What a shame. After seeing the rave reviews I gave Jook Sing a couple times to get it together. This last time was the final straw. Everything they serve out of there is overly salty, wayyy salty. The cucumber salad was premade and soggy and sloppy. The other fish sauce dressing salad had overly ripened tomato's which was off putting. Now the cocktails were the saving grace because that lychee martini was the saving grace, I'll have those all day. That's all I have to say about this place, I have given them too much of my time already, they really need to step it up because whatever that food was, it's not for human consumption. read more

Hidden gem right outside river west across from Eckhart park over in west town. Came here with some friends, sat at the bar and got some great drinks and food! I got the Marzen lager which was light and smooth perfect for the hot day. To eat I got the drunken noodles and a box of popcorn chicken that was only 5 dollars! For five bucks it was a great amount of chicken and with the sauce was surprisingly the star of the show! Our bartender was also super nice and explained the menu in detail to us. The touches don't stop at the macro, either; the smallest details are perfectly in sync with not only the concept, but its location in the city. I came to Jook Sing during happy hour and was pleasantly blown away! Extremely tasty Asian street food at an affordable happy hour price with a vibrant ambiance that is perfect for getting together with friends or co workers! I came right after work on a Friday night and there were plenty of seating options. After 7p I would certain recommend a reservation as it quickly started to fill in as I was wrapping up. From their happy hour menu I ordered: 2 wings convo which came with flavored fried whole wings and togarashi fries. Very bold, and extremely tasty. The perfect snack item and only 8 dollars from the HH menu! Lychee Martini from the HH menu which was also 8 dollars. While the happy hour menu was expansive and sufficient I wanted to explore their other menu options. From there I ordered: Popcorn Chicken: Fried chicken bites that were nice and tender and well seasoned served with a flavorful aioli Cucumber Salad: I need this recipe for home it was so flavorful and made eating veggies fun lol Cucumbers in chili oil, lime vinaigrette, sesame, and scallions. So so yummy Duck Arroz Chaufa: Essentially a duck fried rice with onion, garlic, peppers, hoisin sauce and topped with a fried egg. A menu highlight and a true star of the show! This is my boyfriend and I's go-to casual dinner spot! Located in West Town, Jook Sing has such cool vibes, friendly staff, an in-house DJ some nights, and amazing food. We always get the Internet noodles. The portion sizes are very generous and the noodles are so filling. The egg on top is perfect too! We always get some drinks to start and I would recommend the milk tea! I would also highly recommend their popcorn chicken dish, as the sauce that comes with it is amazing! The only thing I don't really like here is the dessert. We had a milk bread type dessert that I think has a pandan cream on the side. I had being hearing about this night-market for the past couple of weeks and just had to try it out. We tried a few food items, best being the fried rice. It had the perfect amount of heat kick. They make their own duck sauce which is on the sweeter side, not bad at all. If you're getting a cocktail I'd say try the Spritz, it's like a Moscow mule with gin. There's a late night happy hour on which includes Saturdays which is always nice 10pm - close. Just a heads up, none of the chairs have backs on it, if you're like me and need back support while eating. Over all the place is a cool little spot, no reservations needed. Check it out! read more

Jook Sing reminds me of a sit-down, casual street food restaurant. The decorations are adorable! They feature bright murals paired with funky lights and little decorations. It's extremely colorful and inviting inside. The tables were small, and the seating are stools. The staff were extremely friendly; they let us know about the hooks on the walls to place our jackets on, and they asked us if we wanted to connect another table over because we ordered a lot of food. The Lychee Martini was great! It's very sweet and the lychee stands out, which I love. The appetizers were pretty good. The Popcorn Chicken was delicious and came with this lovely sour yuzu aioli. The Tofu was also pretty good -- crispy on the outside but very soft on the inside. The Curry Fries were not my favorite, and I wish there was more curry. The fries were a crunchy, but the taste was not what I was expecting (more sour and salty than rich and homey). The entrees were quite good, but salty like other reviewers have mentioned. The Dan Dan Noodles were particularly salty, but quite delicious nonetheless. The tteobukki in the Mac-booki was the perfect texture, and that dish had great flavor. I went here for a bite to eat with my friend, and the atmosphere was perfect for a casual dinner. The tables have a fun pattern, there's fun art on the wall, and the overall vibe of the place seemed relaxed with the promise of amazing food lingering in the air. The menu had few options, which can be bad if you like a lot of options or good if you struggle with too many. I went with the classic Jook Sing Burger, and my friend got the seasonal special "Singapore Dry Laksa." We started with the popcorn chicken as a shared appetizer. Our server asked if the table had any allergies, which I appreciate because I have a mild peanut one. When bringing out the dishes, he made sure to explain that the dried garlic bits (closely resembling peanuts) on the dry laksa were not, in fact, peanuts. Very considerate! A self-serve water station is set up at the back of the restaurant with full-sized reusable plastic cups, straws, and extra utensils. Popcorn Chicken - The chicken was not at all dry on the inside with a nice, crispy exterior. Their size was larger than the average popcorn chicken, but the irregularity in shape gave me the peace of mind that it hadn't come in a bag of frozen, uniform pieces. It was served with 2 sauces: a spicy and an aioli. Both sauces served different purposes and worked wonderfully. The aioli was my favorite! Singapore Dry Laksa - I can't say much on this one since it was my friend who ordered it, but it does come with some tofu in there (not mentioned on the menu). My friend did comment how it could be saltier, but better not salty enough than too salty! Jook Sing Burger - This came with a side of fries, though not many. The fries themselves were unique with a slightly sweet flavor. Yum! As for the burger, it tasted good as well. Much of it was just fluffiness from the bun, though. I do wish the bun-to-meat ratio was different as I wished to enjoy more of the beef. My only qualm is that the food is a bit pricey for what it is. If I'm paying $16.50 for a burger, I'd want a few more fries on my plate and/or more meat between the bun. Otherwise, a great experience! read more

