As a new patient, I saw Dr. Botts and had a similar experience to other reviewers here. I found him to be distant, rushed and not really present at all. I don't need warm and fuzzy, but his lack of bedside manner was severe. He barely glanced at my x-ray to confirm I had arthritis in my right knee and rattled brief, perfunctory answers to my questions regarding surgery and other options. He seemed annoyed that I was even there. When I left the office after receiving my treatment, it was packed with patients and most of whom were standing, some on crutches, due to lack of seating. His office is an absolute unprofessional nightmare. I called multiple times to follow up a prescription that was supposed to be called into my pharmacy. I never got a call back or the prescription handled. When I was able to get a hold of a live person, I was only told another person handled that I would have to leave a message for her. I would never come back here and caution you to move on in your search for an orthopedic physician. read more

Whoever gives this place and Dr Botts anything under five stars has a room temperature IQ. The negative reviews are all around the doctor and staff being effective and precise with their time. He doesn't get paid to kiss your boo-boos or hear your dumb story. Instead he focuses on accurate diagnosis and precision surgery. As for the staff they are all super responsive and empathetic. Monica the surgery coordinator is the most competent medical professional I have ever met and appears to juggle annoying patients and temperamental drs with ease. Dr. Botts is patient, caring, and listened to my concerns. He performed extensive surgery on my left shoulder and left wrist for carpal tunnel. Monica Rodriguez, surgical coordinator, is amazing. She made sure I understood what to expect and followed up with physical therapy orders. All office staff were welcoming but Monica really stood out! My only complaint is that I left a message for the medical assistant and NEVER received a call back. I reading other reviews, this seems to be a common complaint. read more

I'm 5 years post Achilles repair surgery. I was able to return to playing soccer quickly, and to this day, my Achilles is very strong. I am so grateful that Dr. Botts was my surgeon. Waited a month for this appointment only to be treated like a second-class citizen. Took forever to be seen at the appointment then when Jonathan came in he rushed through without reviewing all my results properly I had to ask several times for him to actually look at them. He seemed irritated by every question, like he just wanted to move on to the next patient (or paycheck). Dr. Botts is fantastic--always kind, attentive, and thorough. However, the office experience has become increasingly inconvenient. In 2023, I had surgery and received clear post-care instructions, timely follow-ups, and overall seamless coordination. Unfortunately, my experience in 2025 was completely different. This time around, there was a complete lack of communication. I never received my surgery time and had to call the surgery center myself to find out. The office did not return multiple messages or follow up via email. After surgery, I had to reach out multiple times just to get my pain medication sent over, and I was given no post-care instructions--no guidance on when to remove bandages, what exercises to start, or any follow-up appointments. The surgery center gave me a post care phone call to follow up, but not a word from this office. It feels like I am left to coordinate my own care while also recovering as a patient. Dr. Botts himself remains excellent, but the office's lack of communication and the minimal support from the doctor's office made an already stressful process much more difficult. So, a joke. MRI showed several poor aspects of my shoulder and after Dr. Botts looked at it on his computer with his back turned to me, he turned around and said "Well... you've got a lot going on there..." And he sent me to a HORRIBLE physical therapist. There was no discussion about details and what area I should work on. And now I'm with Kaiser and they are taking care of me. If I was a poor horse, he probably would have put me "out to pasture." read more

Dr Botts came highly recommended by my Physical Therapist. He was a pleasure to have met and I really liked his interest and concern with my past history of my knees. To put it blatantly, this office sucks! I'm writing this as I've been on hold for 25 mins just waiting to find out if they ordered my brace from a week ago. Which they didn't. So after already waiting 2 weeks to get an appt for a broken wrist, then another week because someone didn't put in the authorization, I'm pissed. Not to mention, when I had my appt, the doctor was in the room for 5 minutes, didn't look at my wrist once (to make sure the er actually splinted it correctly), and barely even spoke to me. He didn't even address the pain and numbness I'm getting in my fingers and said it was most likely due to the position of the splint (um how about you check the damn thing to make sure it was on appropriately). I even had to ask for a new bandage because the other one had been on far too long. Now I'm not sure if they treated me this way because I'm an HMO patient or this is just the general way they practice but I won't be going back. In fact I've already scheduled for a second opinion. This is my hand we're talking about, I work with my hands for a living. I don't appreciate the lack of care and I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

