If you wish to be treated like a very literal animal, this really is the doctor to consult. I may actually lose my hearing because of Habis's negligence, and his flagrant dismissal of immediate medical concerns is beyond disturbing. Guaranteed to leave you as physically ill as you may have been before you set foot in his practice, and in more ways than one. Visited him for an upcoming trip to Africa. Discouraged typhoid vax (though it is clearly recommended by CDC and WHO) and, meanwhile, prescribed anti-malarials despite the fact that there is no malaria in the country I was visiting. Another time, I phoned with a positive Covid test (I'm 55+) and was told that because my symptoms (mild cough) were mild, he wouldn't prescribe Paxlovid - despite PSAs all over TV from State of CA touring Paxlovid and "call your doctor if you're over 50 and test positive". The office itself has a lot of turnover - have had two NPs leave in the last three years. Would not recommend. read more

've been with Prima Medical San Rafael for around 7 years and the staff have always been friendly, I've only seen Dr. Habis maybe 10 times since then. I haven't had anything to complain about until now. I tested positive for the COVID virus Friday morning. I immediately called after taking the test around 11:30am to try and set up an appointment or speak with my doctor or N.A.. I was told they were busy and would call me back. So I waited patiently till 4:30pm and decided to call back and remind them about me. The woman rudely snapped saying my doctor has appointments and will call me after. Low and behold it's 6:30 and nothing. At this point I have excruciating headache, horrible chills, and a bad cough. Not knowing too much about Covid I was scared and had no idea what to do.When I called back I was finally able to speak to an after hours nurse I guess since the office was now closed. I was told they were closed on Monday and someone would reach out to me Today(Tuesday) which is 5 days after I first tested positive for COVID. Well I waited till 2:00pm and no one called so I decided to call and see what why they have yet reach out to me. The woman acted like contracting the COVID virus was no big deal and asked if I'd like to set up an appointment but they probably wouldn't be able to get me in for a few days. At this point I just can't believe how difficult it's been to talk to my doctor or a N.P. Or someone that can give me advice on how to manage my symptoms, basic info on the virus, what to do to be able to return back to work and what the guidelines are. Maybe a 5 minute conversation at most to ease someone who has no real knowledge on COVID besides that its very contagious and is killing people. I tried to express that but again she just asked if she could set up an appointment for me..... So I got said no but can you please ask if my doctor or N..P. Can call and speak with me when they have 5 minutes and left my phone number. It's very disappointing that my own P.C.P. Or any N.P. At least In that office couldn't be there for me and take 2 minutes to talk with me during my time contracting a very serious virus that's killed hundreds of thousands of people. My mother passed away January 6th .. and for 5 years was told she had allergies and asthma , we later found out through 2 Kaiser Dr's that my moms was diagnosed by Dr Habis in 2015with COPD snd chronic hear failure , yet she was medicated for asthma and allergies , my mother suffered the last 5 years . My sister and I went to see Dr Habis 2 times to address our concerns about our mothers edema and breathing , he dismissed us . Unfortunately we did not know for 5 years that our mom had COPD. She could have had a better quality of life . We found out about her COPD while she was in emergency room at Kaiser , she died 4 months later . Please don't go to this Dr ever ! I never would want this to happen to your loved one. read more

BE ADVISED! This is only my experience and may not be what others have encountered with this practice. In January 2019 I was charged $867.00 for a first time office visit with Dr Joseph Habis. I scheduled this visit strictly for a ($10) prescription refill as my former Primary Care physician had retired and I was in need of a quick refill. At no time was I advised that a first time visit charge would be incurred, or that the total office visit of ~10 minutes with Dr Habis would be $867. Absolutely ludicrous and shameless. The reason I am writing about this now (Oct 2019) is I had called the billing department and left messages 9 times these past 9 mos, and just today spoke with a billing clerk (Kelsey in Dallas) about this first time visit charge. As she described the first time charge, she also was unable to delineate the difference in cost between a first time charge and an existing patient office visit charge. If you schedule an appointment with this doctor (and perhaps this practice/UCSF Physicians Group/Prima), please remember to ask what the visit will cost ahead of time. read more

