This place came highly recommended for authentic burgers and fries. From the outside it may look a bit shabby, tucked away on a corner, but step inside and you'll find a cosy atmosphere--and long queues that say it all. The burgers were huge and tasted fantastic, and the fries came in generous portions. The kids especially enjoyed a proper Sunday meal that didn't feel mass-produced, but rather locally made with care. Service is counter-based, so there isn't much to comment on there--you order and pick up yourself. Bottom line: big portions, great taste, and a very satisfied family. We would happily go back again and again!

The #1 Jons Classic

Instagram really sells this place. I was excited to try Jon's joint but left underwhelmed. Walked in on a Saturday Afternoon and the wait time wasn't long at all. I talked to the cashier and he advised I get the #1 Classic. Even told me I wouldn't be disappointed. I took him up on his offer. I added the combo for $5. I must say, $2 for a can soda is NUTS. My food came out and everything was hot. They give a large serving of fries which was a plus. They have old bay seasoning on the counter which definitely gave the fries some flavor. Onto the burger. Extremely fat patty on a tiny potato bread bun. The patty is so big and flat that it was kinda dried out. The bacon was solid. Overall it's a decent experience but not worth the hype at all. I see why this place is a tiny whole in the wall with limited signage.

Absolutely loved this place best Smashburger I've had in a long time!!! my favorites were the classic and the juicy Lucy. I also really liked the spicy jalapeño burger. Fries were also incredible and service was super friendly. Hope to return soon!

Decent smash burger but not my favorite in the area. I ordered the Classic (standard with American cheddar, lettuce, onion, tomato - hold the sauce). The patty is a bit thin and flattened a bit too much - it was the size of a pancake and overtook my tiny bun! And the way they smashed it made the meat a tad dry. The toppings seemed to be an afterthought and smeared on there. The price isn't bad for a burger at $8.95, and if you level up to a combo, you get a drink and fries. Fries were soft and unsalted. I had to douse it with old bay and malted vinegar for extra flavor. My partner ordered a chocolate shake that came with whipped cream and stripes of chocolate syrup, which was tasty! The service staff seemed disconnected and pushed for us to order faster. The night we went they were playing a UFC fight on pay per view, and a whole slew of guys came to watch with the TV turned up pretty loud. Seems cool if you're going out with the guys. But pretty loud and hard to chat, if you're looking for place to catch up with friends while eating (which was what I was doing). My favorite smash burger is still Joia burger in the city. But this will do if you're in Arlington!

#2 OKC Burger combo

Visiting a restaurant for the first time and having a great experience is fine, but consistency is what really matters. I went to Jon's Joint recently and decided to dine it to see what that experience was like. I ordered the OKC burger combo and it was just as fantastic as the first time I had it. - juicy and well seasoned beef with crispy pillowy fries. You can tell that they've improved their packaging with their own branding. There was plenty of seating. The service could be a bit friendlier but I'm willing to accept kind of a cold presence from the person taking my order in exchange for great food. All that to say that Jon's Joint is my go to burger spot in the area.

Been craving a smashburger and wanted to try this place out. Saw something in Instagram that was mouth watering. Knew my next post office visit would weaken my will power. So glad it weakened. I got a single without a pickle. And a side of fries. It was perfect!!! Oh so good. Maybe next time I'll try the double. Fries were crispy and good too. I just got water with it and not the combo with soda which is the same price (I don't drink soda). There is a wait as they make everything fresh. But worth the wait! Tables were clean. Place had a steady turnover. Loved the decor. Will definitely return!!! Next PO trip!

Solid food. Service is fair, and the setting is like a hole-in-the-wall burger joint. Not a bad thing. And great for hanging with friends. You'll order at the counter, with tables to eat at. I ordered the OKC burger. Decent for an Oklahoma burger, but could use a little more char in my opinion. My son had the smash over fries, which he enjoyed. And my wife the jalapeño burger. All in all worth checking out.

Came in @5:45pm after work. The place was bustling. There was a steady flow of patrons while we were dining in. Plenty of seating for dining in. The place isn't quite divvy but it's teetering. Aroma of was strong, to me. Maybe it's the grilled smash burgers. SO didn't smell anything. First time here so I had a few questions and they were promptly answered before we placed our order and grabbed a table. I ordered a single patty OKC and customized it with cheddar cheese, pickled jalapeños, beef bacon and house made sauce in the side. SO ordered a three patty Juicy Lucy, no customization. We both agreed the patties and fries needed seasoning but we liked the texture of the house ground patties. Would have also liked bibb lettuce opposed to shredded. Ingredients were fresh. The beef bacon was good but the fat wasn't rendered out enough so it was chewy not crispy. We left smelling like the grill, smokey...not pleasant on the drive home.

