styles last long. Whether I need shorter length twists or long I get exactly what I expect and people are always complimenting on how great my styles look. read more

I've gone to Destiny for individual braids. Not only was she quick and professional, but my braids looked neat. I received many compliments (which as we all know can be the determining factor to return to a hair stylist). She knows her stuff and was able to help me choose the right hair and give advice for how to maintain it. read more

I have had my twists done by Destiny several times! What I like the most is the short amount of time she gets them done in. It takes 4 hours and I have a lot of hair. I have had other braiders that have taken 8-10 hours to do the same twists! I HIGHLY recommend Destiny!! read more
