I came across some negative reviews on Dr. Oloff in this billboard. Many appeared to misunderstand…read morehim or his practice. I have not seen him for over 15 years but must say He is probably the honest and most experienced surgeon. I hurt my ankle in skiing and became limping in walking. I saw at least 10 doctors specialized in sports medicine, including a few from Stanford and for famous athletes. All had the same solution, bone crafting. I finally decided on one surgeon and asked him if he would recommend a doctor to consult one more last time. He recommended Dr. Oloff and was confident that Dr. Oloff would recommend the same procedure. After reviewing the X films, believe it or not, he said only one sentence; there was no way to fix my ankle to perfect even with bone crafting. I asked what he would do, "I could remove the symptom (limping) to let you walk normally but the injured bone is there forever". With an advanced degree in engineering, I listened to his very brief explanation but was fully convinced from a physics perspective. He performed a microscopic surgery on my ankle and even handed me a video of his operation. Avoided two big cuts, no more limping for the last 25 years, but certainly I wouldn't be able to race 400- or 800 meters again. Still hiking, ball playing for a limited time. I went back to see him again about 10 years after the surgery because of occasional pain. After looking at the X films, he said "I have a $100 solution and a $10k solution". He explained both and I chose the $100 solution. I spent less than $10 and overcome the pain. Being a surgeon, he did not promote surgery every time. I since referred a few to him, he did no surgery on all of them. He even knows which pharmacist to make a special formula cream to treat a bone pain (my wife gets full recovery with an Oloff cream on her dancing feet). I think it would be a huge loss if he is not sought to be a professor at a medical school. Busy with his schedule, he doesn't say too much but all his patients, please listen to him carefully, he is definitely a unique and amazing surgeon in the universe.

He didn't recommend I have my vitamin D level checked, and it turns out my level was low and this would inhibit bone healing. After diagnosing my sesamoid injury, he immediately launched into talking about removing one sesamoid, if that didn't work removing the other sesamoid, and then how removing both sesamoids could require fusing the big toe joint. When I said I would like to fully explore conservative care, all he could recommend was to wear a boot. I learned far more about conservative care from Dr. Richard Blake's online blog posts. Dr. Oloff is an example of a doctor who is racing between appointments and seems to be trying to get out the door soon after walking in. I highly recommend seeing a different podiatrist.

He repaired all of this and my foot looks and feels great. I have an arch in this foot for the first time and almost no scarring. He had a very kind and gentle bedside manner. My recovery went well with very limited swelling based on the procedures he applied. I couldn't be happier with the results. I had this same surgery on my other foot twenty years prior and the surgery was so excruciating, it took me 20 years to even think about having it done again. The results on the first foot were not all that great either. I was referred to Dr. Widtfeldt by a coworker who had severe rheumatoid arthritis which began for her at the age of 3. Dr. Widtfeldt worked on both of her feet and this allowed her to wear normal shoes and walk with no pain. I highly recommend Dr. Widtfeldt to anyone who has issues with their feet.

I can't say enough about Stanford Orthopedics from the office folks all the way up to surgeons, you won't find better care and consistency of excellent care. My ankle fusion was done by Dr. Loretta Chou. She is fantastic; other surgeons in my area said they would need to do 5 surgeries over several years. Dr. Chou told me "40 minutes". That was 8 years ago. I'm doing fine. Hips are good. I'm back to doing the activities I enjoy. Stanford has the best staff if you must have surgery. They are very conservative and go to great lengths to make sure you make the right choices to be your best self. Couldn't recommend them more. If you have to stay in the hospital, it is brand new and state of the art; incredible facility. You'll get some sleep there because they try not to bother you nonstop all night long like they do in other hospitals.

Unfortunately, from December 5th onwards, I experienced significant complications. My left foot swelled, and the wound continued to have discharge for three months, with unabsorbed stitches appearing every month. I was very worried about my condition, but Dr. Saxena showed no concern or interest in my situation. He just simply advised me to clean my wound at home using Alcohol Pre pad every night, and told me this tendon recovery normally need to take 5-6 months. In February, I requested a referral to the Stanford Advance Wound Care, but Dr. Saxena refused to provide it. I was extremely disappointed and felt that he lacked medical ethics. Dr. Saxena seemed more interested in promoting his surgical skills and reputation than providing quality care to his patients. He frequently mentioned that he performed the most surgeries in the Bay Area and that my case was only 1% of his many operations. This dismissive attitude made me feel very unsupported during my recovery. Additionally, when I expressed an interest in learning more about Achilles tendon surgery, Dr. Saxena repeatedly directed me to his website rather than taking the time to explain the procedure to me himself. In summary, I found Dr. Saxena to be a doctor who prioritized surgery over patient care. If given the chance, I would never seek his services again. Thankfully, I was able to find a second doctor at a different wound care clinic who was able to help me with my chronic wound without needing a referral.

Found Dr Harrison via Zocdoc, and had I come across this Yelp page, wouldn't have thought twice…read moreabout booking with him based on the previous Yelp reviews. Our first appt was first week of Oct 2023. I went in with ankle pain, and he diagnosed it as overpronation. I think that's accurate, but havent yet gotten a second opinion. He told me custom orthotics would fix this. His assistant would check on my insurance coverage ahead of next appt. He was running behind schedule, but that's typical at medical practices. He gave me a good amount of time/attention and explained things thoroughly... My follow up appt was the following week to get molds for my custom orthotics. While his assistant called to confirm the appt, she did not update me that my insurance would not cover the orthotics. In first appt, I was led to believe they would run ~$400. At my second appt, I excitedly showed him my recently purchased insoles, asking for his expert thoughts, given his 25+ years experience. And of course seeking validation that I chose good ones. He gave me no validation, simply stating "good for you" and when asked several times for his opinion, he said he will not comment on anything but custom, bc that's "what I sell". So it seems he is a sales person. Not an expert on podiatry. I get that he might not know as much about alternatives, but this was frustrating. If he doesn't sell the product, he'll hardly acknowledge they exist. So is he really solving the issue, or simply pushing a product? Next, he dramatically showed me a piece of paper his assistant filled out that referred to my insurance coverage. He said that I am not covered, and that he charges $850 for the uninsured. My jaw dropped, I asked him what about the $400 range discussed, and he said again, very calmly, matter-of-fact, "I charge $850". So, in (not) my best moment, I stood up and quietly left his office. I imagine this happens often, and I figured best to share my experience so other people will not waste their time here.