Solid smash burgers!! I had a craving for a burger so came by with my boyfriend. We each got their classic smashburgers and shared their loaded chicken fries. We agreed the burgers were probably the best we've had in the area. Next time I'll definitely try their jalapeno one. The fries were good and definitely worth it for all the chicken they put on it. A little pricey but would still get again. Service was okay, friendly enough. Ambiance is super casual. Probably more of a takeout spot but they do have casual seating.

Walked in on a Saturday around 5pm, only one person in line but as I waited for my food about ten people came in. Ordered 3 burgers, one as a combo for $5 which includes fries and a can soda. The fries were big enough to share in my opinion. Also ordered the smash over fries which was fantastic. The toppings were well spread out and layered so every bite was equally good. It's located on the corner, next to townhouses, with plenty of parking. Aesthetic is retro but simple, its giving family owned. I think it's owned by two friends or brothers?!

TL;DR: Spectacular smash burgers and other halal eats like loaded fries. Jon's Joint is a newer restaurant serving up halal eats including their specialty, smash burgers. They also have other items such as chicken sandwiches and loaded fries. Food: Smash burgers--You can custom order your own smash burger or get one of their specials. I tried the Juicy Lucy which was stuffed with cheddar cheese, and true to its name, was super juicy. I also had the Jalapeño Burger which had a TON of jalapeños and wasn't overly spicy. Loaded fries--Seriously loaded! They come smothered in their house sauce and a cheese sauce. I added a chopped smash burger. Would def get again! Vibes: Chill and easy-going. Lots of places to sit inside if you dine-in. Parking: There's a few spots out front. Parking wasn't an issue.

I loved all the pop culture art and decor & they were playing a great alt rock playlist! With only a line of like 10 people ahead of us, it took nearly 40 minutes to get our food. The actual beef patties were very good and it's halal beef. We also tried the loaded fries and an Oreo shake - I'd skip on the loaded fries next time but the portion was huge. Oreo shake was pretty good too.

FOOD I had their juicy Lucy, and my boyfriend tried their jalapeño burger-- each with a side of fries and a soda for an additional $5. Both burgers were delicious, though we were glad to have gotten the double patty as a single would have been quite small in ratio with the buns and onions. The fries were also a bit of a letdown as they got soggy/stale quite quickly. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly, and the burgers are made to order. Condiments are available by the soda fridge and include mustard, mayo, ketchup, BBQ sauce, and hot sauces. A bathroom is available inside the store. AMBIANCE Ample seating is available inside the store with tables for 2-4. PARKING Limited parking is available in front of the store that is shared with the neighboring CVS. Side parking is reserved for residents of the nearby apartment complex.

On our way back to McLean from Baltimore almost a year and a half ago, I met an uncle at a masjid…read morewho told me that NOVA was home to one of the finest halal BBQ experiences around. I promised I'd check it out. Today, I finally made it happen -- and brought my son along, who enjoys a good piece of meat just as much as I do! The owner, Mohsin, was in Kenya following up on their orphanage initiative, but the staff took great care of us. First, a little tip: If you're driving by, you might easily miss the place! Hal & Al's is tucked away on the basement level beneath True Food Kitchen, in a food-court-style setting. Don't let the location fool you, though -- the food is something else! We ordered two Duno ribs, a bottle of Coke, mac and cheese, dirty fries, and, naturally, had to finish with apple pie, churros, and ice cream. Yes, we went all in! And WOW -- what a feast! The meat was tender, packed with that deep, smoky BBQ flavor, and absolutely delicious. Pair it with the pickles, creamy mac and cheese, and their BBQ dipping sauce, and the combination was off the charts. The dirty fries deserve a shout-out of their own. That crispy texture and incredible flavor made them dangerously easy to eat all by themselves! And dessert? The contrast between the warm apple pie and churros and the cold ice cream sent our taste buds into overdrive. My son and I were practically debating which part of the meal deserved the crown. But the best review came from my son himself: "That's the best meat I've ever tasted!" Coming from a young man who knows his meat, that says a lot! What makes the place even more special is that a percentage of the proceeds supports an orphanage in Kenya. Great food, warm service, and a meaningful cause -- a combination worth supporting. Verdict: Hal & Al's is officially on my list for whenever that halal BBQ craving hits. If you're in NOVA and love proper smoked meat, do yourself a favor and check this place out. Just remember to look downstairs -- and come hungry!

