Chip is a consummate professional, a piano technician and tuner for the kind of person who wants…read morethe best results possible from their instrument. I especially like that he's down to earth about the costs and benefits of the work he does: not everything you choose to do will make a big difference, but that depends on you, the customer, and determining with chip if it's important to you and if it's worth the cost. Do you want a piano tuned to 430 to match Schumann frequencies so it sounds more mellow, like the most beautiful of baroque instruments? Or maybe at 442 to push the sound a bit, make it more aggressive? We talked quite a bit about what I wanted from the instrument before he started. Then, and only then, did he start working. He's a listener first, the kind of customer service person you hope to meet and rarely do today: he wants to help you get what you want from your instrument, not what he thinks it should be. A piano is a part of the family, and it has it's own unique relationship with you, the owner. Race cars are tuned to match the racer, violins to match the player, guitars custom made to match the guitarist. Call chip if you want the best. Or if you just want whatever it takes to keep the thing upright for another year. He'll deliver the results you want at an affordable price.

PROS: Friendly staff and completes work when promised. CONS:…read moreDoes not know how to trouble-shoot/repair vintage stereo receivers NOTE: This review pertains to their ability to work on vintage stereo receivers only. I brought in two vintage stereo receivers for minor repairs. One had a switch issue and the other had a FM-related issue. Switch Issue: They could not repair the problem. They stated that a new switch was needed, but due to the age of the item, the switch was not available. I already knew that, which was why I wanted the switch repaired (i.e., disassembled and cleaned). Apparently, the technicians do not know how to do this. I've seen YOUTUBE videos that show you how to do this, but I don't have the tools to do it. FM Issue: They could not repair the problem. After replacing a part (that I paid for) that they said made the condition worse, they put the original part back in. Obviously, they identified the wrong component. Then, I was told that the entire tuner board would need to be replaced, but due to the age of the item, the board was no longer available. I already knew that, which was why I wanted them to trouble-shoot the board and replace the faulty components. When a repair shop tells you that you need to "replace the entire board," it means "we don't know how to figure out what is wrong." When I brought in both items, I was clearly told that the items may not be able to be repaired due to their age. I understand this. However, the problems were not that complicated to figure out with good trouble-shooting techniques, given the correct knowledge and equipment. Again, I've seen related YOUTUBE videos, but I don't have the equipment or technical expertise. Since neither problem was corrected, I have no other choice but to conclude that the technician's knowledge and abilities regarding vintage stereo receivers are extremely limited. Needless to say, I was disappointed. They should not even accept vintage stereo receivers for repair. I gave them 2 stars (instead of 1) ONLY because of the PROS listed at the beginning of this review.
