Long over due review. Many thanks to stylist James Staley. I heard through friend in the entertainment field to consider Mr Staley at Joseph Lamar Salon in Burbank, and am I glad I did. Twelve countries and three months later, the bright blue and pink streaks set in peek-a-boo with balayage highlights really helped my hair transform between professional workplace to european vacation that needed tucking up from time to time when in conservative towns. Also got the Brazilian hair straightening with a fun layered cut that still lets me bun my hair into a ball with a french twist (important since on field often and must use pencil to set sometimes). I would have posted sooner but two loved ones hit the great beyond, and while in funeral service, all I could think of was how deserving I was for a spa day, and when I'd get back to town, I'd reserve a slot because hair treatment also seems to come with my kind of talk therapy! We all know we tell our secrets and experiences with stylists, right, well, James Staley has perfect ears and the extra bonus is perfect hair that helps boost up esteem and readies for a world to be conquered. read more

I used to see Kathy here, but she triple booked during my appointment, left me at the shampoo bowl, and couldn't even do my haircut (after the color) because she said she was busy with the other people. (I had an appointment for both a cut and color.) She sent another person to rinse my hair out and then left me in back with my hair in a towel... During my appointment time. Because she was with TWO other customers. I explained that I had out of town guests coming in the next day and wanted to finish my appointment and she told me to try and schedule my SECOND appointment before they came into town... the next day? I am beyond mortified. I saw so many good reviews and my stylist canceled my hair appointment last minute. I was off to my girlfriends wedding and I desperately looked everywhere for a Saturday appointment. I found Joseph Lamar, walked in and was greeted by the owner. She sent me off with one of the stylists. Everything was going normal, small chit chat, friendly when all of a sudden I started to notice that this stylists technique was off. After she was blow drying she kept taking her hair straightener to my hair. Soon my hair started flattening out and gone was the "blow dry volume" I came here for. I might have well done that myself. I told her I was unhappy and she just kept telling me that "it was my haircut." Twice in the last month I got my hair done, at Fetiche in Glendale AND Dylan Keith in Burbank and NO ONE said my hair cut was messed up. My hair was a mess and I told her I was so unhappy, she was like "what do you want me to do?" Uhm...fix it. Well more and more hair straightening and I was about to burst in tears. She called the owner over, who had her own customer herself. She rushed to try to fix the mistake and tried to save my hair. Unfortunately it didn't last. She could fix what the other stylist did. I spent additional time there and ran late to the wedding. One hour later and $30 later my hair was a mess! The other owner apologized as she swiped my credit card, yeah....thanks but your "sorry" didn't give my time back and resulted in me having had that flattened out one hour later. I've had hair blowouts last a whole day after, this one didn't. NEVER will I recommend anyone to come here. To make matters worse, the owner was giving the stylist a tutorial on how to do it. Greetings YELPERS! I want to start this review by saying that this only the second review I have ever done after being on YELP for quite sometime. I say this because I want to communicate the fact that I am not one to just write a review for the sake of it. Me taking the time and putting my name to a review is because I am 100% plus genuine and sincere about it. So now that I have that out of the way let me try to find enough positive words to describe Joseph Lamar Salon and my experience since I have discovered them. If you want to take a minute to click on my pics you will see that I have naturally curly hair and as you can see in my pic above it is blown out and fresh! I took this pic in the parking lot of Joseph Lamar after my first visit. A picture speaks louder than a thousand words right? I am 55 years old and I have been going to the same woman for all my hair care needs since I was 20 years old. Literally 35 years and NO ONE other than her has touched my hair until this past year beginning in the Summer of 2017. Well I knew that she wants to retire in 2018 and so I had to begin to try and find someone who could do my hair the way I like it done. Please know that I am very fussy and very particular about my hair. I decided to use Groupon to try different places without having to spend a fortune. I found lots of deals, some were like 3 Blowouts for $50 or 1 for $20 stuff like that, all kinds of high end salons, and small two person shops and Blow Bars etc. After trying so many and being terribly disappointed. I mean a couple were so bad that I had 2 more Blow Outs to use on my Groupon and I did not even bother to go back it was BAD OUT THERE! Then just as I was about to give up I found Viktoria at Joseph Lamar and OMG!!!!! I feel like I have won the Hair Salon Lottery Jackpot!! Viktoria is young enough to be my daughter and she has the hands