I had a very helpful visit at Dr. Habis' office today. The consult with Andrea Stariha, nurse practitioner, was a reassuringly productive exchange of medical information. Andrea took a proper throat culture, and clarified the reasons that ruling out of strep is in medical practice given far greater importance than the ruling out of other pathogens. I believe though, that, specifically for autoimmune patients, even non-strep pathogens need to be specifically identified and recorded in the patient's record, to inform diagnostic and treatment decisions in future where an infection will have caused an autoimmune flare, as well as in the more distant future when diagnostic and treatment will be better informed by future relevant studies, Also, I gratefully note that Dr. Habis responded quickly and helpfully to messages of concern that I sent to him on the UCSF MyChart. read more

All about the money. 5 minute appointments, 2 hour waiting on hold. Rushed out the door if you can get in. Doesn't care about his patients, doesn't follow up when promised. His practice is too big and he can't handle the volume. That results in everyones health being compromised! Worst doctor I have ever experienced. No oversight by Marin Health is dangerous for all patients! Moving back to Kaiser. I want quality care, not a doctor who wants an ATM machine. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Habis for several years and I'm inclined to agree with others - he is detached, disinterested, careless about medication and doesn't put any effort into resolving issues. I'm not sure if something happened to him, as he used to be pretty good 3-4 years ago, but I've gone back and the best word I can use to describe him is "dismissive." I have relatively minor issues compared to others, but some have been persistent - and Dr. Habis simply won't work with me. I've voiced stronger and stronger opinions to him and he continually downplays my concerns, ignores my observations and makes trite and meaningless recommendations that don't help. As others have mentioned he pulled me off of one medication and put me on another due to a supposed interaction. I look it up, ask another doctor about it, and the other doctor laughs - there isn't even a remote chance of an interaction. He has no idea what he's talking about or simply doesn't give a shit anymore. Either way I've had enough - I'm going to find a new doctor. read more

Don't get me wrong, I'm not the average patient. I've got a host of Autoimmune disorders that make my needs more than than normal. However, unless you are OK with just being a number and having less than 5 minutes with your doctor, then skip your appointment with Dr. Habis. When I was having bad symptoms with a medication, he took me off it and put me on another. He did so however without warning me of any possible withdrawl symptoms I might have. When these symptoms appeared immediately, I was also not called back by the doctor himself, but a nurse who was laughing when I answered the phone. On top of that, he had about 2 words of advice for my precarious situation. Only advantages of this place are easy to book appointments, otherwise, if you want more from a doctor than a deli counter, find somewhere else. read more

WARNING - Getting reception staff to fill prescriptions correctly, if at all requires constant babysitting and repeat calls. I switched to Dr Habis in December after Dr El Ghoneimy left the same Civic Center practice. I needed my usual 3 months supply for the price of 2 prescription filled and spoke to the receptionist who promised to have Dr Habis fax my prescription to Medco in early December.... nothing happened. I am really busy at work so finding time to call is a real challenge. I called again in late December - again I was promised the prescription would be faxed... nothing. Medco called me to say they couldn't fill my prescription. Finally I called exasperated in mid January and the receptionist sent off for the 3 month supply...and I received a 2 month supply. Dr Habis had indicated a lower dosage and automatically instead of getting 3 months I received 2 months supply. Now my refills are used up until March, Medco refuses to refund so thanks to Dr Habis wonderful reception team: - it has taken 6 weeks and 3 calls (and lots of time on hold) to get a simple prescription filled - when the prescription finally did come it was wrong - I was unable to benefit from the 3 months for the price of 2 supply, the entire point of going to the inconvenience of using Medco I haven't meet Dr Habis, he himself may be very good, but he needs to ensure his reception staff is much more customer oriented. Heads would roll at my company if we gave similar service. read more

I had the same experience as Oscar. The reception system for this practice is either unable or uninterested in applying any form of triage to patients. I came back from India with what was eventually diagnosed as food poisoning, which I'd had for three days before I called the surgery. I was *really* sick by this time. I was told the next appointment was in 2 days time. "Could I talk to a doctor about my symptoms?" "No! You have to make an appointment". "Does the doctor keep some time in the day for urgent appointments?" "No! You have to make an appointment". They didn't even suggest where else I could go for faster treatment. In fairness to Habis, on a previous visit (my only other visit - and for something routine) he seemed competent enough. That's why I'm giving 2 stars. For the reception treatment alone, it would be one star. read more

