The review is for the service itself, not what my family experienced in making the arrangements. But if full disclosure, they had no complaints. Gatling has two floor and what looks like a basement as well. You can walk up stairs to the rooms on the second floor, but there are also elevators for those that need it. The room itself was well maintained and the sound system was good. The service itself was very well organized. It started on time and the pastor conducting the service kept everything on time and moving as intended. I was most impressed that they respectfully told the crowd that only certain representatives of my cousin's family and friends would be allowed to speak; everyone else could share their stories at the repass. I loved this. While everyone in each group got to go up on the stage, one person spoke for them. My first cousin (the husband) did not go up, but that was cool as it was his choice to let his kids have their say. The entire experience was handled very professionally. I was impressed at level of professionalism of the staff. Everyone was courtesy in greeting me, directing me to the location where the service was being held. The parking staff was also nice, directing me to a space that would allow me to leave early as I had another memorial event to attend later that day. They still have the screen outside for drive by visits, but it was not on that day. Yes the decor is dated but it was clean. I loved that the staff were all in they same uniforms for the most part. There were 1-2 gentlemen who were in suits, but the maroon colors were a nice touch. All in all, for a sad event, this was handled in a well organized manner. You tend not to want to think about future plans, but this would be a place on my list. Professional, organized and on point with the time management.

Gatlin is a bit "extra" in my humble opinion and I'd recommend AA Rayner & AR Leak for funeral…read moreservices. Their funeral directors are friendly enough and the quality of the services and presentation/preparation is acceptable but it just isn't as professional in its presentation as others.

I see these reviews and am totally shocked by the one star and horrible remarks. Our family has…read moreused Taylor since 1985 with my Grandma. Next there was my uncle in 1998, and my sister in 2010. Now my dear Mother has relocated to heaven and we are using Taylor to prepare Mama, as the services will be at her church. So we met with a truly wonderful and helpful gentleman - Mr. James Sandifer. He was amazingly compassionate and helpful. He walked us through the process, gave advice, communicated with us constantly, and was simply our guide and support through the process. We then spoke with Mr. Allen, who also was extremely kind and compassionate. His role is to oversee the funeral cars. He was very kind and empathetic - truly caring. Then Mr. Townsend, who prepared my Mom. He called yesterday to offer condolences, and to let me know that he finished preparing my Mom earlier than planned. He then told me that she's beautiful. When we arrived today to see my Mom, both Mr. Sandifer and Mr. Townsend were with us and offered tremendous support and compassion. My Mom looks angelic ... perfect. The casket Mr. Sandifer helped us select is perfection - very feminine and ladylike - like Mama. The job they did was in excellence, and they made us feel really special and they cared for my Mom with extra kindness. Thank you all so much ... so very much. You have been there for our family consistently over the years, and you've always done a job that is above and beyond. Thank you so very much ... you have no idea how much we appreciate you! God bless you all ... as long as you're there, you are and will be the choice for our family. Thank you over and again! Tracey Marshall

This funeral home is nice but very simple as far as decoration. It seems like they got stuck in a time warp from the 70's. With its paneled walls and carpeting. Although still a bit dark for my taste. They do have lamps all around, but I think that makes it seem older. Most of the wakes I have come to here are from the neighborhood. Older Polish families, but with the influx of Latinos, times are a changing. I like the fact that although parking lot is small, its still can hold at least 30 cars which of course is not bad. The service was simple, they put snacks in the kitchen (which also is a bit on the older side), and well what else can I say. Would I have my own family for a service here? Ehhh, probably not, but it is simple and I am sure inexpensive. I asked my friend (yes we have a pretty good relationship that I can ask), if her family spent a lot here. She stated the reason they had it at this particular home is because their prices are compatible. But there you go.

We were very close to him and this was very emotional and difficult to do. We had never had to plan services and didn't know where to begin. We visited a few other locations in the area and were greeted in a very "business" manner. Although we were trying to fulfill our uncles wishes by planning ahead, some of the nearby funeral homes refused to discuss options in detail or show us caskets because he had not passed away yet. Despite my sister having legal documents to prove she was his power of attorney, one gentleman in particular told us that one of my uncles siblings had to be present to make arrangements as that was his next of kin. We left the location feeling very disrespected and disappointed. Im glad we left because upon entering Modell we were greeted by Mari. Our experience from that moment on was one we will never forget. She was very helpful, compassionate and patient. She took her time to show us around, answered our questions and never once did she question our intentions. She allowed us to pick out every detail without asking us for a dime. We then met Gloria and we felt right at home. My uncle ended up passing away later that week and we were glad were able to plan ahead. I can't imagine making arrangements during those difficult times. All in all I have much respect for this place and all of its staff. My uncles services were perfect and Gloria did such an amazing job with his makeup. Modell is family owned and we were treated like family from the moment we walked in, to when they picked up his body at the hospital, to the moment he was laid to rest. Im thankful for their team and I highly recommend their services.
