Homestyle/ comfort food Korean restaurant that feels family owned and operated. It is connected to a hotel (entrance is in the back off of Olympic). One huge positive off the bat is that there's a parking lot back there! The menu has a lot of selection, but there's a lot of comfort food classics like stews and soups. They also have the marinated crab here. The vibe and service feels like you're dining over at a family friend's house. The folks are warm and hospitable. I really enjoy these type of restaurants where you can go with small groups and enjoy delicious food family style where they use fresh ingredients and everything feels healthy at more than reasonable costs. I'm not too familiar with how popular it is, but it does feel like a hidden gem. A few friends and I came specifically because they had a special seasonal menu featuring pine or matsutake mushrooms. We, as a group, ordered some of the items off that menu as well as some classics off the regular menu. There's a good amount of vegetarian items on the menu as well. We got: - Matsutake mushroom chicken soup - delicious and comforting - Sliced Matsutake mushrooms with spicy vinegar and red pepper paste. A tasty way to really focus on the ingredient - Matsutake mushroom in seaweed soup - Ganjang Gejang - soy sauce marinated raw crab - delicious. I don't order this often because for me, it takes some work to eat (very rarely had this dish so I don't know the best way to get all the meat easily, etc.). But very tasty with rice. - Bibim Gooksoo (I think?) - we got one of the noodles, but can't remember which one. It was also tasty. - We also ordered some a couple of bottles of soju to wash it all down and the meal comes with lots of delicious fresh banchan.

jook hyang has quickly become one of my favorite spots for comforting, *healthy* korean food. we ordered the chicken ginseng soup with sticky rice in the middle, the braised beef short rib with kimchi, the "yeonyinbap jeonsik" set, and the abalone porridge -- everything was a 10/10. prices are definitely on the higher side, but you can tell you're paying for quality and health-focused dishes. the chicken ginseng soup has a strong ginseng flavor and a very thick, rich broth that clearly has a lot of collagen -- it feels like something your grandma would insist on feeding you when you're run down. the braised beef short rib with kimchi was honestly one of the most tender short rib i've had, easily pulled off the bone;. i also loved the "yeonyinbap jeonsik" set, especially the purple rice and the fish -- the fish was very tender and came in a generous portion. the abalone porridge was on the thicker side, with small pieces of abalone throughout, and felt like the ultimate korean comfort dish. the interior has a cozy, homestyle vibe that matches the food -- it really feels like going to someone's home for a nourishing meal rather than a flashy restaurant. parking is convenient in the back lot, which is shared with/next to a hotel. service was super friendly and warm; the staff checked in on us often and made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. overall, if you're looking for korean food that's both delicious and feels genuinely good for you, jook hyang is absolutely worth the splurge.

We were looking for a good healthy place to eat in koreatown and happened upon this place. Everything was very good, earthy and homey. We got the chicken and mushroom soup which was really delicious. You need to add your own salt which is nice. The seafood pancake was a big portion and delicious. We also got the set meal with the fried Crocker, soy bean soup and wild rice which was healthy and good. They have a great selection of banchan too. Service was good. They were very polite and recommended the best dishes.

This is located inside of new Seoul hotel. When we went on Tuesday night there were barely anyone here. The restaurant gives old Korean vibe but it's clean. They serve you really health water aka wooung cha and you can buy to make to at home. We ordered galbijjim, acorn noodle spicy version, samgyetang, and chicken porridge. Galbijjim was pretty good but pretty pricey. My bro said samgyetang was good. Chicken porridge and acorn noodle were ok but they were healthy kind and well made. Their food has personal touch and very different than other Korean restaurants nearby. It' has more real Korean charms.

It felt like walking into a jook restaurant in Korea! Brought back so much nostalgia. They have buckwheat tea for free which was super refreshing. I ordered the jook hyang Samgyetang and I was so shocked at the portion size! It was literally a whole chicken in there, with some jujubes and ginseng. My skin is going to reap the benefits later! Service was pretty quick , however, they didn't refill our waters.

