Before you think about seeing Joseph Raviv, please read this. Imagine having a doctor tell you that they could fix your problem, then making it ten times worse, and not knowing how to fix what they did. You would probably feel enraged.
That is exactly my experience with this ET looking, monkey named Joseph Raviv, Northshore Health System, Division of Otolaryngology. I went to see Joseph Raviv in 2014 for problems breathing out of my nose. Looking back on things, I realize that most of my issues with breathing could have been resolved with antibiotics, and refraining from afrin use. I didn't know this at the time though. Anyways, upon walking into Raviv office, he immediately offered me sinus surgery, and portrayed it to be the solution to my problem.
Out of naivety, I accepted the procedure. I also thought that I was only going to have endoscopic sinus surgery, because ,this was the procedure that Dr. Raviv discussed with me. Little did I know, I would also suffer an unnecessary intervention on my septum.
When I was sedated, Dr. Raviv performed a septoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery. The septoplasty (realignment of the septum) however, made my situation much worse. My face is naturally asymmetrically. The left side of my face is pushed further inward then the right. My nasal airway passages therefore also developed asymmetrically. Consequently, my septum developed asymmetrically to be "in-line" with my naturally deviated nasal airway passages.
Dr. Raviv was negligent, and never considered this, when viewing the CT scan of my sinuses. He just assumed that my internal nasal structure was the same as everyone else's, and that the septoplasty would help me. By performing the septoplasty, he severely narrowed my airway on the right side of my nose, and made my breathing much worse then it ever was before. For the people reading this, I have included pictures from my CT scans, before and after my surgery with doctor Raviv. As you can see from all the images, it is clear that my airway was much more open before the surgery.
In the months after the surgery, I visited Raviv multiples times, and told him that my breathing was much worse, and I suspected it was because of a problem with my septum. And everyone time I brought this up, he dismissively laughed at me, and tried to attribute my problems to something else, like allergies. I told him that I had been tested for allergies just the other year, and it couldn't be because of that. However, he still dismissed my theory. Also, being the money grubbing scumbag that he is, he charged me an additional $500 for each of these post surgery follow-ups. He charged me $500 to tell me that I might have allergies.
I stopped seeing him in early 2015. Eventually, in early 2017, I got a second opinion from a doctor, that viewed my CT scans, pre and post surgery. This doctor did confirm my theory, and said that my nasal airway looked much more open before my surgery with Dr. Raviv. When I called Dr. Raviv, and told him this, Raviv told me too much time had passed, and he couldn't perform the revision septoplasty. Without going into detail, you can imagine how angry I felt from hearing that.
Since my surgery with Raviv, I also had several additional surgeries to help me breathe better. I had vestibular stenosis (bracing collapsing nasal valves) and turbinate reduction. Yet this did nothing to help me breath better.
Joseph Raviv ruined my life. I cannot breathe out of my nose, and because of that I'm not sleeping right, and I'm exhausted all day, and it's not something I can get away from. I have lost jobs and friends because of this, and I am not able to pursue some of the career goals that I wanted to when I was younger. The only reason I can't take out a lawsuit against Dr. Raviv is because my statute of limitations for medical malpractice has expired, and I am no longer eligible to file one. Therefore, I am writing this review to (a) expose what this arrogant scumbag did to me, and (b) to dissuade anyone else from ever seeing him as a patient. read more