Really good food and loved the ambiance of the place. I went with my friend on a Tuesday evening right when they opened and there wasn't anyone else eating there. Food wise we got the popcorn chicken, internet, num pang, and the toast dessert. The popcorn chicken was juicy and had good sauces, the internet was yummy, and the num pang was smoky and delicious. I didn't care for the dessert. I haven't had southeast Asian street food before so I can't compare it but overall I enjoyed my experience. I'm docking a star because he messed up splitting our check and charged my friend the full check and charged me half of the check. The chicken wings had feathers still attached and though the flavor was good there wasn't a ton of meat. All the dishes were pretty salty and quite small for the prices. Nothing was terrible but nothing was great. They serve everything in Togo style/paper plates which is okay but just felt weird for how expensive everything was. It's also fairly hard to eat things when they aren't on a platter and just served in a bag. The decor inside is cool but it feels a bit like cafeteria setting for some reason. I took 8 people there on a friday night and it wasn't too packed. The service was friendly & attentive since we were the only large group eating at the time. All food was served in disposable container which felt like fast casual food but the prices for how much food we got was a bit disappointing. All the food felt fusion. A group of friends and I visited Jook Sing over the weekend and tried out an assortment of dishes. It was our first time at the venue and noticed how friendly and inviting the staff were. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and taken care of. Our waitress was attentive and would often check on us throughout the meal. We opted for family style, sharing the meal together. I would recommend this if you want to sample multiple options and if you're with a group. Jook Sing brought the Asian fusion theme to its dishes and we really enjoyed the flavors. We appreciated the popcorn chicken. Well cooked and crunchy outside, with a soft tender and juicy inside -- leaving you craving more. We also got the Chow Mein and fried rice. My friend and I came here because the food looked amazing and the interior was vibrant. The staff were friendly and welcoming but the food was awful. The "internet" was just basic indomie that was overcooked and soggy. The rice dish that I ordered was wayyyyyy too salty. It was inedible. We barely took a few bites. They don't have any cocktails. We also ordered the chicken popcorn, which was the only thing we could eat. We told the bar manager about the saltiness and he offered to get us another appetizer but we didn't wanna eat there anymore. They did give us a 20% discount, but that was the least they could do for over priced noodles and salty rice. This is just a sham, as a person who lived in Singapore and experienced street food all over Asia this is awful. The service is brutal with one waiter working the whole restaurant, our drinks came after our dishes and there were only 4 tables eating. The food is wildly over priced and poorly cooked, their signature dish popcorn chicken was ice cold and raw in the middle. The exact same with the pork Bao. Went to Jook Sing for their soft launch a few weeks ago and loved it! I dined with a vegan - we had the Internet (YUM), the Cassava Fries, and the (veganized) fried rice. Serving sizes were plentiful, and the food was delicious. For drinks, my date had the old fashioned, and I had the spritz - both very good, didn't love the glass mine was served in but not a big deal. Our host and server were so friendly and excited - it made dining there a delight! They also have single serve bathrooms with perfect lighting and decor for mirror selfies. honestly I was so excited to try this place because I love a pan Asian/Asian fusion place but this was pretty disappointing. they don't have their liquor license yet which is fine cause they're only 2 weeks old but online cocktails seem to be a big part of their thing so that was kind of disappointing. they did have fun non alcoholic drinks, I got the teh c peng which is a unique South East Asian style tea drink and I liked it, it wasn't too sweet and pretty refreshing. my friend got the slushy which was interesting, it tasted like curry but sweet. my biggest gripe is just that the food was so mid and also expensive. the salt and pepper tofu was ok, but for $11 you get this tiny take out box, you could just go to MCCB and get an entire plate of way tastier salt and pepper tofu. the Internet was literally just indomie (which is an Indonesian instant noodle). which like, fine it says that on the menu but I just thought it would be indomie prepared in a way that I couldn't do at home? like you can literally buy indomie for $0.75 and they're charging $14 to put on egg on it (which I already do at home) and put some overly salted corned beef on it. also almost everything was over salted.
