Over Labor Day weekend I had Elite out as my AC went out. The technician came out and replaced the…read morecapacitor. In testing the fan motor, the motor was free spinning without any resistance or slowing/drag observed. The unit started up. One week later, the unit went out again, but this time the fan motor was locked up. The fan motor and the capacitor replaced and the unit started up. During this second repair the technician took the capacitor I had purchased for $500 (a part online for $25), did a test, didn't report the numbers to me, and told me he was placing the part back into inventory on his truck. I reached out to Elite after this repair asking for a refund of the capacitor in the amount of $300 to so that the technicians repair time was covered for the holiday time the week before, and they refused. My rational for the refund, and my concern, is that there is a potential that the capacitor to replace the originally failed one was used, given the apparent practice of technicians using old/worn parts that have been placed back into their inventory. While the technician stated that the capacitor still tested ok, given that this specific capacitor was installed during the motor lockup, it is inherently altered and worn. Wit this practice, I am concerned that such a used capacitor was installed on my unit with the fan working properly, and thus caused overheating of the motor with a weakened capacitor. Elite has offered no refund at this time, and I have canceled all of my extended families' services with the organization, given that they have the potential of utilizing worn parts and selling them as new parts.

For that reason, I had them do a spring checkup, Emma claimed the heat exchanger was cracked, the fly wheel needed cleaning, and the a/c compressor was "over amping." I had a different, highly reputable company check the furnace and a/c, and they found that none of this was true - neither the furnace nor the a/c had any problems. Also, Emma did not provide a written a written description of her service and recommendations, and they have not provided the promised receipt for the payment of the second inspection. They are either incompetent or dishonest, very possibly both.

So, my house was chilly (furnace would work but not hold at 68) but we were running space heaters so not too big of a deal. Get the part a few days after Christmas. The guy comes out to install it but this time the furnace wouldn't work at all and the guy said it must be a cracked heat exchanger. So, he ultimately came to the conclusion I must buy a new furnace. The guy said I'd get a call from the office that day to get a new furnace. I stressed the urgency before the cold spell. Crickets... no one called and with the recommendation of a new furnace, I wanted another opinion. Called another vendor. They came out and looked at the switch. The Chowning guy installed it backwards... the heat immediately came back on once the new vendor flipped it. 3 days later, the furnace would no longer hold the temp again. Called the new vendor up and they were out that day. They spent 3hrs doing a full diagnostic. They determined that I didn't need a new furnace and the original switch (that Chowing insisted needed to be replaced) was never bad. The circuit board was going bad. The new vendor searched online that day, found a replacement in Fenton, picked it up, and installed it. Furnace is working like a charm now. All I can say about Chowning is that it's lazy. They don't care if they're wrong and you have to spend a bunch of money on a new furnace you don't need. That laziness combined with the apathy of outcomes for customers is why I'll never use them again.

Two years ago, a day before we were supposed to head out on vacation, we found our water heater leaking. We called them, they came out quickly, got the permits they needed, and we went on vacation without having to worry about it. This morning, our furnace wasn't kicking in. No vacation plans this year, but the technicians came out quickly, found it was an in-warranty part, and got it replaced quickly. I appreciated the honesty! He had to leave to get a new circuit breaker and came right back to replace it. I'm happy with the service - prompt and courteous - but I am not thrilled with the high cost. The service call was $89 and a new circuit breaker should cost only $20-$30. I was charged $331.50 total, which I've been told by neighbors is very, very high for such a simple fix...Oh well. At least my furnace turns on now.
