I came into the store today with an cylinder tumbler lock & needed it to be rekeyed to another commercial key cylinder such as Corbis that Clark Devon Hardware said was not possible due to compatibility issues but Brian an employee at this store painstakingly searched through dozens of cylinders and was able to find one compatible and also rekeyed the tumbler so that all my commercial tenants could use the same key that already opens the main door. He did this all within 20 minutes and as a commercial building engineer, I was super impressed with the service I received today including from Locksmith Charles whom in passing was offering sound & good advice!

Very trustworthy, reputable company in downtown Evanston. You can't get this kind of service elsewhere. I highly recommend.

Tim fixed the lock immediately and then changed the swing arm that gave him considerably more hassles.

10/10; would highly recommend!…read more I hired the Danny Keys team when I moved into a new house and needed locks changed. Initial contact: They were extremely responsive when I reached out and I loved being able to schedule online (and there was a solid amount of availability. At the appointment: When it came time for the appointment, the technician (who was on time and fully communicative) went above and beyond in the best way. Not only did the technician answer my 100 questions and concerns about smart locks, but he also advised me my options with different locks throughout the property to balance safety and cost. I thought they would only replace the locks but they also were able to replace the doornobs, offering several appealing options in the style I wanted. They had a variety of options for locks too - regular door locks, deadbolts, and smart lock varieties. They even cleaned off the door all around the doornob because it was dirty and looked a little gross! My biggest joy has to be that they were able to use the same locks on multiple doors so we could use one key for all the doors, which is a lifesaver because I was startingbri appear as a janitor with so many keys, lol. After it was all done, they made me a bunch of copies of the key, which was helpful and honestly unexpected because I thought I'd have to go to Lowes after to do that myself given the million and one copies we needed for various family members. Vibes: it was such a seamless experience with an incredibly friendly, helpful, technician who treated my house with respect (eg no outside shoes inside) and was patient with my questions/concerns. Cost: Pricing was all competitive with other companies I considered. Overall: An excellent experience; I'll only be using Danny Keys for my future lock change needs and recommending them to my friends and neighbors!

I really value supporting local businesses, and this company's responsiveness is top-tier. After…read moremoving into a new home, I had two doors re-keyed by their master technician. While the deadbolts worked perfectly, I soon realized the keys in the doorknobs were sticking and difficult to push in all the way. I reached out, and they sent a second technician (Christi) who took the time to resolve the issue. While it was a bit disappointing that the job wasn't completed the first time correctly, I am very pleased with the final result. I was especially impressed by their communication; they proactively called me in the morning to update me on a slight delay due to emergency calls. It's rare to find a company that prioritizes follow-up as they do.

After not getting a reply to my inquiry via their website, I called and told the woman who answered exactly what I needed (two doors needing one deadbolt on each, new holes drilled). She told me the service fee was $29 and that a locksmith would call me back. It did not take long for a locksmith named "Ron" to call me and offered to come that day. I told him exactly what I needed and he quoted me $185 per door plus $80 per lock. I agreed. I said "Plus the $29 service fee?" He said he'd waive that if he did the job. He arrived several hours later and at first said he couldn't do the job I asked (door too thin) and tried to convince me of other options but then decided he in fact could do the job. At that point he said $289 per door and $80 per lock! I said we agreed on $185 and he claimed he had said "starting at $185" which is not true because if he did, I would have asked more questions. He told me that this new price was the going rate, and that it's not much more than he originally quoted ($200 more) and eventually asked if $269 per door would be acceptable instead. I said no. He told me to think about it and I agreed. But at this point, his friendly demeanor was gone. I had planned to ask for a quote for a less pressing job (switching out doorknobs to the original antique ones removed years ago). He said it was impossible and that I must have new doors. I was perplexed because these were the original doors and he decided to "show me why it wouldn't work" by removing the handles/lock from one door but stayed silent with no replies as I asked him clarification questions. At that point he said I owed him $169 for the service fee "because he had done work." I said I didn't ask him to remove the handles/lock and that the service fee quoted was only $29. He was very angry at this point and asked me what I wanted to pay. I said I'd pay the $29 (just to get him to leave as the tension was very uncomfortable at this point). I Zelle'd Ron the $29 and at that point, I realized the money was going to "SafeKey" (his own business) thanks to this name on the Zelle account and not going to "North Shore Locksmith." I called North Shore Locksmith after he left and the guy who answered wouldn't help me understand why SafeKey had come instead of North Shore Locksmith but assured me that "upper management" would call me back. The next day, no return call. I called North Shore Locksmith again in the morning and again near end of day, each time the person telling me someone would call me back and days later, still no call. Very odd "bait-and-switch" incident where North Shore Locksmith gave my job to a random locksmith, who in turn, "baits-and-switches" on his quoted costs, pretending there was a misunderstanding on the initial quote. I had hoped this was all a misunderstanding with North Shore Locksmith but since North Shore Locksmith won't contact me, I'll never know. Since then, I've gotten quotes from other area locksmiths who are more affordable than even Ron's initial quote.

He also called to let me know when he would be here and arrived at the time promised. Since my locks were older, they were more complicated than anticipated I could not have the work done. David issued me a refund for the service call since the work could not be completed. He even said he will work with me to provide me with better locks. David kept his word and provided me with two new locks/deadbolt. I am very happy with his work and his work ethic -- he keeps his word and verified everything was working before he left; I would recommend this business.
