Needed to spruce up a bit as my hair was getting out of control and decided to pop into Jose's for a quick chop. Love it when walk ins are welcome and able to squeeze in quickly between appointments. Met Jon who quickly tamed the hairy mess atop my head with style and ease. Relaxed vibe within shop, comfy seating area and TV streaming some baseball for the short wait. Prices are reasonable and support military/first responders, kids and 65+ price specials as well. Street parking out front along with handicap spots within the area. Cash or most of the traditional pay apps accepted (check price photo for listing) and they do beards if you have the need for that service as well. Ensure to stop in and have the team take care of your grooming needs! read more

Well this was my first time here. I have had some difficulty finding a barber that can do what I ask them to do. The gentleman that worked on me was named Jon and he did an amazing job. He did exactly what I asked him to do. I got the works which included a hot towel shave which was fantastic. I would strongly recommend anyone that is looking for a place to cut your hair to give this shop and specifically this man a try. read more

Well we found a great barbershop that we wish we had at home! Walk ins welcome! My hubby went in looking like the mad professor and came out looking GQ...ok not that good but really great haircut! $25 well spent! read more

Jose's Chop Shop - Walk ins welcome! - Barbers Near Me - Newport, Rhode Island

Took my 3.5 year old son here today. Had Jon. Very happy with his haircut and entire experience. John was very thorough, LISTENED AND followed exactly my request. He even checked in with me, such a breath of fresh air. Very respectful place, we will definitely be back for his next cut. Hope everyone gets the same experience that we had. Thanks Jon! read more

I brought my 5yr old in and Jose did a fantastic job! He was kind and patient and the shop was clean. My older son begged to go too because his brother came out looking so good. It is hard to get kids to go in for an appointment, much less to look forward to it. 5 stars. read more

I gotta give this guy a 5 star review! He cut my 14 month grandsons hair and the lil guy handled it like a champ. Jose was awesome with him. Being a retired hairstylist myself I know it can be a hit or miss when it come to young children. His dad wanted his son to have the male bonding experience hence I wasn't allowed to cut his hair. New generation , you take it personal! The shop itself is very clean and professional. He's always doing something to improve his shop. Jose and his staff are at the top of the game! read more

Summary: Come here for your cut. The professionalism here is quite impressive. Other shops put you in the chair, ask "what you want", and start cutting for a quicker customer turnover rate. But Jose (my barber) actually took the time to double check with me about the style of haircut I wanted. His level of knowledge about different styles of cut, hair, and techniques, was a testament to his seasoned experience as a barber, and his attention to detail during the entirety of the cut was beyond exceptional and could only be compared to that of Italian sculptor, Michelangelo. A standard haircut here will range from $20-23 (not including tip). The end results are easily worth 30-40 dollars. So it's super affordable too. While I haven't been cut by the other barbers that he employs, I imagine that they are of a similar caliber because he hired them. Don't let the ridiculous 1 star reviews drive you away. This place is awesome. Will be coming back for more cuts and will update my review accordingly. read more

Great cut ! Very professional. Using the appointment was super easy. Enjoyed the conversation made me feel like a local. The only negative thing was cash only but overall. Thank you. read more

The best on the island, look no further. I come here every time I visit Newport for work and it is like sitting with family. Family that you like. read more

Nothing special. I booked an 11 o clock and the barber showed up late and also double booked so I didn't get a cut until 11:35. He did my beard pretty good but other than that not bad but not great. read more

I am new to the area and needed to find a barber shop for the year that we'll live in Newport. I heard about Jose's Chop Shop from a neighbor and he HIGHLY recommended JCS. I made an appt on Booksy, with Tiffany, which was super easy. I have been back twice in the first month and will surely use this as my "go to" place. And Tiffany is an AWESOME barber, gave me countless recommendations for the local area, and just a really cool person!! Keep kicking ass JCS!! read more

Very clean very professional. Excellent for kids. The theme of the place is similar to 1950's car garage. The workbenches are converted from tool boxes and the barbers use compressed air to blow the hair off of you. Like any downtown business, parking is a little tight but because it's Newport you are safe to park a couple blocks over and walk. If you are looking for a place to get a 'fade' or a blowout this is the place to go. read more

