I was looking for a new braider and found Joan here on Yelp. Her reviews are excellent and absolutely true. I reached out and got a response in a timely manner. The style I wanted was from the pictures Joan posted of a client so it was an easy decision. Scheduling was easy and follow up was also good. My appointment ended up being pushed 30 minutes because her client was late and I got a text from Joan to come 30 minutes later in plenty of time so that I hadn't left the house yet which I appreciated very much. Once I arrived we got right to work: Joan works FAST, is very gentle, and we chatted as she worked but she stayed focused on my hair the whole time. Her braiding space is neat and tidy and I felt comfortable. My hair had some damage from a previous install and Joan gave me some great advice and recommended products to care for my hair. We finished at just under 6 hours and I could not be happier with the result! Absolutely beautiful and neat, I LOVE my braids! And my scalp hasn't bothered me at all: I slept comfortably that same night and I could pull my hair up with no problem. Pricing was very good and the hair was included. This is how I accidentally started my loc journey--- It has been so difficult to find some one to do things beauty wise in LA that is actually good at their craft, has great service and reasonably priced. It's very rare to find all three in one. I was just going to settle for some knotless braids or just a braid down so I could protect my hair under wigs. -- I asked people at work, and nothing. Either their lil sister that doesn't do anyone else's hair or they did it them selves... - I asked my social media friends.... Again NOTHing. I was walking up to random people n the street, Lol apparently in LA no one wants to share where they get their hair done and based on these instagram models I just can't see myself paying $500+ for shotty work and service. I was even willing to fly out. Yesterday my hair was a mess, so I was just going to settle for two strand twist--- and I started reaching out via google to anybody that was under the "braiding" description. Ms @joychosen23 responded with a same day afternoon availability and just 2hrs after showing up at her door, here we are. Two strand twist, that are basically starter locs. She was abnormally gentle, I didn't even feel her touching my head, she had a clean dedicated space that was shaded off from the rest of her apt, she played @cecewinans the whole time so it was a very peaceful environment and she was very easy to talk to. Understandably she couldn't give me a price upfront because she has to see your hair 1st -- and as you can see, my hair lays like baby hair ‍ so my pricing isn't going to be the same as someone with more hair. This is my second time getting my hair braided and it was as good as the first. Joy braids fast so I wasn't there all day. The braids came out wonderful. Very neat, which is what I like.