and skill set of a seasoned hair dresser. I believe she could do my hair blindfolded that's how amazing she is! I thought to myself she is the one, she is young and talented and she is perfect and she will outlive me so this is it. Well then I needed an appointment and Viktoria was out and I took a chance with another stylist named Penny and BOOM! She did a FANTASTIC job on my hair I mean flawless. I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasn't dreaming. Did i actually find two amazingly talented hair stylist in the same salon could it be? Well I am thrilled to tell you it is true and I could not be more grateful and more relieved and happy that I found my way to Joseph Lamar Salon. Lastly I want to add that the Salon itself is such a lovely place to get your hair done. It is clean and bright and welcoming, all the staff are so friendly and helpful and really mean it when they say good morning. It is decorated so nice and the ambiance is perfect. They have coffee and pastries, its roomy and again its oh so CLEAN! If your anything like me and are picky about your hair care and you appreciate good quality talented and gifted hair stylist and a salon that reflects owner pride and that really appreciates your business. Last week, I called for a last minute blow-dry/style appointment. The great news was that I got an appointment right away. I told the receptionist that I had shoulder-length hair and asked how much it would be. She said $30 with Rachel. I went, spent an hour there getting the blow-out with Rachel - who was very nice by the way. She took a little long, and my blow-out didn't hold. It went flat the next day, but still, Rachel was very nice. She didn't pry, ask too many questions, and was generally professional. If my hair didn't go flat so soon, I would have no problems going back to see her... if she were working somewhere else. The hairstylist in the station next to us, was a bit nosy and asked me a slew of personal questions with his client in the chair and someone assisting him in-between us. This made me feel uneasy. (Is this standard? If it is, it's inappropriate. I didn't come to this salon to answer a bunch of questions about myself to strangers before I even got to know my own stylist.) When I went to go pay, I was charged $45. I asked the receptionist why it was $45 when I asked her over the phone how much it would be and she quoted me $30. Her response was, "Sometimes it's more." No, really. That was her response. Not only is that what she said, but the way she said it was accusatory, as if I was the one who did something wrong. I've managed two salons before and if I were the one handling this issue, I would have honored the price I quoted, and informed the customer that next time - $45 is the going rate. Moreover, perhaps the receptionist shouldn't quote prices! If she is unsure, she should have the customer come in and get a quote from the stylist. Sure, it's $15 more. So I paid the $45. I even tipped 20%. But a $15 difference is a 33% upcharge. And do I *feel* like I got a $45 blow-dry/style? No. Not at all. I actually kind of felt like I went to a hair styling school instead of an established salon. Betwen the receptionist and the nosy stylist - I think the salon in general would do well with a refresher course on customer service. read more

I've been getting lash extensions by Elisa and she is a GEM! My lashes were unhealthy and damaged by another lash tech, so she started me on lash rehab by putting me on a lash serum. She brought my natural lashes back and then some! Once my lashes grew amazingly, she added lash extensions which made me literally look 10 years younger. No joke! My husband LOVES my new look. Lashes really do make you look more youthful & refreshed. Elisa is the best! She actually cares about my lashes and educates me on extensions. A lash nerd, haha. Her service room is adorable and SPOTLESS which I for one appreciate. OH and her lash extensions are top quality (no shiny extensions like the ones I see on some people in public). I had a great experience with stylist Lynn, she not only did a great job cutting and styling my hair, but added some cool highlights. She also did a great job on hair and makeup for my friends wedding. She made the bride gorgeous and the bridesmaid looked great too. She always has a special going. This is my go to salon! My girl Victoria has been doing for my hair for a few years now and we have done everything from natural to bright colors. She is able to do it all. We have gone from long to short and back again. If you watch her hair progress, she changes her color every few months and that's always fun to see. I like having a hair stylist who likes to try out new things and see her creativity come to life. Victoria also does make up, everything from weddings to Halloween parties. She does a fantastic job with making girls look beautiful for prom or their big day. But my favorite is what Victoria does for special effects. She does everything from super heros to zombies and back. Last year I was doing wonder woman and my friend was a zombie and my daughter was a girl from Monster. We all looked incredible. This year I am going to be poison Ivy and not only will she will be helping with all of my Halloween parties but she will be doing my make up for all my comicon events through out the next year.