I am a caregiver to a patient who has been in so much pain, he can no longer walk. Dr. Botts saw him and said he needs to get an ankle replacement. I have tried to reach this doctor for 3 weeks trying to get a response - nothing. He has not bothered to return calls and furthermore, he wont help us find a surgeon. I had a very painful knee injury exacerbated by a back injury. Dr Botts did a very cursory exam of my knee and told me that I had "exquisite" pain. He ordered 7 xrays of my knee and back and offered very little comment on the X-ray results. He then said get an MRI and come back. No help with temporary relief was offered, and he said "we will give you a sleeve for the knee." He left me in the exam room and left to attend to another patient. I tracked him down to ask if there were any restrictions on my activity and he replied "pain tolerance" should guide your activity. What pearls of wisdom! Normally I engage in very painful activities...... No diagnosis was given and no knee sleeve was provided just instructions from an impatient assistant to go buy one. I was handed paperwork for the sleeve that indicated the conditions as a torn medial meniscus. Couldn't I have been told that? I just happened to run across it on a form! My overall impression was that Dr Botts was disinterested with my agony and situation. When I spoke to the Office Manager, this AM she empathized with me agreeing the experience was unacceptable. She seemed rehearsed with her faux expression of regret leading me to think that this experience was the rule rather than the exception. I am now looking for another orthopedist. read more

horrible. absolutely horrible. the doctor himself is fine. but his staff is absolutely garbage. took em two weeks (after I called every single day) to submit a request to insurance for some imaging. but they submitted the wrong request and I ended up doing the wrong imaging. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. they'll ask you to come in for more appointments before the doctor even looks at your imaging just to charge your insurance even more. the staff is horrible. they'll put you on 20-minute holds and won't even follow up with anything. and then they'll hang up on you if you complain. very rude and unprofessional. see ANY other surgeon just cuz this surgeon's staff is utterly incompetent and irresponsible. read more

Dr. Botts was the third doctor I had visited with following a sports injury that led to a severe pinched nerve and extreme muscle spasms. He went above and beyond even prior to my actual appointment. His bed side manner is over the top . Knowing how much pain I was in, he put me on his schedule almost immediately and reviewed in detail my CT scan results educating me on everything the scan revealed. I also found his staff to be extremely caring and courteous which though they're not treating you, it still speaks highly of his office management and the care they provide to their patients. read more

Dr, Botts was anything BUT dismissive with me, despite what you may have read in another review. Our association began after I suffered injuries in a car accident and was taken to Sherman Oaks Hospital where Dr, Botts was on call in the ER. I had a ruptured patellar tendon and a dislocated kneecap. Despite my panic at what I'd been through, Botts easily calmed me down and explained exactly what was going to happen next. (He has an extremely soothing persona, and I truly felt "listened to," and like I was safe in his care. Post-surgery (10 weeks out!) we discovered my injury had not healed properly, and I would have to repeat the surgery. It's not clear whether the cause of this was carelessness on my part (too strenuously active?) or the result of a fault of the surgeon, but I made the decision to stick with Botts for the second go-round, this time in a full leg cast. Presently, I am making rapid progress towards full use of my knee, thanks to a successful second surgery. Throughout, the doctor has been variously kind, thorough in explaining things, and generous. He even took seriously my issues with opioid tolerance (I have ridiculously high tolerance due to some irresponsible pain management in the past), and I was prescribed a high enough dosage to assuage my post-op pain. The staff is, generally speaking, competent, if hard to reach. But watch out for Samina--she's tough! Tough but fair. The only beef I have is that Dr. Botts is only in the clinic two days a week, so scheduling can be an irritant. Go with him; Good surgeon, good guy. read more

After seeing my regular general practitioner and complaining about my shoulder, my GP told me no use to have an MRI because my insurance would never approve it, my GP did some simple exercises and said my shoulder seemed fine. I have excellent insurance, and I know an MRI would have been approved. I went to Dr. Botts and explained my pain to the point telling him I could barely use my arm, couldn't open a door, lift a glass or move a computer mouse. He proceeded with a cortisone shot as a first step of treatment. I appreciated that but returned to his office a week later telling him it didn't do the trick. He then ordered an MRI, it came back showing a bicep tendon tear. So shoulder surgery was scheduled, as it turns out I not only did I have had a bicep tendon tear but my rotator cuff was also torn which Dr. Botts repair both in surgery. I am beyond happy with the surgery, I have full range of motion in my shoulder and have 95% of my strength back and I'm back to lifting weights. Happy patient! read more

This morning I had my second visit with Dr. Botts. I have to say that I was very pleased with the outcome. He, and his friendly staff made me feel very comfortable, and assured me that I was going to be as good as new. Dr. Botts had set my mind at ease before, and as he was administering a large needle into my shoulder, he did it very painlessly and very quick. He was a real professional, and I highly recommend him 100%. My first visit with him, he took the time to explain everything that was going on with my MRI, and went into details letting me know about the damage I have in my shoulder. He sent me to a quality physical therapist as well. Vargo in Reseda. When I saw a different doctors for other damage I have had in the past with my knees, and hand, my other doctors do not compare with Dr. Botts. He will be my regular orthopedic doctor from now on. I had an incident where I hit a mirror and went to the ER just to get some stitches. Doctor came in and checked it out said nothing was broken so xrays were unnecessary, (I am not a doctor I don't really question them ever.) I had a lump and a lot of odd pain for the next week that would come only when something bumped that particular lump. Went to my own MD at Alta Medical and I was pretty much dismissed saying it would go down and if I had any other issues I'd have to see a specialists. When they failed to refer me to a hand specialists my wife found Dr. Botts so I went, when I told him what had happened he found it odd no one took xrays and asked for those immediately. He found and took out a chunk of glass almost the size of a dime. Had me come back in to monitor it. Dr. Botts and the practice were professional, efficient and straight to the point with everything. I will 100% refer him to anyone. read more