Id write a better review but.. the DR is never there. I am always dealing with a nurse or physician assistant and the referrals are always hard to manage - they never follow up their prescriptions with approvals for Brand etc. I get charged $400 for any visit to the office.. seriously.. if you are on cash or have a high deductible plan this office is not for you. I use them for prescription access primarily and I have to go to office every time. I'm broke from front office billing. read more

I went with my brother to see him after he gave my brother an appt for cataract surgery so far in the future that it was like saying, go ahead and lose your job, we don't care. When repeatedly asked to move it up (it's a 10-minute op) he refused, without explanation. How can a doctor with these sort of reviews still be in practice? Dr. Habis is one of the most uneducated and incompetent "professional" person I have ever dealt with. I graduated from one of the most recognized European medical universities in Europe. I practiced there as a general physician for several years. Unfortunately I wasn't able to continue my career in US for other reasons. In accordance to my experience from back there and dealing with Mr. Habis he should be displaced from the profession due to his overall lack of experience, lack of the medical knowledge, lack of empathy, and due to the way how he abuses the medical system. He charged me (my insurance company) $800 for a visit which last 10 minutes and providing me with recommendations I actually recommend to him. He usually charges $400 for online meetings lasting 10 minutes resulting with "hard to understand opinions". In several cases and according to his diagnoses/recommendations my health might be exposed to serious danger. Am ready to start legal action about him. read more

Well, I hate to add to the negative reviews too. Saw Dr. Habis for a physical on Fri. 5/19/17 at 10:00 a.m. . I told him during the appointment that I thought I was getting a bladder infection. He said nothing. Then, when he said I needed to go to a lab to get blood drawn and urine test fasting, I asked if he wanted me to get a urine test to test for a bladder infection. He said no, do all the tests together. Then, he was off. He absolutely ignored me about the bladder infection. By 1:00 p.m. that same day I was in so much pain and could not urinate I went to the ER. Confirmed I had a bladder infection. Wow, I gave him 2 times to do something about it. He ignored me both times. Changing primary care doctors...he obviously does not listen. Sorry but dumping you Dr. Habis. You suck! read more

I used to love this office but in the past 3 years it has gone down hill. Almost impossible to get them to call you back, call for an appointment and you are usually the 12th one on hold, need a prescription refill and they never call you or the pharmacy back - even for life saving prescriptions. I wish i could give them a negative rating. read more

Not only did I wait for 90 minutes but when I told a nurse that I had another appointment, Dr Habis walked by and said that I could reschedule....! Dr. Habis and his whole staff, from front-office, to fellow Physicians, are very Competent, Progressive, and Personable. For the past 6 years, my daughter and I will not go anywhere else because of the prompt and fair service we always receive at Prima Medical, mainly by Dr. Habis, Dr. Lohtia (excellent Pediatrician!), and the front-office staff! Best way to describe Prima Medical is that everyone there is ultra-smart, keeps up on everything in their industry, yet they have that 'Marin' down-to-earth humbleness that they want to know more about you and what's going on with YOUR life and your health above all else. The (only 2) luke-warm reviews in here represent someone who is either always 'a glass-half-empty' kind of person, or was having a bad day no matter what, or an excagerator (or, of course, all of the above)... I've called Prima Medical (even the answering service) COUNTLESS times, even on weekends or at 2am, and I was ALWAYS consulted promptly over the phone, and most of the time even got a prescription called-in (for antibiotics, etc.) by the doctor-on-call until I was able to come in for a follow-up. They have also squeezed me (and especially my daughter) in to see the doctor on the same day on plenty of occasions. You can't go wrong going to Prima Medical Care for your 1st-Line Medical Needs. read more

i was delighted to be in and out of the doctors office within 20 mins today. this included the time it took for me to pee into a cup at which point they checked the sample for bacterial goodness. at the time of prescribing medication, Dr. Habis typed away in his ultra modern and somewhat sci-fi laptop, asked me what pharmacy i use and viola! the prescription is electronically sent to the phamacy and awaiting my arrival for pick-up. read more

