WOW! The best shave ice I've had in my life. I got the lilo & stitch & the makai. Both phenomenal. I did prefer the makai over lilo & stitch but both great options. The ice cream at the bottom ties all the flavors perfectly. We went twice during our trip. The first time someone in my party got the lilo & stitch with coconut ice cream instead of the vanilla. The second time, he ordered the same thing but the cashier (different from the first time) said he couldn't swap out the flavor of the ice cream. We thought the was weird. Jojos shave ice was absolutely phenomenal! They have an incredible assortment of diffrent flavor combos such as Rainbow, Root Beer, and Pina Colada (My personal favorite). The location that my party attended was very convenient and pretty, and the ambiance was very fun with a lively vibe. The service itself was wonderful, friendly, and fast considering there was a long, overwhelming line. The shaved ice itself was really refreshing, and the personal touch of putting vanilla ice cream at the bottom is so creative and yummy. This location is in a little shopping center and is conveniently located right off the parking lot. It's a cute little stand with some unique flavors and large portions. Large meaning they only come in either 28 oz or 40 oz making it ideal for sharing. I went with the Locals South Shore and have to say it was very good and the Mac nut ice cream at the bottom was a great addition and left me wanting more. The prices range from about $9-12 depending on size and while that's a little more than I'm used to, it is decent for the size and remembering that this is located in a tourist area. There are a lot of cute shops in Hanalei when you are driving back from hiking the Napali Coast Trail. Jojo's had a good line in front of it, and an extensive menu of shave ice. I probably chose the wrong flavor (coffee). It didn't have much flavor, and I would choose a different one if I could do it again. Ice cream at the bottom of shave ice is a must for me, so it was good to get that, but as someone else said, not too flavorful. After you do a hike, shave ice is a good treat. Well, we were looking for some shave ice after leaving the Hanalei bread company for after lunch snack. He stopped in at JoJo Shave ice across the street at the Ching Young Village Shopping Center; right next to chicken and a barrel. I chose this place because from what I read they use cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. I neglected to verify that, but I will next time. There were picnic table seating for anyone dining in the area and a few counter seating right there in front of JoJo's where we sat. The young man that took our order was very pleasant and friendly. I ordered "Da small" A Lotta Colada w/ PINA', STRAWBERRY' & VANILLA' COLADA flavors and Haupia (coconut) cream for $7.99. All comes with some vanilla ice cream at the bottom. My hubby ordered Da Small Makai w/ COCONUT & PINEAPPLE flavors. For a small they are pretty nice size. They had a lot of flavor. Melted in your mouth. I found mine melted faster because it was in the sun in the cup. But my husband did not. We were entertained by chicken and her family up eight little ones. This is our 4th visit to Hanalei and a stop at Jojo's used to be a must. The last time we were here you could order custom flavors and they didn't all have ice cream. We assumed the haupia ice cream was dairy free but apparently not. So we ordered 2 different preset flavors and asked for no ice cream. What we got for $10 each was a little bit of ice that was only half covered with some syrup. The middle and bottom was just plain ice in both cups. Such a waste of money. Pretty solid shave ice! My girl and I were craving for a shave ice since landing from our flight. We found this joint in a tourist plaza. It is smack in the middle of the plaza, which is a great spot for business. The ambiance is always busy and the servers are always friendly. The lady that accommodates us recommended a lilikoi (local fruit) and guava combination. It was outstanding! I'm on vacation in Kauai right now. We've got shaved ice every day. The best buy hand was from Jojo's. I ordered a a loda calada and it was the best thing I've ever tasted. I don't even like coconut and the coconut cream on top was so delicious. The ice cream in the middle was game changing there wasn't a splash of ice that wasn't doused in syrup. It was so delicious and if I ever come back to Hawaii, I will be going there right away. no need to say the lines were very long because of the amazing and viral taste that is Jojo's but don't fear their service is fast and amazing and well worth the wait.
