Had a bit of downtime during the pandemic so I relearned how to drive. I had 8 lessons total and two instructors (6 with one of them). I've had instructors in the past and they were not good as these guys. They corrected my bad habits and encouraged me to get my license. I passed and got my N. Thanks again. The cars they typically use are 2007 Corollas. Very easy to handle and common car really. read more

I highly recommend any new learners to learn driving here. I took their GLP course and passed my N test the first try. I was not accustomed to the rules and regulations in Canada, but my lessons with Gord were nothing but helpful, constructive and supportive. He analyzed everything that happened on the road to teach you how to make the best judgements, and pointed out all the mistakes I made in a way that was constructive and easy to learn from. Relika, their office administrator, was also super friendly, responded quick and scheduled all my lessons based on my requests. 10/10 recommend! read more

I would not recommend. As per driving regulations it is not advisable to drive when u r not feeling good but as per this school you need to give 48 hours of notice to cancel a lesson or else they charge you 25$. Can anyone tell me that fever would give a student 48 hours notice so that they can be well prepared to inform the school well in advance. I feel stuck. I did not find them friendly at all. It is all about them. If you are new Lerner then better research before investing in them. You need a school who would be humane enough to think that teaching is a noble profession and not just making money. read more

Had two boys go through Johnston's. This is a hard rating to give. Instructors get 4.5-5 stars. Experienced, knowledgeable, calm. Admin/organization gets 1 star. Lessons we booked were no shows because of admin scheduling errors. Neither of my sons received their pre-test warm ups because of scheduling errors. Emails, phone confirmations mean nothing. Instructors are left being juggled around, making up for missed bookings or scheduling errors. It's not their fault! Admin made so many mistakes with us that we were comped several lessons, but since I can't be sure an instructor will actually show - regardless of their complete competence - I will not be using this company again. The instructor was late in bringing me back to ICBC Centre for the road test. As a result, the staff and examiner asked why I was late for the road test. After writing a complaint letter to the driving school, they did not admit their mistakes, and refused to refund a portion of the fee. From my experience, once they accept the payment, they won't provide a good quality of service. read more

I purchased an 8 lesson package from johnstons driving school and was extremely disappointed. I had two different instructors before and I felt neither of them were approachable. I don't doubt that their instructors are highly qualified, however they did not offer the support that somebody completely new to driving needs. Additionally the cars used at johnstons driving school are all outdated, and extremely hard to drive compared to the cars at other driving schools. If you are already a decent driver and looking to brush up on your skills, johnstons may be a fit for you, but if you are completely new to driving, like I was, I would definitely recommend looking around for other instructors as they can definitely help you out a lot more. read more

I highly RECOMMEND this driving school, I was going for my N road test and did a lot of research on all the driving schools in Vancouver. My road test was in point grey. I called johnstons driving school and am I glad I did so! All the instructors are great but I had Werner. He is AMAZING. I learned so much and I PASSED MY N ROAD TEST WHICH I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT. I would definitely recommend - I had Naj as my instructor and he was very thorough as well as very clear and very patient. I didn't have a lot of time to practice before doing my road test, and no access to a vehicle - Naj helped show me everything i would need to pass the road test, and took me a long routes near that ended up being very similar to the road test. I am definitely pleased with the lessons I got, I would say Johnstons was reliable, straightforward and very very accommodating with my schedule as well as professional. read more

I recommend this School. I had 4 classes (as recommended by them) to take may class 5 road test. I had 12 years of driving experience from my home country but the laws in BC are very different so all the classes were essential. I also had the service to use the car for the road test and a 45 minute class before the road test. This all was a package and the price was average compared with other schools. But since it is a smaller school, the treatment was more personal. The two professor I had were great and the office staff was really reliable and helpful. read more

I had a really great lesson with the driving teacher but unfortunately I had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience with the school itself. On one of my lessons which I had pre-paid for, the car broke down around 20 minutes into our hour and a half lesson. It took someone from the school 45 minutes to come and give us a new car and at that point we only had time to drive back to my house. When I called a few weeks later to discuss this (I was very busy at the time and didn't have time to call earlier) they told me they were not willing to give me any money back and there was nothing they could do for me. When I asked to speak to management they told me this was not an option. I called twice more and was told that I would get an email from management (I did not), and later was told I would get a call from management (I did not). I was told that there was no one else I could speak to and was refused any contact info for management, even though "management" was supposedly the ones making the decisions. I'm normally pretty easy going but this was honestly an incredibly frustrating experience and I would absolutely not recommend using this driving school. read more

Took the GLP course and had Naj as my instructor. Passed the road test at my first attempt. I would highly recommend Naj if you are the kind of learner that learns by doing and making mistakes. He is funny, patient (very patient) and it is evident that he is experienced and has a unique way of explaining what to do and when (especially for parking). Special thanks to Relika for arranging lessons and keeping in my mind my busy schedule. Thanks Naj! Tip: Lessons fill up fast so book wayy in advance to get a suitable time slot and instructor. Horrible. The company forgot about my appointment and subsequently Naj was an hour late. He was extremely rude, drove with me for a half hour when I had booked an hour due to another appointment conflict and then became indignant when I refused to pay for a full hour. He told me that him trying to find my address counted as part of the lesson time. I learned nothing. Although the experience with Naj was unprofessional, the company compensated by giving me a free lesson with Warren who was delightful. read more

This company might be good but I just got a emphatic middle finger for trying to turn left though a clear intersection in front of one of their drivers that was waiting for some people to cross on a clearly defined intersection in Kerrisdale. I sincerely hope this male, Caucasian instructor is teaching our new drivers to be patient on the roads. He might need a little reminder on how to represent your company's brand as I suspect it's not the behaviour you want to share publicly. read more

Naj was a great instructor for my teenage daughter in helping her pass her N after she had taken the GLP course at another driving school and had failed the road test several times. She did a 90 minute lesson and then a 60 minute warmup prior to the road test with Naj. She tells me that Naj gave her specific feedback about her driving that she had not previously received, gave her helpful information about taking the road test and took her along many of the roads on the test route. He was pleasant, calm and courteous and I think he really helped her to feel more confident. Big, big thanks Naj! read more

I would recommend them if you feel like you need them - I just finished my Class 7 N test today and I passed on my first try! I had 4 lessons with Lisa. In the beginning, when I first started driving, the lessons were pretty decent. They cover the basics, giving tips, and some of the things that they teach (reverse stall parking and parallel parking) are really easy to understand and really easy to remember so I found those helpful. Some issues that I had with the lessons were that the instructors car was on the messy side since there were always empty drink cups in the back drink cup holder. Also, I would have liked for her to focus on the lessons more because when I was first learning to park, she was busy finding gum. Other than that, the instructor that I had was friendly and are willing to answer questions; also, the receptionist was really friendly and very helpful. read more

I highly recommend this driving school - I passed my drivers exam on the first try and it was all because of them. I had Gord as my instructor and he was amazing. He was extremely patient, punctual, knowledgeable and never made me nervous when I made a mistake. He is a wonderful instructor and I would recommend him to everyone. Relika was also great in accommodating my requests and she would always answer emails very quickly.
