Best parts of this experience: 1. Friendly and empathic front team who got me scheduled ASAP. 2. Text prior to the service person's arrival with their pic and some info to help personalize this 'stranger' 3. The service people themselves--extremely competent, focused, and very personable. The owners were instructed that we needed to have our dryer vents brought "up to code" as most of the vents had become disconnected... and were venting somewhere inside the building.. but not venting out side the the building. Argh... a challenging task for sure. I called several companies to come out and give me an estimate. Every single company I called said "I will find your disconnect, but you are responsible for replacing your drywall, painting, etc" Not good news. Then... Ducts On Call came out... and they spent 4 hours researching... trying to figure out which vent was mine that exited out of the back of the building. But since every single dryer vent was disconnected in the interior of the building... there was NO way they could figure it out without tearing up the ceiling in mine, and my neighbors units. I was SO frustrated. But then Nick suggested we put in a new vent duct from my unit straight out the front of the building. It was my only option. He said we would need to schedule a time in the future... but I told him I needed it done in the next 3 weeks. He said... "I will make this happen for you" Well for starters... he DID NOT CHARGE ME for the 4 hours he spent trying to figure out which vent was mine. HE SAID... "I didn't solve the problem.. so I will not charge you" What?? 4 hours of your time for free?? Moving forward..... Nick and his crew came back 2 weeks later to install my NEW, up to code dryer duct on a new path out the front of my condo. I was SO not looking forward to having my ceiling ripped open to have the duct installed. So the day had come. Nick arrived before his scheduled time and he went to to work. I asked him... "How much of my ceiling do you need to open up?" He said... "I'm not opening your ceiling... I'm going to drill a hole in the exterior of your building, and slide the new duct straight back to your dryer connection" I was beside myself! I could go on and on... but let me tell you, this guy is the real deal!! He is incredibly gifted at what he does... super friendly... hard worker, and gets the shit done!! For what I thought was going to be a day of HELL... turned out to be a day of BLISS. I CAN NOT recommend this company any more than I do!! They were AMAZING... and the job was smooth, and quick, and so much easier than I dreamed it would be. Let me state again... that I called several companies to get the job done.... and these guys were one of the newer companies I called.... but I hit the jackpot!! Trust me!! If your need Duct work done... these guys were stellar from start to finish. And no... I'm not related to them... We had a pretty good experience with Top Hat, despite some hiccups. We had them install a slate…read moreveneer over our old brick fireplace, as well as install an electric fireplace insert which we purchased from them. We found a veneer in their showroom that we liked. They had a cheaper veneer that looked similar so we ultimately went with that (unfortunately). They installed it in a timely fashion, though there was a miscommunication between the sales rep and the installer, and the corner pieces weren't ordered, and the lack of corner pieces wasn't caught when it was installed, so the veneer was installed without corner pieces and the slate stone was cut flush in the front at the edges. Also, the install was not seamless, there were gaps where you could see the brick below the veneer and it was uneven in places. We contacted Top Hat, and let them know we were not happy! They were very accommodating, and apologetic about the mistake they made. They agreed to remove the old veneer and re-install using the same product. The day of re-installation, we were able to talk directly with their mason, it was determined that the cheap(er) veneer we went with was very flaky and hard to work with (it was a new product that they had not used before) so at his suggestion we upgraded to the higher quality veneer at very small price increase. So int he end they removed the old stuff, and re-installed the new product (with corner pieces), all at no additional cost to us, and now everything looks awesome. We felt their customer service was great, they always kept us in the loop, and strived to keep us happy. Sure they made a mistake initially, but IMO the true test was how they treated us AFTER the mistake, and we felt they were awesome in that regard.

I hired this company to install a fireplace, and from start to finish, it was a frustrating experience. Once I paid the down payment, the company's attitude completely shifted. Cindy, the lady that runs the office, was rude, dismissive, and frankly, condescending. Darin, the owner, "forgot" several commitments that were made during the quoting process, leaving us with an incomplete installation. I ended up having to either finish the work myself or hire other professionals to get the job done right -- including moving electrical, rebuilding the hearth base, and even hiring a roofer to fix the improperly installed chimney collar. This entire process left me feeling misled, overcharged, and really disappointed in the quality of both the service and the professionalism. If you decide to work with this company, make sure you get every single detail in writing and double-check everything. I would not hire them again. Would not recommend.

In my experience, when you call the plumber back to fix an unfinished job, that's called a callback and you don't pay for that. Pat was nice enough, but on the second visit turned on the water and the jets, told us to put a pan under the leak and left. We got a bill for 150 dollars. Imagine our surprise. At no time did anyone say that there would be a callback fee, not to mention I don't think telling me to put a pan under a leak constitutes plumbing work. We wrote them a letter to this effect and got no response, only reports to credit agencies and lawyers. Yes. Lawyers. Terrytown sued us for 364 dollars (including fees). A deputy served me papers and everything. The case was dropped today based on a reply to the court that is basically what I've put down here. (Even though Pat's note on the bill was: Still leaking. Told them to put a pan under it.) All because they would rather intimidate their customers than give one iota of customer service. Avoid at all costs.