Jook Hyang is located in the New Seoul Hotel on Olympic. There is parking located in the back of the building. I had heard some good things about Jook Hyang and so we decided to try it on a weekday for lunch. The inside is nice and bright, and there were lot more people than I expected. It seemed like a mix of people staying at the hotel and people just there for the restaurant. The customers were almost all Korean, on the older side, but I had no problems ordering even though my Korean is not so good--the menu has English translations and all the servers seemed decent enough at English. The galbi dosirak came with 3 pieces of galbi and an assortment of banchan, rice, fish, salad, fruit, etc and a soon tofu. The galbi was on the sweeter side and the soon tofu was ok, but I think it's a good deal for the amount of food that comes out. We also ordered the galbi jjim with kimchi and it was pretty good...definitely preferred it over the galbi that came with the dosirak. The service was prompt and attentive throughout the meal, and the food came out pretty quick. Overall, Jook Hyang seems like a decent option for a quick lunch. The prices are pretty reasonable and the restaurant is really nice inside. I didn't have a chance this time to try the jook (porridge) this time, but I'm sure I'll eventually be back.

Jook Hyang is a Koreatown gem. Went here with some friends for an early dinner this week and it didn't disappoint. Located in the heart of Koreatown, Jook Hyang has its own parking lot with ample spots, interior is clean and even has a lil robot that brings you your banchan. The staff was so kind and attentive. The food was exceptional...my friend speaks Korean so she ordered some dishes I've never had before and was so glad I got to try! Highlight eats the boiled stuffed chicken soup ...so comforting, great flavor and you are able to adjust the salt content on your own. The banchan was refilled as much as we liked and there were so many choices! I'll definitely be back to try more traditional dishes soon.

Mool Naengmyun
Carlo G.

A hidden restaurant for authentic and healthy Korean food! The food I had here was great. I got the Mool Naengmyun and it was solid! Flavorful, icy broth that complimented well with the vinegar and mustard, fresh veggies with a nice crunch, and great bits of protein in the egg and a slice of brisket. The noodles were also nice and chewy and didn't stick to each other. The best part for me though was the banchan. There was a great variety and I loved the quality of them such as the kimchi, potatoes, and fish cakes. The food is on the pricier side though, but for the higher quality it makes sense. The service was also great, the severs were friendly to my friend and I. There's also a private parking lot behind which is nice.

Dolsot Bibimbap w/ Bulgogi and Banchan
Willy T.

I came here for lunch and ordered a Dolsot Bibimbap with Bulgogi. I also redeemed a cinnamon punch from checking in. My order came in 12 minutes and was sizzling hot. It came with side dishes (banchan) such as broccoli, fish cake, zucchini/squash, pickled greens, seaweed, and kimchi. They were good The bibimbap had a lot of vegetables, especially bean sprouts and chives. It also had strips of egg and small pieces of meat. I do feel like the portion size is a bit small. I find it interesting how the rice doesn't stick to the clay pot and how the food actually gets hotter over time because of how hot the clay pot is. The cinnamon punch was like a tea. It reminded me a lot of horchata. This restaurant also has one of those robot waiters that have been popping up around recently. I enjoyed my lunch and think that this is a great option especially for those who are in the attached hotel and are too lazy to drive out.

Stopped by Jook Hyang in Koreatown for dinner and it was a really solid meal. It's a small, family-run spot that focuses on traditional Korean dishes, and you can tell they care about keeping things homestyle and clean. We ordered the Wild Pine Mushroom Porridge, Abalone & Ginseng Chicken Soup with Sticky Rice, and the Braised Short Ribs & Abalone in Soy Sauce. The short ribs and abalone were definitely the highlight for me. The beef was tender, the abalone had a nice texture, and the soy sauce flavor tied everything together really well. It felt balanced and satisfying without being too heavy. The porridge and the ginseng chicken soup were more straightforward, but done really well. Both were comforting and felt nourishing, especially the soup with the sticky rice inside. Overall, it's the kind of place you go when you want something warm and traditional. I left feeling good after the meal, which says a lot. I want to comeback to try some other things on the menu.

Porridge options when tummy is not at its finest

We were staying at the new soul hotel and looking for a place to eat. A friend of ours recommended another spot, which we opted against due to the poor health rating. This place was close by and had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. Glad we did! Service was very friendly, interior was simple yet functional, the food was yummy and they had a robotic waiter. We enjoyed our experience and can see coming back.

Chicken Porridge ()
Salvina L.

I absolutely loved their chicken soup/porridge. It is so simple yet so comforting and delicious. The chicken soup comes with rice in it and the rice was a nice sticky texture. I still dream about the chicken soup from here. The spicy pollack fish stew was good and only slightly spicy, but would probably not order again only because I prefer soups with simple flavors. The banchan/side dishes were also so good and tasted freshly made. Left here feeling light even though the portions were big. Very friendly service and the interior felt traditional yet well maintained. Super spacious inside. Definitely a place I'd come back to and parking is free.

Julie K.

