First time for me to try Nigerian food. I sampled the pounded yam fufu, which is popular in West African countries. It is also considered one of what they called "swallow foods", which is often served with soups and stews. To go with it I sampled the Efo Riro soup. It is predominantly a Spinach stew type of soup. This is a native soup of the Yoruba people of South West Nigeria and other parts of Yorubaland. The two vegetables most commonly used to prepare the soup are Celosia argentea and Amaranthus hybridus. The name is derived from the Yoruba language and loosely translated to "stirred leafy greens." The spinach available in West Africa tends to be a little different: it has larger leaves, and it's a bit heartier. I will come back and try other dishes next time. read more

The chicken egusi soup and fufu was absolutely delicious & flavorful! The woman working at the cash register was very sweet and does not spend much time up front so be sure to ring the bell as needed. Mixed Experience It wasn't bad--it was just different. Everything was spicy, but it was spicy without much flavor, which was a bit disappointing. The fufu was good--that was the highlight. The gumbo had a lot of unexpected bones, which made it hard to enjoy. This restaurant came highly recommended by my Pedicure technician Lola who is also Nigerian. First I was greeted by the server with a warm welcome and a beautiful smile and then she told me how much I was going to enjoy my meal. My food was fresh and hot, well portioned, and flavored with lots of love. The food was so delicious that I called and spoke with the owner who was very appreciative and humble. I'm not sure what happened but these aren't the flavors i first experienced my first time at this restaurant. It tasted mostly like oil and spice. It definitely needed more seasoning. Same thing with the chicken. I got my favorite, efo riro w/chicken however it definitely lacked flavor. I was looking forward to it since i hadn't been in a while. I also got chin chin which is a Nigerian snack. The Efo riro was definitely my favorite out of the entire meal. I didn't expect to enjoy the catfish as much as I did to be honest. The catfish was soft, flaky, and well seasoned. I was quite apprehensive to taste catfish because I'm usually a snapper person, but overall I would get it again. The snapper, jollof, plaintain was quite nice. The snapper was well seasoned & the jollof reminded me of spicy tomato flavored seasoned rice. Every meal I had was SPICY, so if you're not into spicy this isn't for you! The chin chin snack was very interesting also, it reminded me of hard flour cookies with no sugar. Now, i'm not sure if they've had to cut serving sizes because of inflation or what but you get a small portion of food. Maybe it's because we got it to go? Even so, the serving size should be equal whether i'm dining in or not because i'm still paying the same price. Think of one of those small milk cartons you used to get in elementary school, but smaller and round. Anyway, I digress. I ordered the egusi(?) soup with pounded yam and it was good for my first time trying it. If you're picky but want to try something new, I would say to get this to go since it is a small portion of food. The cashier was nice and the place was clean and well organized. Been wanting to check this place out for a while and we finally went. The food has excellent flavors, if you're used to chicken nuggets and burgers this isn't the place for you. I would say Jollof Pot is for the culinary adventurers, and people who like bold flavors who can enjoy Nigerian cuisine. The fufu is a stickier version of mashed potatoes not flavored it's used as a binding for the spinach soup and Chicken as it's eaten with your hands. Also , their spinach soup is pretty spicy but good as well as the chicken. Next time I go I will try the Okro soup. Overall I would return it's good for a quick lunch or dinner no need to get fancy, and the two people working there were helpful in guiding us on what to decide. This food was so freaking good!!!! It was so flavorful!!! I don't do well with spicy, but it was so delectable I took my chances and powered through. I cannot wait to go back for some more!!!! This was my first time visiting an African restaurant. I figured the service wouldn't be up to par. Typically when visiting Caribbean restaurants (let's say Jamaican) they always have attitude and are impatient. So I was not surprised when I got the same type of treatment from the lady at the counter. I will say she did attempt to explain some things as best she could. I'd say you have a three question minimum before the irritation starts. It's okay though because the food was AMAZING. Now that I know what's what there's no need to ask questions the next time I go in. I just wish people would be friendlier. Especially knowing it's a customers first time there! Moving along though! The restaurant itself could be more appealing to the eyes. It looked a bit junky behind the counter. The seating area was fine though. This was my first time eating at jollof pot but not my first time eating African food. I ordered the Egusi (w/ assorted meats) and pounded yam as my swallow . Let's start off w/ the portion size.. it was so small and there was no meat in my plate. All bones . At first glance I thought it was all meat but nope again, all bones and a giant piece of cow skin. The little meat that I had was tough and chewy. The flavor of the meat Egusi was very salty. I've had Egusi before and it was not like this. I expected a lot more from jollof pot especially from reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp. Maybe I dined in on a bad day or maybe I should try to dine in earlier in the day. read more