Dr Habis saved my life. I saw him because he was available same day and he is now my primary care physician. I had some symptoms and another dr ignored them. I had the symptoms again and made an appt with Dr Habis. He sent me for a test (even tho I didn't have symptoms currently) and within hours I got a call to get to Emergency right away. So began a week stay at the hospital due to a life threatening condition. If he had ignored my symptoms too...I wouldn't be here writing this! My gratitude is endless. I have seen Dr Habis on a regular basis since and am always happy with how he cares and how he listens and responds to my complex set of conditions. The woman at the front desk and Tina who checks you out are both stars! Like others I have had some problems with the phone staff in the past, but hopefully that is improving. read more

What a waste of my time! Dr H asked why I came. I gave a 5 minute thumbnail of the past year with 2 heart attacks, 2 surgeries, a 3rd on the way, multiple hospitalizations. My husband asked if he wanted to take on my care. He said it was a complicated situation but he likes a challenge. He took the records of my recent hospitalization to copy. He returned to tell me I can pick up my records at the desk and dismissed me! He asked no further questions. I was flabbergasted. He thought this was an appropriate "get acquainted" session. He certainly got me in and out very fast, if that is what you need and want. read more

(Joseph Habis MD) The Terra Linda Office Prima Medical Group is a bad Medical group in my opinion. Never did I experience such treatment from other Doctor's offices. For example, I had a persisting fever, sore throat, and body aches; on the fifth day of my illness, I decided to call the doctor because my symptoms did not subside. (9:05 am) After being on hold several times, I was finally able to talk to the receptionist. I described my symptoms to her, and she puts me on hold once again. When she came back on the phone, she told me the Doctor could see me the next day at 11:00 am. With my patience running short, I ask if she had talked to the Doctor about my symptoms, and she replied, no. So, I mentioned that most Doctor offices are able to see a patient with such symptoms the same day. She went on to say the Doctor was double booked, and she was trying to squeeze me in the calendar and all the other Doctors in the group where also double booked. So, here I was with a receptions providing triage. I also want to say, this is the third time this has happened to me at this Doctor's office. I am switching Doctor's today. read more

I like to give everyone a chance so though I was not totally impressed with Dr. Habis the first 3 times I went, he didn't really do anything really wrong either. I could tell he was just in a hurry and not listening, I was just another number. I didn't have a laundry list of complaints either just one. When I complained about the pain he just told me to stretch, not to come back and tell him how I feel in a week or a month or take this or that. Well come to find out I had a real condition that if detected early might have made a real difference in the care I now have to endure. Not to mention the pain. Needless to say I have moved on. The lady at the front desk of my new Dr. jokingly said " wow another Habis patient, he's making us rich" LOL P.S. would it kill your staff to smile when checking in, once in a while I mean I know it's not the Four Seasons but a pleasant staff goes a long way. read more

Unfortunately, I have another bad review for Dr. Habis. My 25 yr old son saw him for a pre-op History and Physical for orthopedic surgery. My son was born with a chromosomal abnormality and has had multiple medical issues since birth. Dr. Habis, in this pre-op check up, never gave my son a questionnaire about medical problems or past surgeries, nor did he ask him about his medical history. He checked his vital signs and listened to his lungs, ordered lab work, and that was it! Terrible, terrible Dr!! Negligent beyond words!! I would like to give zero stars, but yelp makes you give at least one star. read more

Dr Habis was referred to me by a friend of mine who is a Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Marin General. His recommendation included his opinion that Dr Habis "is a smart guy". Since my friend is one of the smartest people I know I considered this extremely high praise. I have been a patient for 6 years now and I must say that I am very happy and my friend was absolutely right about Dr. Habis being really smart.. The office is very modern and runs smooth as silk. It is a busy office and can be hard to schedule an emergency appointment but I believe that speaks to the high quality of care offered there. read more

Dr. Habis has seen my 88-year old father for about 4 years now and has always been so kind, thorough and patient with him. We are extremely pleased with him, the facilities and all of his staff. A doctor is even available to speak with on the weekends and after hours. I am so surprised at some of the other comments- my father can be trying and difficult and Dr. Habis is a gem with him. I know we are extremely fortunate to have him providing my father's care. read more

I was unable to schedule with my regular doc, however he was available. He was on time, able to test and diagnosis me quickly, and even had samples of medicines to give for free, saving me a trip to pharmacy while I was feeling yucky. read more
