Well, we had the Jones SWAT team to the house the other day. What I mean by that is we had the annual Genrac service, and a HVAC guy to tie in the central air, to the new burner system I needed in December. Work had to be done in the spring time, couldn't be done in winter. Patrick spent about 2 hours on the tie in, and when he was finished, my ducts were blowing 42 degree air conditioning..AAAHHHH. We actually needed to turn the air on the day after he serviced it. It was blowing cooler and faster than before. Now the Genrac guy goes to work. As part of the service we get a new oil filter, oil, and general tune up. Small problem, it was not turning over that quick. The battery in it was the original battery from when it was installed, 6 years ago. And of course, the tech has a battery in his truck. This is something I can't go and do myself, or price shop. The initial price seemed reasonable, then I got a loyal customer discount, then he had customer coupons bring the price even lower. I'm happy. Just one downside..during the service he has to kill the power coming into the house, to simulate a power outage..Genrac fired right up within 10 seconds..the downside, my wife had to reset every digital clock in the house, AND they all must match the time. All in all, these service tech.'s are great, and I am completely satisfied. read more

I called Jones because our normal local plumber was on vacation. They had a service technician come out the next day. Excellent customer service and response. That's where it ends. They wanted 2000.00 to purchase and install a new 40 Gallon water heater and to remove the existing one. We also needed a small pipe fix. I googled pricing for water heater replacement because that seemed high. I saw great reviews on Lowe's and their installers so I called them. Long story short. They were half the price of Jones and there the day after installing our water heater. I always try and work with local vendors but when you rip me off. You're out. Be aware . read more

I read these reviews after Jones responded to my call about a gas leak. I called Jones because my husband, who is deceased, used them so I trusted them. I was told some of my gas piping was in the garage ceiling and to find any leak coming from there (which they said, at least one leak appeared to be coming from, that they would have to tear down the ceiling. Since I had more than one gas leak in the pipes, I was told it was best to just get new pipes run outside of the ceiling. Most of the pipes were outside of the ceiling already but I was told if they knocked down the ceiling it would cost just about as much as new pipes, so I went with that. The cost was $4,812.79, counting the tax, to run them from the garage, through a small area downstairs and up to the kitchen. The plumber was here a bit longer than he had to be because he put in a pipe crooked and, later when he saw what he had done, he fixed it, even though I did not ask him to. I don't think that had anything to do with the price and I was glad he wanted his work done properly, but they were here all day and I wanted them to leave --- so I wished the pipe had been put in correctly in the first place. Anyway, I am 75 and live on a fixed income and am trying to stay in this old house that holds so many memories. That was a lot of money for me. After reading these reviews I am not sure if I should stick with Jones. I am going to give them a decent review because it appears they did a good job, and because in the past they seemed to do a good job on work we had done here -- but I am unsure if they overcharge. I hope not because I may need new water pipes since I have some very small leaks in the kitchen and bathroom. My son can fix some of them but Jones said I need new pipes. Anyway, I am giving three stars for the work but the price is what stops me from giving anymore. I hope someone in the business comments on whether it was fair or not. read more

Contacted Jones regarding a couple of electrical projects. Nick came out and explained each of the available options regarding the major project. The second project would've required moving wired behind a beam and Nick provided a money saving work around. Lastly needed a common wire connected which was required to connect a Nest thermostat. I can talk about all the steps along the way that made this experience great but in the end, it was good service with a great result! Got my furnace replaced, switched from oil to propane and it all good! I later called Jones back to take care of some minor plumbing work. Again, great work. I'll have them on speed dial for the next project as well. Is it expensive? Maybe, but I know that the work here is good and I haven't had a problem after the repair or replacement. read more

Had a problem in my bathroom. First time they came they charged me $107 & suggested some work I could do myself. I did the work and it didn't fix the problem. They came back a second time to do a smoke test - as I requested and as operator assured me they would do - but did NOT do a smoke test. Technician apologized and told me the operators were clueless. He then gave me the phone number of another company to call... Overall a waste of my time. On the bright side, they refunded me for the initial visit after I asked. They did not charge me for the second visit. Fair enough. Just wish I hadn't wasted another week because an operator told me a job would be performed that the technicians actually do not do. Operators should be more knowledgeable/informed about what the technicians are capable of. read more

A disgustingly stupid and agressive company. Set up appt for brand-new service and a service call was made the next day after which the tech pressured me into buy a maintenance contract I didn't need. I was VERY NICE to him -- I', new there; trying to be polite. He phoned back and told me the charge for the service call and said he wanted my cc number. I don't give cc numbers to technicians. I give them to billing managers in an office or pay the bill by logging in online. They don't have that. The wanted IMMEDIATE payment although someone named Mary-Elizabeth said to me the day before that they would send me an invoice to I could pay them. Five minutes later, this Mary-Elizabeth phoned (all condescending sweetness and light) and demanded payment. In the 21st century, I said, reputable companies have online payment systems or the customer pays once he receives a bill. To get rid of her, I gave her my cc number and told her never to contact me again and to snail me paid receipt. A minute later I recd an e-mail w/receipt and a bogus welcome letter from something named "Bill Jones." I replied to tell him that I had told his rep never to contact me and the e-mail bounced: no such address. The personification of everything that is wrong w/small business. Scumbags. read more