We were drawn by the great review and it didn't disappoint. They open early so it's a great spot if you're looking to grab a bite before a morning flight. Different menus depending on the time of the day. Both our porridge and the Miyeok-guk were clean and delicious. The selection of banchan is on point - quite different from the usual kimchi and radish. Case and point, the burdock root, beef and zucchini side dishes were memorable. Very affordable and the service was good. There's also free parking in the lot which was a plus.

But as beef stew goes...it wasn't stew-ish enough. Mostly because it has some strong seasonings, and the pieces of beef were cut really small, so it was more like a beef stir fry. That said, it was really tasty. Very flavorful, and the quality of the beef was good. I can see myself going there again. As for he place itself, the staff were nice, though going at lunch meant they were a little (and understandably) distracted. The website makes it seem like it's just for pick-up or delivery, but they have a couple small tables, both inside and outside. And I do mean small. Two people max. There's also a decent sized parking lot (the place is in a mini mall), and there's usually street parking, but at the moment Wilshire is under construction, so plan accordingly.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

When you come in, there is a sign that tells you to order before being seated. My sister and her bf had yet to arrive so I placed a sizeable order for the 4 of us. Luckily, they were there (waiting in the car) so I told them to walk over so we can be seated. I ordered 2 orders of chiayi chicken (1with white rice and 1 with brown rice), 2 orders of thousand layer pancake (1 with egg and 1 with egg and cheese), shrimp wonton, dance dan noodles, wonton noodle soup, hakka mochi and forbidden rice pudding. For drinks we had a few of the shaken iced green teas and 1 taro milk tea (my sister said it didnt taste like taro) Everything was great. I was surprised my sister's bf liked the food. The chiayi chicken was good with a bit of the chili sauce (sambal). The thousand layer pancake was good if you dip it in the black vinegar (mixed with chili oil and a little soy sauce). The shrimp wonton were surprisingly light and tasty. The dan dan noodles was balanced my medium thin sliced cucumber. Everything was portioned very small so you can try everything.we didnt get additional sides because were getting full. The desserts was what I was looking forward to and it did not disappoint. The hakka mochi reminded me of the soy pudding stalls in singapore that had mochi balls filled with a black sesame paste and peanut paste inside. This is what the hakka mochi was but in dry soft chewy form with black sesame and peanut grains to top it off. For my sister, it reminded her of the filipino dessert pichi pichi. The forbidden rice pudding reminded me of a soupy version of the filipino dessert biko. It had chunks of sweet potatoes and tapioca. Also very good but my bias is the hakka mochi. It's been sitting on my saved list for a while, and honestly, this turned out to be the perfect opportunity. The space itself is bright, clean, and welcoming with warm woody tones throughout. Casual setup where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I had already looked through the menu beforehand, so the real challenge was narrowing down what to order for one person. I failed at that... and I'm very happy I did. Started with the Pig Ear Salad 滷豬耳朵. Braised thin sliced pig ears dressed with soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, scallion, and cilantro. OMG. So good. Tender, flavorful, perfectly braised, with that satisfying chewy texture done right. Also got the Fried Peanut Salad 五味花生 with garlic, cilantro, scallions, vinegar, and Thai chili. Super crunchy, bright, refreshing, and honestly addicting. I added a cup of the Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯 too. Organic tofu, beech mushroom, carrot, bamboo, woodear mushroom, and egg. Super comforting with a really balanced tang and peppery heat. Not overly thick or heavy like a lot of Americanized versions can be. Exactly the kind of soup you want during a long travel day. For noodles, I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles 擔擔麵. Sesame-peanut sauce, cucumber, cilantro, crushed peanuts. Delicious on its own already, but I ended up adding some of the fried peanuts from the salad into the noodles and it became even better. Then the Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞 with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine, and Thai basil. I do wish it had a little more wok hei, but overall the flavor was still really comforting and savory. Extremely good with rice. Had a glass of Gewürztraminer alongside everything, which paired surprisingly well with the spice and aromatics. Their wine list leans more organic / natural wine focused, which felt very LA in a good way. Ended up sitting at a high top next to one of the managers and had a great conversation throughout the meal. She ended up hooking me up with the Traditional Shaved Ice 傳統刨冰 with grass jelly, red bean, boba, sweet potato balls, taro balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I was already planning to order it anyway, and wow... I finished the entire thing. The brown sugar syrup was incredibly fragrant. Packed the leftovers to-go, and that ended up becoming my dinner after landing in San Francisco later that evening. Flight cancellation somehow turned into a really great food day.
