No other gym has even come close no matter the space or equipment they have. The instruction at Franco's as well as the community you will find here are second to none. I have never trained harder. Success in the martial arts translates to all aspects of your life , and you will be happy to have started here.

I didn't really feel comfortable, I was a slow learner because I haven't stepped into a gym nothing in over 2/3 years. They don't really follow up with you either. Or give you a remind notice to make sure you will show up. I kinda felt like it was.. like if u come, u come. If u don't, u don't. Which I find unprofessional because even my lash tech will give me a text or reminder few days prior to remind me about my appointment. So I didn't really feel welcomed at this dojo.

I got a groupon to try the drop in class…read more Not bad, very small and cozy gym area. I was abit confused when I walk in because the reception area and the gym area are neck to neck. It is extremely sweaty and hot in the gym if you don't mind. I went for Monday class, there is not really any structure on the fundamental teaching (although the class description says it is adult fundamental Muay Thai class). The fitness class is good, it is a circuit and plus the heat, you will sweat like a bucket, excellent warm up for the Muay Thai class. I have done Muay Thai before so I know the fundamentals but it might be confusing for someone who has never done it before. The students and the instructors are super nice and friendly. Overall it is very bang for the buck you paid for the groupon. I would go again just because I like the challenges.

I take the Muay Thai kickboxing classes but Budo also offers Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Kyokushin Karate, X-fit conditioning classes for fighters and a variety of kids classes. The studio owners and instructors are all trained in and are practitioners of their respective disciplines, so they pay attention to and help you correct your technique. The skill set in the kickboxing classes range from newbies to trained fighters, so it's not intimidating if you want to try it out for the first time nor is it too boring if you're a trained fighter. I've definitely noticed an increase in my confidence and my fitness levels. But above all, the instructors and fellow students have made me feel more badass, which speaks loads about how much fun you have training here.

It didn't take very long to realize this place is super disorganized and unprofessional. On my…read moresecond time, the person who booked me in gave me the wrong time. The person at the front asked me my name, checked me in and let me go get changed after telling him that it was only my second time. He didn't mention anything about the class already starting. Completely wasted my time changing and getting on the matt just to be told I can't actually join the class. Terrible service, considering I have 2 text messages confirming my booked class for 6:30 when the class was actually at 6:15. The staff didn't even try to accommodate or find a solution to their mistake. Overall terrible experience. If you're looking for an actual kickboxing gym, 10/10 do not recommend this one. You spend 70% of the time either stretching or warming up and the instructors are not very experienced with kickboxing. There's no sparring, just punching bags and beginner level stuff.

My first impression after I was not properly checked for being vaccinated , was shock. The fellow…read moreat the desk had me fill out paperwork based on my health, looked at my vaccine passport and DL but when I asked him if he'd be scanning it it, he laughed and said that the iPAD they had to do that was in use and that he'd do it, later. He literally said to me: "I trust you." I thought...really? Why would you trust a complete stranger when we have many people clearly and openly trying to come into places that they shouldn't when they're unvaccinated - putting other's at risk? I thought this was very unusual seeing as I'm sure these vaccine passports can be faked and weren't they regulated by our government to check it by scanning it to make sure?? I wondered how many others weren't properly checked. This was red flag #1. The class was okay and the woman who was with me during the class showing me the moves was very pleasant and helpful. It was high impact and although I have a back injury, I thought I'd try it, anyway. After the class, I was immediately asked if I wanted to sign up for a gym membership. I told them I needed to see if this was for me, before I could commit. The fellow behind the counter wasn't there to double check that I was vaccinated so I just left. After nearly a week, I thought I'd try it again so I booked my 2nd class but I was having back pain the next day, so I called in the morning and cancelled. When I did so, I was thanked that that that would be the end of it. It wasn't. During that evening, I received an email that said: Thank you for purchasing: Order Information Order Number000107271749Order Date: Nov 2, 2021 05:51 pm Payment Method Account $10.00. I thought: Whaaaat?! They're billing me after I cancelled? I was furious (I'll openly admit that) and when I read: "Thank you for purchasing" I assumed they'd charged my credit card. I was never told about a cancellation charge by anyone and had no idea that this was automated and that I wasn't actually charged. So...I got super mad. I called up and ask them to explain why I was charged and penalized (the email clearly says: Penalty for late cancel or no show visit.1$10.00) when I'd taken the time to cancel that morning. The fellow on the phone apologized and said they'd reverse the charges - again making me think that they'd charged me without asking or letting me know this would be done. I then asked him to take my name and credit card information off of their records as I wouldn't be returning. He said he would and that was the end of the conversation. Was I upset? Hell yes! Did I yell or swear? No, I did not. In fact, in the end I thanked him for his help and hung up. I emailed both their HQ and the gym manager and expressed myself in a way in which upset clients do. I admit, there was a 'tone' but I did not behave in a way that was mean or insulting but said that if they charged all perspective members ever time they cancelled a class with them, that I was surprised that they were still in business. Their HQ did what most businesses do and above and beyond that. They apologized and reimbursed me in full (which I didn't ask for and was happy for them to keep the promotional $40 that I'd initially paid). Then things got ugly. Their Coquitlam Manager, Marissa, emailed me back, first explaining what had happened that this was a miscommunication and that the email was automated and that, no, I wasn't actually charged. Had she left it at this, I would have been fine and thanked her for letting me know. I probably would have even apologized for my 'tone' in the email but what she did next, was unbelievable. She wrote: "Your reaction is ignorant and unnecessary. There are ways of inquiring about business matters maturely and respectfully. We do not need members who aggressively make assumptions and speak to our staff in this way." Firstly, she insults me. How would anyone react to being billed for cancelling a class? When I spoke to the fellow at the gym I said: I just got a charge from you for missing this class as a penalty and I called this morning and cancelled it: can you explain this to me, please?? He asked if I'd cancelled the class (even though I'd just told him I did) and I said, yes! I did! Again, I didn't raise my voice or insult anyone. People get upset; it's a normal reaction to getting charged without being told this would happen. When I responded to her in shock that she'd even say this to me, she kept up the fight and refused to back down - taking what I wrote and incorrectly saying that her staff DID properly check my vaccine passport. Just to be clear, they did not. She could have called me or asked when a good time to chat would be to explain what happened. She did neither and applied her own assumptions, telling me in the end that they didn't want me as a client. I'm okay with that seeing as I'll never go there again. What shocks me is the attitude and unprofessional approach by a "manager".