Was excited to eat here after reading the great reviews!…read more We ordered the waffle with mesquite chicken, the portion was unbelievably small. Picture doesn't do it justice, it looks huge in the picture. We were very disappointed about the size but it also tasted pretty bad. The chicken was not to our liking so we ended up not eating this dish. The Mc Bowl with brisket was amazing but the price was steep too! The jalapeño cornbread was decent. Overall it was an ok-ish meal.

You get more than your money's worth at Kabob Palace, and we are not talking a lot of money. This is a 24-7 Afghan kebab place that serves life giving food at any hour of the day. * * * Kabob Palace has gotten awards from nearly every newspaper and community magazine that writes about food in the Beltway. Washington has a lot of columnists who write about food in the Beltway. These are knowledgeable columnists who know their international food. They rave about Kabob Palace. These are knowledgeable raves. I rave about Kabob Palace. There are huge lines to get in the door. Presumably the customers rave about Kabob Palace. That is a whole lot of people doing a whole lot of raving. * * * I am sure the food critics and the Northern Virginia night eaters are not there to rave about the scenery. I certainly do not rave about the scenery. Kabob Palace is fluorescent lights. Kabob Palace is cheap tables, close to nearly everyone else eating in the restaurant. There is a TV where you can watch Central Asian sporting events. It is set up so the staff can see it rather than the customers. You will crane your neck to follow the game. * * * The food makes the lines and the fluorescent lights totally worthwhile. The menu is medium sized but fairly predictable. You have seen everything here in other Kabob places you have eaten in. They have a few cafeteria serving dishes of pilau. There are also mixed vegetables, and some curried items. Almost everything else comes off the grill or out of their Afghan bread baking oven. What comes off the grill is absolutely sensational. What comes out of the oven is pretty darn good. What comes out of the cafeteria serving dishes is less wonderful. BUT The serving dish stuff is made very interesting by super outstanding house sauces. * * * I did a bone-in chicken kebab that was marinated in an absolutely outstanding spice mix. I sat and marveled at the spices with every single bite. A grim looking spinach and potatoes had a coriander yogurt sauce that was the Taylor Swift of all yogurt sauces. Okay - we are going Afghan here. So it was the Ahmad Zahir of all yogurt sauces. The chicken was too good for me to want to mix it with anything. The spinach and the Afghan bread offered plenty of opportunity for the coriander yogurt sauce to do its thing. People who have read my other reviews know that in general I despise coriander. When I tell you that a coriander sauce is food for the gods, that is like Alexandra Ocasio Cortez telling you about a Wonderful Republican. This yogurt sauce really really is that good. * * * The fun does not stop at the end of the main course. They do a rice pudding for dessert. Afghans, like Iranians, are known for exceptional rice cooking. Afghan rice pudding is better than rice pudding rice pudding. Rice pudding in the hands of the British or in the hands of mid-century Yankee cooks is grim stuff. It is the only dessert I have ever heard James Beard complain about. I share James Beard's assessment entirely. This Afghan rice pudding is nothing like the flavorless grainy custards of my youth. The pudding is mild, but it is quintessential comfort food. Even though I had had that amazing chicken and that amazing coriander sauce, As I walked home, the only flavor on my mind was the rice pudding. I was like a small child who had just been taken care of by Mommy and was now getting in my jammies for bed. Desserts that make you feel happy are a good thing. * * * There are not very many places where you can sit at 2:30 in the morning under fluorescent lights and have an experience that makes you completely happy. Fluorescent lights at 2:30 in the morning usually means going to Walgreens or CVS in the middle of the night. I am currently writing this review at 2:08 in the morning. I am in Austin, Texas. If Kabob Palace was anywhere within driving distance of my house, I would not be in my house right now. I would have gotten in my car about 1:30 and would have driven to Kabob Palace. I would have had to drive and I would have had to wait 20 minutes in line. After eating, I would still have to drive home. This is midnight food that is so good That a 72 year old man would take two hours out of his sleep time just to get his plateful. Kabob Palace is something else.