I was very happy with the service provided by these folks. I called to have my furnace serviced and it led to every homeowners nightmare of needing to replace the whole system. As a new homeowner, every person I dealt with at this company took the time to walk me through and explain what was happening and to clearly outline what my options were. Tim was our design/sales guy and while he made suggestions based on his expertise, he in no way pressured us to choose anything we didn't want to. These guys will charge you an arm and a leg. A $100 dollars worth of parts and five hours of labor cost us $1500. We could've practically had a new boiler installed. Tried to contact the manager at jones and get the runaround. Save yourself the money and call a local guy who sleeps well at night knowing he takes care of his customers not takes advantage. read more

Way too expensive, you're better off trying to figure out how to fix whatever on your own. It cost me $2700 to fix the hot water heater and they didn't even clean up afterwards. They also took the old heater which I later learned was either recycled or returned for a profit. The same water heater they installed cost $500 at both Lowe's and Home Depot so they pretty much CHARGED me $2,250 to install and made a profit. Rip off do not use, shop around. read more

Nicholas B. came earlier than the appointed time to see about the problem with my thermostat. After recommending a replacement for the malfunctioning one, he said he would service my furnace while I told him I'd run out to buy one for him to install. We were considering relocating the thermostat but he said not to bother, as it was located properly, and that all we had to do was turn the thermostat to 'fan on' to move the hot air from the fireplace around to the rooms in the house while it was on. Nick installed the thermostat, programmed it for us and then instructed me on how to work it. I signed up for a service contract so that I could get emergency after hours service in the future. My old company, Val Bruni, texted me that they would return my 'emergency service' as soon as possible, which was 8 hours later. That's when I looked up other companies and noted the high ratings for Jones. If everyone there is like Nick B. then this is the company I'd recommend! read more

Looks like all bad reviews are under "other reviews" on yelp. This is my experience (if you want short version, call Lowes on Chester, very professional, well priced): They installed one furnace then came to give me a quote on another one. We were new homeowners when the first one was installed and did not know any better, they charged us abut $2,500 more than other companies would have. They did do a good job with installation and are responsive when you call them. I also had a plumbing issue, once again I was over charged. I know this because later I received quotes from other professionals and the cost was significantly different. Finally, my second furnace broke. Called them to come and take a look (only reason I called them again was because a part on the old furnace had been replaced by them, paid for by previous owner, and it was under warranty). They wanted to sell me a 90,000 btu Amana for $5,400, plus a humidifier for $650, and at that price, Tim, sales manager, said company was breaking even and could offer it only if installed that Tuesday because they were slow (pressure sales tactics). I called Lowes, their AC guy Chris is great, honest man, not too worry about making an extra $ but more concern about customer needs. He gave me an honest quote of $4700 INCLUDING humidifier, that's $1300 less, for a Lenox, which is a better brand. In short, this company will over charge every time, watch out, get second quotes, this sort of practice is predatory in my opinion. I gave them 2 stars because they will do a good service job. However, so will many companies for much less. read more

Well, we've done what we've been thinking about for years. We put in a Generator and used Jones for the job. They were wonderful from the beginning of the process (answering all of our numerous questions) to getting the paperwork taken care of, to doing the Installation which went really smoothly. Everyone involved in every phase of the job from the planning of what type of generator we should get, to laying the gas lines, to reconfiguring our electric panels was clearly a PRO and so nice to deal with. Now when it starts to snow heavily, there's a weight that's lifted from me; not having to be cold and in the dark. I would definitely recommend them if thinking of doing an installation. read more

So, I'm updating the rating based on my last experience. I arranged for a checkup which had the potential to be a small job. When I set the appointment, I was told that in the event that the small job needed to be done, the materials necessary would be "on the truck," and could be completed immediately. I took a day off from work to get this taken care of. The plumber ended up arriving several hours late, and was only willing to do an estimate, not the job itself. The job was completed the next day by a different plumber, and - of course - I had to take another day off from work. The work itself was fine, but the inability to do the work the first day, and the level of late-ness on the first day without any proactive communication or notifications whatsoever is inconsistent with the very high prices Jones charges. I'm okay being charged a premium, but that requires premium service every visit. I didn't get it this time. read more

