Thanks so much Master Bikram, the staff and fellow students!

I started with Kung Fu and I have gain so much strength and flexibility since then. The practice has been a great complement to my other physical activities such as running, cycling, and yoga. I have recently become hooked on Tai Chi and Qi Gong, the philosophy is deep and the practice is invigorating. Master Yuan really knows how to take your physical capacity to the limit. He teaches in Mandarin so if you can speak or understand Mandarin, it would be advantageous to you but not necessary. The classes/instructions are all translated by his teaching assistant Joyce. I don't speak Mandarin but do fine in the class. It's definitely a must try.

This school teaches two styles - bagua and zhaquan. I started out only interested in bagua, because…read moreit focuses more on the soft, internal side of martial arts, while zhaquan is more hard/aggressive. However, the teacher John convinced me to study both, so I finally gave in. It turns out that it's a great combination! Focusing on bagua has really helped me tune into my body and generate power from full-body energy rather than just relying on my arm or leg to strike. Zhaquan adds in the animated, relentless energy that I needed to take my martial arts to the next level. I love this school because I've been able to dig deep into the internal and self defense aspects of martial arts. John is amazing at teaching you exactly what you need when you need it. In some ways, martial arts is like that. It fits everyone's personality, whether they're in it to improve their health, or to learn to defend themselves. So long story short, highly recommended! Whether you come here or end up somewhere else, check it out and see how martial arts can fit your life!

Hopefully he learns self-defense skills as well. I took my son to this school to register, and as soon as we walked in to check out the place my son was acting very uneasy and said he wanted to go home. A class was going on at the time and the place seems a bit disorganized. We went back to the car and I asked my son if he was ok, but he just wanted to go home. I went back in alone to ask some question about the program but no one seems to care that I was there... So we came home. Later I found out one of the bullies was there in the school wearing a black belt. My son was shocked and didn't want to learn martial arts anymore. I was very disappointed! A black belt in Port Moody Taekwondo school has been bullying my son. This school is not for my son and anyone who wants to learn respect and confidence!

If you're looking to learn joint locks, this is one of the best places to go in the area. Michael Seamark Kyoshi is one of the most proficient joint lock masters I've ever met in any style of Jujutsu. That being said, do not walk in there expecting to master this art in a few months. Joint locks are still a fine motor skill, and it takes a lot of training to be able to use them practically in self defense situations. Seamark Kyoshi does, however, have efficient teaching methods for imparting this knowledge and a friendly, welcoming training atmosphere. He also offers training in law enforcement oriented techniques, being an Advanced Security Training instructor with years of experience as a security professional. In addition to having some of the most painful joint locking techniques I've ever experienced, Seamark Kyoshi is also a skilled shiatsu practitioner, with training in the art a requirement at the higher levels of the style of KoKoDo Jujutsu. Under his skilled hands I have personally received treatment which accelerated the healing of a muscle pull I had. I have never tried the yoga at this school, taught by Diane Seamark, but I have heard good things about it.
