Hi folks...am still alive, but I wonder why. Have an update. Since Dr. Spaulding and the lousy radical prostatectomy in 2001, I found a urologist to help with the impotence-using androgel, which works well. With regard to the incontinence, he has implanted artificial urinary sphincters(aus) inside me, They only last about 3 or 4 years before the cuff around the urethra breaks, requiring replacement of the device. On the third installation, the urologist somehow tore my urethra, so now urine exits through my penis as well as thru the urethra tear, into the surrounding tissues, exiting thru the perineum suture area. What a mess. Now have to use a catheter for 3 weeks with a leg bag for urine collection. Can't do my work as a UPS delivery driver-could spill urine. If urethra doesn't heal, the aus must be removed, then 2 or 3 more weeks with the catheter and urine bag. Then, if not healed, more surgery to repair the tear. Also, pads have been a constant companion through all of this. Spaulding could live handsomely off of commissions Depends/Kimberly Clarke may pay him. Basically, even though there have been attempts to repair me, Spaulding's work RUINED me..at 44 years of age. As much as I try to maintain a normal life, and use other drs. and new techniques, the urological mess that Spaulding left continues to produce difficulties that make it difficult to keep one's composure-physically and mentally. It really was-and is-true----Spaulding and his work immersed me into the medical system for the rest of my life..with no guarantee of ever getting back to normal .Remember, Spaulding said at the outset he was the best, and I being young, strong and healthy wouldn't have any complications. So, dear reader, beware. Results in my case have been disastrous. I am "lost in space", medically speaking. Hopefully, your outcome will be different. But, do you dare take a chance? If you will excuse me, I must now leave to take some more meds. and empty my urine collection leg bag in preparation to change to the full-size bedtime urine collection bag with the extra tubing. Good night. read more