I will never use Jones for anything again. 18 months ago we bought a pellet stove from them for $5000. now when we need service they say that they are no longer servicing pellet stoves we need to go somewhere else if we need service. they have scheduled and cancelled 2 appointments that they made for service. now they want me to call someone else. They responded within 24 hours and wanted more than $500 to snake a drain. They were more than willing to charge me even more if I wanted, they gave me 5 options all were more expensive than the base $500. Tried to leverage a sale by telling me that my kids were not safe due to the clogged drain? I really expected more professionalism and less sleazy sales tactics. I'll try a licensed plumber that doesn't depend on maintenance contracts for revenue. Also, their employees are an absolute pleasure to deal with, from the office staff to the guys they send to your home. This latest appointment for the annual maintenance on the whole home generator they installed a couple of years ago, they send David. Like all the other Jones electricians, David was a total professional who got right to work, finished fast, explained everything he did and even took some extra time to answer some lingering questions I had about the general operation of our generator. Contacted this company to make an appointment to have somebody to visit my home to determine the proper backup generator and get a price for the installation of it as well a price for a service contract. Apparently they feel that the customer should be subservient to their way of doing business. First they expected me to wait me 2 hours for a technician/salesman to show up like they are the monopolistic power company. When I told them I would not wait 2 hours they agreed upon a specific time and advised me that they would call when the technician was on his way. They did so 10 minutes prior to my appointment informing me the tech was just wrapping up his current tasks. The lady from the office who called told me said she would call when he is on his way. That call never came until 2.5 hours later. I expressed my dissatisfaction over this and her answer was that the technician's prior job took longer than expected. I then asked why didn't she call earlier and her reply was that she is timely advising people of his schedule. Is making somebody wait 2.5 hours after you have been advised that the individual you are expecting will come over shortly, timely? Apparently in Jones Service Company's world it is but I am sure it is not to most people. I then asked for the manager who basically had a big attitude. All he could say was that he cancelled the appointment and it cannot be undone. My reply to him was that I rather not do business with Jones Service Company. I think he felt that I am at the mercy of him and his company's obnoxious, condescending and unprofessional business philosophy. I could just imagine what predicament I would be in if I had Jones Service Company install the generator, have problems with it and then suffer a power outage while I am waiting for them to come service my generator at their own leisure. I called Jones Service as my very old furnace decided to finally go - it gave it its all. I made a call at night and asked for service. Within 10 min the service tech, Greg called me to give me my options for service. He kindly showed up within the hour and gave me the bad news - but with that, 5 reasonable options - I could fix my very old (30yr!) furnace, (4 options on how) and 1 option to go for a new one . We voted for a new one. The next morning I got a call to set up a time I can meet with Tim who helped walk me through varies options on what types of new ones are out there and different price points. At this time the decision was also made to replace the hot water heater and air conditioner since they were just about as old. There was no pressure to buy "up" - Tim explained it all and left it up to my husband and I to choose the right way to go + 4 different finance options. The same day the hot water heater came and Steve and Alex were friendly, neat and respected our home. 2 days later, the furnace and air conditioner (note - they would have come the next day, but we weren't available). Steve came back with Jamieson and once again did a lovely job. I have my hot water and heat all working and in the spring, my AC should be so much better than the 30 yr old compressor I was using. From the initial consultation with Tim, our "Comfort Advisor," we felt we were treated as a valued customer. Crew Chief Mike was amazing... the efficiency and care he put into the AC installation was incredible. He and assistant Nick kept on task for 3 days straight without breaks for lunch. Had Jones in to fix outdoor spigots. I took off work for the appointment and had to return as soon as the job was done. The technician spent a good 45 minutes trying to up-sell me on everything possible from the kitchen faucet to a water treatment system. After I attempted to make it clear for the 3rd time that I was pressed for time and just wanted the repair done, he finally gave me a price. He quoted me almost $700 to repair two burst spigots! I swear my jaw dropped. When I asked why it was so expensive he told me that they were experts and that I got more than just a plumber with them, he actually said that one of the things was that they wear the blue booties into houses. Sheesh. I ended up getting one spigot fixed because I needed it in a hurry. It took 20 minutes once he actually started the job. When he was done he wanted to talk water treatment again! Stay away from Jones. The up-selling was super annoying and a complete waste of my time. It took far too long to get the technician to address the work I actually hired him to do. read more

We couldn't be any more satisfied with the service we received from Mike, Joe and Marshall who replaced our central a/c system and fixed/added new ductwork to address a major pre-existing issue. After finishing their work on both days of the two day job, you would never know that they were here - they left the work and staging areas inside and outside of my home spotless. This installation turned into a bigger job than expected but Mike explained the issues to me and really cared about doing the job correctly with the structural limitations they faced. Joe made sure to take time to explain the work completed walking me through everything. Mike and Marshall both answered any questions I had in a way so that I understood the answers. I don't like having service techs in my home (does anyone?) but I felt very comfortable with Mike, Joe and Marshall being in my home and I have confidence in the work they completed. We are very happy we chose Jones Services to help us with our HVAC system and will choose to always use their services in the future. read more