Outside of beautiful foreign women, I always welcome new ethnic cuisine in South Florida. Unlike the east or west coast, we're about 40 years behind in culinary diversity. So I was excited when I did a random yelp search for the term "African", and Jollof Pot popped up. Even better it's only 10 minutes away from me, unlike other hard to find ethnic cuisine clustered in the Lauderhill area. When I walked in I saw imported Nigerian drinks, frozen cooked foods, and few Nigerian snacks. While I was waiting to ask the woman behind the counter questions. I overheard her Nigerian customers saying whenever they come to Miami they always stop in to get food. Once I was able to talk to the friendly woman, she told me more about the menu and the varying offerings & combos. She also mentioned they had been open for about a year. I ordered Jollof rice, chicken, plantains, and I also bought palm juice, something that I didn't even know that existed. Once I arrived home I put the palm juice in a large cup of ice and started grubbing. The chicken was a little lukewarm, but it was divine, I loved how spicy it was with the thick reddish gravy. I always enjoy jollof rice when I can get my hands and it definitely didn't disappoint. If I could give them a negative star I would. They have an EXTREMELY disrespectful and rude older woman working there. I'm not sure if she's the owner or just the cook, but her customer service skills are DEPLORABLE. I ordered a party tray of Jollof Rice for my birthday event that was happening on a Sunday. She told me that they aren't open on Sunday, but if I come before 2pm to pick up the food everything will be set. I text her an hr before I show up on Sunday that I'll be there at 1pm. I get there at 12:58pm just to be SCREAMED that they weren't open, as I walk in the unlocked door. I calmly tell her my name and my order to diffuse the situation, yet she continues to yell that I need to text her before showing up..... which I already did. When I finally get my food, it's not properly wrapped or secured. Not to mention she and whomever her assistant was had their bare feet on the floor the whole time and had filthy clothes on. I really wanted to like them to support my fellow Naija people. But everything they did that day soured my viewpoint of them drastically. Hope they change their ways for the future. read more

It was our (my two sons and I) first time trying African cuisine we enjoyed every bit of it. We had the egusi with fish. The egusi and fish had a just the right amount of spice it was delicious. I also ordered the seafood gumbo I wanted to eat the gumbo at the restaurant, but unfortunately it was cold and couldn't be warmed at the restaurant. Our overall experience was delightful. I have had jollof before from a take out restaurant in Miami and it left me underwhelmed. The one from Jollof Pot hands down is the best so far. I see why it is so popular now. It has a smokey profile, not burnt though. I went close to closing and they were still pretty busy- a good sign. Really like that they have popular items ready to go and even though it was busy, service was quick and very courteous. The lady serving up the food talks to you like you know each other forever. I loved that really. Efo Riro- 5/5 so crazy good. It's a spinach stew with peppers and crayfish. Perfect little spicy kick and such a good side for the rice. I had it w chicken because at the time it was the only meat option. The menu does have the option of catfish and mixed meats as well. They also do mixed combos! So if you want to try a variety of items, that is an option. Will be returning to try other menu items for sure. read more

They have a variety on the menu and the food is already prepared....We had the following below: Fufu and Egusi Soup - Melon seeds and a variety of fresh African spices, dried fish, stock fish cooked in palm oil, garnished with spinach, pumpkin/bitter leaf. Fufu Fufu is dough-like food made from fresh or fermented cassava...Very soft and you normally eat with soup/stews. -- Delicious soup....Very flavorful. Pan Fried Red Snapper, Jollof Rice and Moimoi. -- The first time that I had Nigerian jollof rice it tasted like Mexican rice to me. I was confused BUT this time the jollof was on POINT! I tasted the signature smoky flavor of this self prescribed party rice. Authentic jollof rice. The snapper was well seasoned however semi hard b/c it was already prepared and just sitting in the pot. The moimoi is a Nigerian steamed bean pudding made from a mixture of peeled black-eyed beans, onions, hot pepper, fresh ground red peppers and a hard boiled egg in the middle. There aren't very many Nigerians restaurants in the Miami area. Currently there are 2 others that are known to me. Jollof pot wasn't hard to find, placed in the newly built shopping complex off the turnpike. The restaurant is really clean and spacious. Good for entertaining. I ordered off the menu and was able to change the meal to my preference. I ordered jollof rice, plantains and assorted meat consisting of cow feet and Turkey. The food didnt take long to plate, very hot and fresh. The staff was very welcoming and nice. The owner is the cook and entertains the guest. Prices weren't bad either. I ate for roughly $11+tax. It was her first time there and she was navigating the menu and was rushed and spoken to in a deeply insensitive way. She will not be returning to Jollof Pot which is unfortunate because the food is really authentic and we love to support our Black owned businesses and community members but the service didn't match the food quality. Decided to come here with my family after craving Egusi and Jollof. We got there about 30 or so mins before closing. Good amount of customers. The owner was letting us know she was making more chicken. Almost everybody got their orders to go. We were going to do the same but the owner let us stay to eat even though it was closing time. So generous ! Now the food. We ordered the Egusi, Okra Soup, and Chicken with Jollof. It was amazing. It had a little kick which I loved. My husband loved his Okra soup. My 2yr old had a bowl of jollof to herself and loved it. We took home small containers of Plantains and Gizzards. Delicious ! The food and the service were top notch.
