I was actually ecstatic about my consultation - I wouldn't be commuting all the way from Surrey if I wasn't. That being said, yesterday at my consultation, she was degrading, patronizing, and didn't address the concern I came to her with - laser hair removal. From the get-go all she spoke of was my acne. How bad my acne is. How I can do this, that, and the third to fix it. I sat there listening, knowing what my skin and body are capable of anyway. She did go into depth about hair removal, but didn't address MY OWN hair growth or hair problems. Furthermore, what REALLY threw me off from the entire consultation was what she said to me. She said to me that when I walk out of her doors, I become her client and I represent her business. And she can't have me looking the way that I do (whatever patronizing thing that means) representing her, because it will affect her business negatively. She ended it by saying "we have to fix you head to toe" and my friend who came along with me can vouch for this. I for one am not only looking for a laser hair removal technician, but someone who makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. Hearing additional words such as "we don't just want to be average, we want to be perfect or the best" doesn't really warrant innate confidence, which I have been lacking anyway due to my skin. I understand Kam may have had good intentions and wanted to help, but I felt ridiculed. I had often heard and read that if all else fails, IPL and chemical peels were viable options for sufferers of KP. Upon arrival, the doctor had one look at my arms and insisted that I had seborrheic keratosis, and not KP. She then insisted that what would truly be effective for me was their laser for pigmented lesions, called the GentleMax Pro. I was a bit skeptical about this, so she suggested that we try the laser once during the consultation on a small patch on my arm. I figured it was worth a shot, and agreed to it. Now here's the interesting part: as she prepared the room and let the laser heat up, she took another look at my arms and decided that since I'm not a white girl, I would be able to handle more heat, and proceeded to increase the intensity level of the laser. I genuinely wish I had walked out of the room in that moment. Instead, I went through what was potentially the most painful laser therapy in my life (I literally felt like my skin was on fire), and was in serious pain for a good two days afterwards. The result? The patch on my arm scabbed over completely, and two months later today, I still have the scars from that session. And guess what? The bumps from my KP? Yup, still there. For anyone reading this who truly values the look of their skin, please avoid this place completely. I am in serious doubt of the capabilities of the "doctor" who works at this location, and genuinely hope that no one else has to endure what I did.