Dr. Botts is kind and knowledgeable. He did a great job on my ACL replacement. He is easy to talk to and took the time to answer all of my questions. Brittany, his surgical coordinator, has been so kind and helpful throughout the whole process. She is fantastic. Dr. Botts was dismissive of me and the chronic pain in my joints. He did refill my pain medication, but when I needed another refill, he did not respond to numerous phone calls and emails, causing me sudden withdrawl from narcotics without any guidance for weaning off, nor assistance in finding an alternative form of pain control. In addition, I asked him if he thought I might have Lyme disease, and he said no. Guess what? Turns out I have Lyme. No thanks to Dr. Botts! read more

Dr. Botts and his staff are REMARKABLE. Dr. Botts is the reason I am walking today with 2 legs! (my insurance company recommended amputation). After a horrible accident in 2015 that crushed my femur/knee/shoulder etc. I was initially treated by ucla & other orthos. However, my injury was complex & stubborn. Dr. Botts was courageous taking on the work of previous orthos, coming up with creative solutions that eventually allowed me to get out of a wheelchair/walker that i was bound to for nearly 2.5 years. His staff was as important as him! While he performed multiple surgeries on my leg, his staff was responsible for getting the approvals from insurance, writing appeals, and soothing my anxiety. This office is nothing short of a miracle! Whether it was answering my calls, rx's, confusion, insurance, surgery dates, EVERYONE was key to my current and continued success. Specifically Dr. B, Brittany Allen (i am asking the catholic church to name Brittany as a saint), Maria, Theresa, Hector(this man saved my leg by reading the xray correctly) Alejandra,and Diana. I cannot say enough good about these people. At my scariest moments it was the girls in the front that encouraged me to have faith. This office was/is a literally a miracle in my life. I would be happy to provide any additional information to other scared patients...edited addition..This surgeon is dedicated like no other, his dedication to his patients and medicine is evident in his actions. At one point scared if my insurance would allow me to continue under his care he said to me "apparently they did not get the memo, you are my patient" telling me he was committed to my care. I'm a first responder who brought in a patient today on a gurney who was 100 years old. This office had us waiting in the lobby nearly 40 minutes. (Yes we were on time) They failed to bother mentioning that they thought the gurney could not fit into the patient rooms so they were having us wait till a large room opened up. FYI-gurneys can collapse and fit into ANY patient room. Besides how do you think we got in the elevator??? Because the gurney collapses!! Meanwhile, everyone coming in after us is going back all the while they fail to communicate that they think there is a problem. Which they should have asked us if the gurney could fit or not. When me and my partner bring up the problem they are dismissive with some even saying ok ok and then turning their back and rolling their eyes. And on top of that, the Dr. walks in for less than 30 seconds, looks at the patients' leg and walks out. That's IT. Way to treat your patients and give them quality care, especially one who's 100 years old. read more

I have been bringing my mother in to Dr Botts who is approaching 90 years old.. She had fallen and broke her hip which required surgery through Sherman Oaks Hospital. Although I am so grateful she is ok I feel I need to share my experience so far with his office so that others won't be treated the same way and so poorly.. without going into too much information I just want to say her surgery was 9 months ago In the last 3 months she started suffering from pain in the area of the surgery and hip..By the way, it's very difficult to bring an elderly lady in a wheel chair to his office.. They made us come in only to tell us only that we need to go for another imaging. Really that was ridiculous when it could have been done over the phone. Even when we did come in to his office he still didn't address the fact to treat her Pain in anyway... and his lack of caring about her comfort really bothered me...I spoke up right there and asked if we could get our imaging done faster because she was in pain.. They called and arranged a quick imaging appt. once I had spoke up. I appreciated the fact that they got us such a quick appt.. same day we went for the imaging at University imaging in Sherman Oaks for a cat scan. After about an hour of taking images they decided that there machine was not working correctly so we were sent to their Tarzana office. This was back on Sept. 22nd.. I have been calling Dr Botts office since and cannot get a call back. I had left several messages (like 4 or 5 messages over 2 weeks..no response.. I finally spoke with someone named Debra and she assured me they would get back to me twice now and they hadn't as of yet. Last Thursday I spoke with Debra again and she assured me the Dr would call back.. I reminded Debra that my mom was in pain so really making her wait like this is cruel and not putting the patients best interest first..I have still not received a call from either Dr Botts not his office. I am really concerned and bothered by this... If they cannot take good care of their patients then maybe they shouldn't have patients.. Absolutely terrible treatment.. inadequate and neglectful.. I do not recommend this office or Dr. I will be taking my mom elsewhere where she can get the care she deserves. read more