I booked an appointment through booksy for 4:30 on a Tuesday, and the barber never showed up. The person working there offered to stay late to hook me up, but I didn't have the time to come back at 5:30. Very unprofessional place. read more

After living in Japan for three years and only having the barbers on the military base to choose from, I was extremely happy to find this spot! I brought my son with me and we were welcomed as walk-ins. Wait time was very short and we enjoyed the barber shop atmosphere. Jose cut my hair and Tiffany cut my son's hair. Both haircuts turned out great and the staff was amazing! I will be taking my 18 month old there shortly for his first hair cut as they cater to all ages. If you are looking for a family friendly barber shop, look no further than Jose's! read more

Jose's Chop Shop - Cut by Tiffany. - Barbers Near Me - Newport, Rhode Island

Good shop for mens haircut. 4(?) barbers working hard and polite. Good place. I will be back

Active duty military and I've been getting my haircut here for 3 months now. With the appointment system used through Booksy I can easily schedule my appointment and be out in 30 minutes. The shop is clean, the barbers are welcoming, the lighting is bright, and Jose's has a barber for every flavor of hair. I've seen lots of children here as well. When I leave, I'd take Jose's Chop Shop and it's barbers with me if I could. read more

Military friendly; close to the base; awesome discount. Well staffed; never a long wait; convenient ATM. Exceptional quality; friendly; professional. read more

Made an appointment through booksy the other day. I was in desperate need of a haircut and Jose did a great job. The place was clean, the equipment was clean, everyone masked up, and it felt as safe as you can make it. Most importantly Jose did a great job on my hair and the conversation around the whole shop was engaging and I enjoyed my time in the barbershop. It was a nice and refreshing experience...the way it used to be. So I highly recommend stopping in! read more

What an outstanding experience! Eric did a great job on my hair and even gave me some career advice in the process (prior Navy Sailor). The beer was a nice touch too. Come see these guys! They will take care of you! read more

We brought in our almost 2 year old for his first real barbershop haircut. He was scared, cried a lot and wasn't too cooperative, but Jose did an amazing job. He was patient, calm and talked to him through the whole thing. He even was able to get it done in about 15-20 minutes! Great job and even better service! read more

I'm a navy guy who wanted a better barber option than what we have on the base here in Newport. Took a chance on this place mainly just because it was close and got super lucky. I got a great haircut and really appreciated their customer service. Plus, their military price is impossible to beat. Highly, highly recommend. read more

I'm trying to make it a point to start reviewing every barbershop that I go to because in my opinion it's an art form that closely relates to function. I was reading some of the reviews for barbershops in the Newport area and found some good reviews for Jose's Barbershop. Not without reason the barber that did my hair did an excellent job and took his time even though the place was busy. I like the compressed air they used to blow off all the hair afterwords. Highly recommended place with a traditional barbershop vibe. read more

I discovered Jose's talents as a barber when I was in town for business. Now I make it a point to drive an hour to visit Jose for my cuts. He is a true barber. Wether it is a normal cut or the works including a shave, he is the best barber from Rhode Island to New York. The shop is a very friendly atmosphere and welcoming to everyone. The other barbers on staff are all talented and share the same barbershop values. I highly recommend a visit, you will not regret it. read more

I hit this spot whenever I'm in Newport. Just walked out with another clean cut this time from Brian. I got a Mid fade, starting skin tight, scissors on top and it and was clean, even, no missed spots. Excellent cut. read more

I got a haircut by Jose himself. Did a great job, took time to give a nice cut. There are some nice touches in the shop: a pneumatic air hose to the get trimmings off your head, and a bunch of monitors to watch a film. They take credit card and use square so your receipt gets emailed to you -- I know, not earth shattering but a lot of barbershops don't seem to do this for some reason. read more

Jose has cut my hair for many years. He is my favorite barber and he runs a great business. Although I've been out of town for awhile, whenever I am back in town I visit Jose's Chop Shop.
