My family has been going to Dr. Shachar for maybe 15-20 years. She was my father's doctor-he liked…read moreher very much- and when I suggested we try to find a more practical office for a wheelchair as my dad was a new amputee he absolutely refused. I personally left Dr. Shachar because I found a doctor who I used in the past that I was happy with and re-established a relationship with. My father passed and Dr. Shachar called and offered her condolences. Dr. Shachar is not the issue here. At least not for me. Our family has not had any bad medicine from her. Her treatment plans are reasonable. She is kind. The problem is her staff. And I am only writing this negative review in the hopes that this kind and great doctor will consider the way her staff treats her patients. Her staff has always been rude, condescending, haughty. As I mentioned, my mother and father have been going to her for over a decade, and after so much time of a doctor patient relationship you would think there would be some kind of recognition of that fact. I work in an emergency animal hospital. I am a senior receptionist. I have dealt with my clients from the day they got there kitten or puppy to the day where we sadly have to choose peace over a poor quality of life. Now if one day my client calls me to tell me his poodles breath is getting stinkier by the day, it's been going on for awhile, and needs to be seen, I don't tell the 80 year old man he had an appointment, that was scheduled a while ago and well obviously it got cancelled. My soonest is on this day. He can't make it. Okay, let's try this date. He can't make it. 1 more try, he can't do it. Frustrating for parties. I get it. If the older man's son says if he can find another provider for care would the records get there quickly? I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT TELL THE PERSON ON THE PHONE OH YES DEFINITELY. SO SHE ISN'T GOING TO BE A PATIENT HERE ANYMORE CORRECT? This receptionist sounded like she was so happy to be rid of my mom as a patient. A long time patient. For my regular long time clients there's a certain bond we have. I have had to walk my clients, most of them I call friends, off the ledge about there dogs diarrhea not killing them and we'll get them in. I will find the owner of the practice or her 2 associate vets and ask them, hey, can one of you squeeze so and so in on your earliest convenience. I would do that for the 80 year old man as well. And these are pets (which many call there fur babies). Dr. Shachars staff is just very quick to shoo away her human patients of 15 years at the drop of a hat. Lucky for these rude insensitive mouthy employees they can act however they want over the phone. A lot of people don't appreciate the poor treatment of their elderly relatives. My mother has verbally told Dr. Shachar during an appointment how her front staff treated her badly. I do not know if Dr. Shachar does not care or just condones the poor treatment of her patients. I would like to find my mother a new PCP, but like my father, my mother said no, she really likes Dr. Shachar and that's her doctor and not mine. In the past years I have also been treated poorly and spoken down to by these young ladies and have had to refrain from becoming very ghetto. Only for the sake of my parents and Dr. Shachar do I keep my mouth shut. But I can handle myself. My poor deceased father and 80 year old mother cannot. I have just my mama left and Dr. Shachar, C'mon, you have always been there for our family. Please do not allow your front staff girls to be so rude. This in no way reflects my mother's feelings.

My letter to the board shall serve as my review [edited slightly for privacy]. To the California Board of Medicine, Hello, and I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Dr. S, and I write to you with deep concern about the practices of the office of Dr. Sharna Shachar, LICENSE NUMBER: A 51402. Practice site: Fax: 619-409-9905, 525 H St, Chula Vista, CA 91910. I had been a patient of this practice for several years after I moved to California in 2015. Dr. Shachar and I had a therapeutic relationship - I did not skip appointments, did not request any type of controlled substances from her, took all prescribed medications, and paid all bills on time. I had a zero-dollar balance on all my accounts with her. On October 1, 2020, my back "went out" on me for the first time. I couldn't stand up and my husband had to pick me up off the floor. I'd never had back problems before, and this was a very scary situation. I got into bed that day and slept all day. When I woke up on October 2, 2020, I could walk again, though with pain and a limp, and I still felt scared of what might be wrong with my body. I'd just transferred to my husband's insurance though -insurance company name- due to a job change on 10/1/2020, so I was now covered under his policy, though I didn't have an ID card yet [proof of coverage during 10/2020 attached.] On 10/7/2020, I was still in pain, so I called to make a doctor's appointment with my long-standing physician. The receptionist, Karla, informed me that she couldn't see me on the Blue Shield website. I explained the situation - I'd just transferred health insurance to a new plan. She set up an appointment for me to see the physician on 10/12/20. On 10/9/20, Karla called me back to tell me my appointment on 10/12/20 was being cancelled because she couldn't find my name on my husband's insurance coverage through the insurance company site. I told her that I'd called my insurance, and while I was covered during 10/2020, the website hadn't yet been updated. She told me that "It's illegal to not have insurance!" I offered to pay in cash and submit for reimbursement to my insurance company, reminding Karla and Dr. Shachar that I have no outstanding balances and have never owed them a cent. Karla refused, again told me it's illegal not to have insurance, and cancelled my 10/12/20 appointment [screenshot attached]. I started crying because I was in pain and I felt shamed and scared, and I wanted to see MY trusted doctor. Karla told me "If it's that bad, just go to the ER!" I would like to remind the board that 10/2020 was during the height of the pandemic. Referring a patient with a NON-EMERGENCY problem to the ER during a pandemic with high mortality rates is the height of unprofessionalism and could have caused me great harm had I taken this physician's medical advice to go to a ER during a pandemic before vaccinations were widely available to the public. Due to the behavior of Dr. Shachar's office, a patient, whom your Board has a responsibility to protect, delayed care for 6 months while locating a new physician to review her symptoms. Luckily, I found a great physician in Dr. Allen Richburg, who diagnosed me with sacroiliac joint pain and assigned me to physical therapy - this is APPROPRIATE medical care. However, delaying 6 months while finding a new physician also led to additional pain and longer recovery time for me. I would like for the Board to investigate the office practices of this clinic. Being a healthcare professional myself, I understand that it is challenging to monitor so many prescribers, so I very much appreciate your due diligence on this matter. Protecting the public is a passion of mine having worked within the Board of Pharmacy, and I respect so much the work you do. Dr. S

My Scripps PCP recommended Sharp, and his advice has been golden in the past. Upon acceptance of my application, Sharps sent me their gold-hued ID card and a passel of information of coverages and services. That helped ease my nerves about obtaining new health coverage. I immediately signed up on their patient portal, but was unable to actually use it until my insurance kicked in on Jan 1. I signed up for the Chula Vista Internal Medicine location at 754 Medical Center Court. So far, so good with Sharp. I was able to see a doctor within three days of requesting a visit. No, it wasn't the doctor I signed up for (Dr. David Hansen, based upon his outstanding Yelp reviews, of course), but that's OK. It was my first visit, and I submitted lot of information and received a vital signs examination. I received two referrals which I requested, and was authorized for a full blood panel. The doctor I saw was Dr. Marco Martinez. He was very pleasant and even patient while collecting my information and entering it into the health care system records. He suggested a very convenient location for the blood draw. I was concerned about transferring my prescriptions, but was informed that I need not change my prescription mail order service. Yay ! The Sharp patient portal does not seem nearly as intuitive as the Scripps portal. This perhaps because I learned how to navigate the Scripps portal, and am still learning the Sharps. That said, the two referrals I was granted do not show up on my portal page. I called the doctor's office, but they had no answer, and promised to query the doctor via message. Not yet resolved. Every interaction so far with Sharp staff personally or telephonically has been quite pleasant, and certainly on a par with Scripps. What the future holds will be discussed in Updates.

I'm very pleased to have them as my primary care providers and really appreciate that I can continue care with either three as there there's continuity regardless of who has availability. Excellent medical practice, highly recommend!
