Jonathans who is known for excellent food did not meet the mark in Bridgeland. I had the sliders (2) they were over cooked and had nothing on them but cheese. I then tried the ceviche it was dry, dry, Sahara dry nothing on it, seasoned but not seasoned with good flavors, not good at all!! . This food is far less than expected having been a customer of Jonathan's in the memorial area. I expected it to be chef inspired high end cuisine but it is "cook" level food. Jonathan came out west and lost all his flavor on the trail ride. Jonathan remember that just because you're away from where people's taste buds are more refined that you should still bring the best flavors to represent your Name and Brand. I had ordered the ribeye with garlic butter. It was transcendent. The moment that first bite touched my tongue, I briefly understood peace. Not metaphorically, spiritually. If there is a heaven, I suspect it tastes remarkably similar. The service was swift and precise, as if the staff already understood the gravity of what they were delivering. No delays. No missteps. Just efficiency worthy of the meal itself. The ambiance, however, carries a certain... intensity. A bit loud. We happened to see this place one evening after leaving HEB and figured we'd give it a try one day. Unfortunately, we didn't do any research before going on a Friday during happy hour. Immediately upon arrival, we were asked if we had a reservation. The restaurant was practically "full" and the bar was packed, but there were several empty tables that were reserved. We were given the option to be seated on the patio and waited an half hour before being seated. I was a little disappointed because some people after us were offered wait time on standard/bar seating. But I digress. The patio area had direct sunlight for that time of day. Several customers were attempting to shade their eyes/face using various items. I'm guessing someone inside complained about the sunlight and a huge umbrella was used to cover the window. It would have been nice if something like that was offered to the patio guests. We ordered from the happy hour menu: Steak Skewers and Loaded Mashed Potato Balls. For drinks they provided complimentary water and we ordered a whiskey sour and the Tropical Thunder from the happy hour menu as well. Everything was good. We're considering returning for dinner eventually but will keep in mind that we need to make a reservation. read more

Judd is the best part of coming to Jonathan's! He is very attentive and provides excellent service. We have been several times now and it is hit or miss on the food and drinks. I have decided that their appetizers and sides are the best and I really enjoyed the parmesan flounder as well after I picked off the peppers. The sauce was amazing although could have had a little more on it. The sweet chili shrimp is amazing and if you get a side or two that completes the meal! Try to be seated in the bar area or the separate room away from the kitchen. You will leave smelling like BBQ if you sit too close. It stays pretty busy on the weekends so a reservation is highly recommended. read more

We went to Jonathan's the Rub in Bridgeland last minute with our neighbors (party of 6) yesterday. Since it was last minute, there were no reservations available, but we arrived early and sat in the bar as there are 2 larger tables. There is a little flaw in planning the space because half our party had the sun directly in their eyes for about an hour. There was no way to shade the offending windows (door? I'm not sure but some windows had shades) We ate almost completely off the happy hour menu, trying bites of everything. Everything we had was delicious-both specialty drinks and food. The prices were a bit high and while they were trying to make it easy and just have all the food for $8 each-it was inconsistent. For example, the ceviche portion was big enough for 2-3 people for $8, but the bruschetta was just one small slice of bread for $8. Again-everything we tried was very tasty. We ended our night sharing 2 pieces of cheesecake to celebrate a birthday. It was also delicious! The service was good-sometimes the drinks were a little slow but it's a new restaurant and I think that will work out in time. Overall it was a good experience and we'll make a reservation to try the main dining room next time! read more

Oh Deary oh my. Not sure if this was a case of a bad apple spoiling the bunch...however... Arrival was a few minutes prior to happy hour ending and bar space was found. The...lovely barkeep lady was none too happy to take the drink and food order for happy hour given the time to spare, having to request a happy hr. menu instead of the standard menu. If you have ever worked industry, you do not begin by telling people "there is only 10 minutes left during happy hour" and present only regular menus. No kidding. That's like telling Moses he had a time limit to get down the hill. Progression downhill (pun?) as attitude, intonation, and connotation are key for a good barkeep. The beef skewers were amazing. Tender and juicy. Well seasoned. The ceviche saved. Light. Fresh. Well dressed. Clean taste. The shine. The niggle comes down to service. New and popular location. If you did not want to work that night or take happy hour orders...had a bad day...or are hung over at that time of the afternoon...whatever...stay home and call in. Having worked industry... even as a line cook...If it is the last minutes of happy hour...now is your time to shine and make the sale. Then upsell clients by your outstanding service instead of being...shall we say...prickly...uninviting, and ignoring making your clients just get the mediocre bill and leaving. This was our 1st time at this location. The atmosphere has a "date night" vibe. Our server was super attentive (can't recall his name, unfortunately). We enjoyed delicious wine and a cocktail before dinner. I absolutely loved my Waldorf Chicken Salad and my husband enjoyed his Denver Roast. We ordered desserts to finish our evening. I'm so happy Jonathan's The Rub has made it to Bridgeland! I've been wanting to try their food and finally got the chance to. The interior decor is lovely inside. Everything is clean and aesthetically pleasing! For our appetizers we ordered the Sweet Chili Shrimp and Maryland Crab Cakes. The shrimp really surprised me, I was not expecting them to be so big! When I saw the size I thought they were gonna be full of breading but no, they were large shrimp. The sweet chili sauce is good but very sweet. I would order them again. As for the crab cakes, those were my mom's pick and she wasn't a fan. It tasted like a crab burger. It was a lot of breading and the crab was mixed too much and there wasn't much flavor to them. We also decided to order a small caesar salad to share and we somewhat had an issue with our salad but it was handled. The first salad we received had so much dressing on it. Some people might enjoy that but it was too much for our liking. Our server even noticed it was more than it should've been on there and he got us a new one with no problems. As for the taste it was good and I can tell it was homemade but I don't know it was very heavily mayo based. It was too much of something yet still missing something but I don't know what. I feel like many people would enjoy this salad though so I would still recommend it. For my meal I went with the Double Smashed Burger. The burger was flavorful, juicy and cheesy. Those grilled onions set it off. It was delicious. My only complaint would probably be the sweet bun, i'd prefer one that's not sweet but I know sweet buns are popular with burgers so I don't mind especially since it was so good. I can't forget about the hand cut fries. Those were delicious as well. If there's anything I can recommend is this meal. You can't go wrong with a juicy burger and fries. Hopefully I'll return soon and update my review with a better experience! I still want to try more of their menu items! As for service, my server was pretty busy so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as it's valentines weekend. Thankfully there wasn't a wait when my mom and I arrived at around 4 PM on a Friday but the crowd does pick up so i'd suggest coming early or to RSVP! read more