Unfortunately, places like this are becoming more and more scarce, which is pretty ironic…read moreconsidering how many dudes are heading to bars to watch UFC in silly t-shirts that look like they've just had their asses whooped by an 8-year old girl armed with a bejeweller. For countless millennia, our species has survived in part because men have testosterone pumping through their collective veins, enabling them to be aggressive and violent, to hunt for food and to protect their families. Over the past 150 years these qualities have become woefully redundant. Sadly, anger management courses, some sensitivity training and a few yoga classes are a laughable effort towards finding a healthy outlet for these hormonal tendencies which have been hardwired into men for millennia as a means towards ensuring our collective existence. If for no other reason than for providing such an effective outlet for this hardwired aggression which has recently become a hindrance rather than a boon, Kel Lee's deserves 5 stars... ...But wait! There's more! Kel Lee's is one of the most inclusive, accepting, and respectful environments you're ever going to walk into. I have been to all kinds of gyms and fitness clubs and this, after one class of getting to know the people and the environment, is not at all intimidating. The culture is of people who are there to learn and train, no more, no less. Yes, it's mostly men, and they're mostly 24-35, but there is a liberal sprinkling of everyone else you could imagine as well, and everyone is both welcomed and accommodated. However, be warned: this is not a school for the weak, who will be generally culled. This is a competitive school which trains fighters. You will be put into full contact situations probably earlier than you think you will. You will experience pain, and you will receive (minor) injuries. While the doors are open to all, I can see a lot of people after one week or even one class saying, "This is just not for me." If you're looking to come once or twice a week for a little exercise and camaraderie, that's fantastic, but if you're really looking to push yourself, practice serious discipline, blow off a lot of steam, and learn a lot about martial arts and fighting in a safe, serious environment, then welcome.

Great circuit, good trainers, energy and the work out is only 30 minutes. It goes by very fast. I'm so happy I decided to go try something new. The trainer did NOTHING. She asked if I was ok as I sat on the floor in agony. I was the only person working out at that moment so you could HEAR the pop. I asked if I could have an ice pack or if they had a first aid kit and she said they did not. I asked if I could at least have a water from the refrigerator so I could stop the swelling and she did grant me that (but I had to give it back). I reported this and asked if I could end my contract but they did not allow me so I paid FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR. It's a year and a half later now and I'm still recovering from this. I'm still getting, "We miss you" emails from them which has engorged my rage and prompted me to warn others about this. If this doesn't stop you from signing up, check out their hours. They are absolutely HORRIBLE. For a person with regular work hours, not convenient at all. Unless you like live like right next door. Oh, yeah, another issue I had was I moved to Vancouver suddenly, like a week after signing up. Nope. Not convenient at all. They rope you in with this "woman safe space" which is complete BS when they obviously don't care about you, even when you get injured RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM.