I've had a great experience and a not so great experience. While the food is great, they do not seem to excel when they are under pressure. You can tell everyone is very lost when they are overwhelmed. Will still return, but hopefully they can all work together to improve. Not to mention we were told the patio was closed (no on in the restaurant) and they have since seated many people on the patio. read more

Young bartenders - please be mindful of either washing your hands after rubbing your nose & putting fingers in mouth when listening to others,etc OR build the discipline to keep hands off your face when making Drinks. Especially the "charcuterie" style set up you have to dress drinks - you can't expect us to be ok with you rubbing your face before sticking sprigs and orange slices... in our drinks. Despite it being a Thursday night, every seat in the house was occupied which was great to see and added to the lively atmosphere. Across the table, we sampled four cocktails, four appetizers, four entrées, and a dessert. Our server was wonderful, knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations. Notes on standout dishes below. Appetizers Ceviche - 5/5 Bright, well-balanced flavors with seafood diced perfectly to pair with the thick, ultra-crunchy tortilla chips. Fritto Misto - 5/5 Perfectly crisp, well-seasoned batter with tender squid and shrimp throughout. Bacon-Wrapped Scallops - 4/5 Very fresh scallops with great flavor; I would have loved a slightly deeper sear for a touch more exterior crispness. Crab Cakes - 4/5 Nicely seasoned, though I would have preferred a bit more flaky crab texture rather than a more blended consistency. Entrées Shrimp - 5/5 Bold and flavorful, slightly on the salty side but pairs well with a complementary side. Cioppino - 5/5 A lighter, more delicate take than the traditional tomato-based version, yet still rich and brimming with shellfish. Denver Roast - 5/5 Hearty and comforting, with an excellent red wine gravy. The slow-roasted beef was tender and paired beautifully with the mashed potatoes. Redfish New Orleans Special - 5/5 A special offering similar in style to the shrimp entrée. Perfectly cooked, well-seasoned fish balanced nicely with rich, cheesy grits. The service the first time was questionable, but the second time was much better. Servers are still learning the menu; they were very friendly and tried very hard. We had a fantastic experience on JTR's first Friday open. Cocktails, wine, & food were great. We had one little hiccup with our appetizer that was quickly taken care of by Shepard. Jasmine made sure to take great care of us. She gave great recommendations on the menu. My chicken piccata delicious! And my husbands ribeye was cooked to perfection. We had chocolate cake and tiramisu for dessert. We preferred the tiramisu but the chocolate cake was still so good. While the prices are a bit higher than some of the restaurants in the area the portions are huge! We should've shared entrees and sides. Tonight was my first time trying out the Bridgeland location and wow it didn't disappoint at all. I've enjoyed seeing JTR being just concrete, to a building and the build out to a completed amazing restaurant with an awesome atmosphere and food. The service was great! The Chicken Parmesan was the best I have ever had and the Apple Pie Cheesecake dessert was the best cheesecake I have ever had as well. These two items are staples of mine that I order but hands down both were the best I have had from all over the US. It was great to visit with Jonathan and can't wait to go back. read more

The place is lovely with great ambiance. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and I have no complaints. My lemon drop martini was really good as well as my ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely! I got Mac and cheese and asparagus as the sides and both were very good. My son had the shrimp kids meal and said it was ok. The Caesar salad was good but I wasn't a fan of the croutons, they lacked flavor and the consistency was weird and crumbly. My biggest complaint was the appetizer, it was just ok. We ordered the frito misto and it had only 2 shrimp and ALOT of calamari, it was enough for 4 people for sure, but presentation seemed off from the rest of the meal. It was cooked nicely with a crunch light breading but it was served with cocktail sauce which tasted like just ketchup and tartar sauce. I would suggest more shrimp and different sauces, maybe a remoulade or a lemon garlic butter sauce along with a spicier cocktail. Overall it was good and I loved the location on my side of town and I would recommend trying it! read more

Our waiter was a great ambassador for the new Jonathons, a young man named Judd. He was very knowledgable, and we followed his suggestions for Dr. Pepper Pork Chop and a small Filet, with J-1 sauce. Food was fantastic, wine by the glass was fairly priced and good selections. Finished the night with a Knee to Grasshopper dessert martini, which was excellent. Soft opening excepted a little slow. Drink were good and a little strong. Ordered the tuna which was good a few pieces a little fishy tasting but overall ok. Wife at jalapeño redfish sauce was good fish a little dry. The main disappointment was nothing no sides everything separate. Restaurant nice and looks good and clean.
