When I first spoke to John, we discussed the services I wanted for my front yard which were, removal of old layer, new top soil, and new sod placed. We discussed a price and shortly after I agreed to have the services completed. He informed me that the fee he was charging was for LABOR ONLY. I would have to order the top soil and sod from Clarks Home and Garden and pay to have it delivered. Reluctantly I agree to this and let him know I felt this should have been discussed originally. Next I find out that I have to rent the sod cutter plus the trailer from Hayward Rental, but assures me he has a very high powered rototiller so I wouldn't have any other expenses. OMG... are you serious.... He wants to charge me to dump all the old dirt. I had to rent a dumpster to have all the dirt removed. Now it is time for the rototilling..... What do you know... his so called high power rototiller breaks down, and now I have to rent the rototiller and the trailer. At this point I said I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!! I paid him for the removal of the old layer and the rototill and will find someone else to complete the job. I really should have read other yelp reviews before hiring this guy. I used this guy for landscaping for a bit. He showed up at my front door asking to cut my lawn. I thought I was being a good samaritan by ignoring his gang tattoos and giving him some work. He talked about going to church every chance he could to try to come off as a good person and would make frequent comments about 'white people' which I laughed off at the time. Over time his work quality went down. He started showing up at my house with black eyes from fighting, strung out and asking for cash advances on work. Long story short, strong arming turned into burglary. Send this guy away as peacefully as possible. He hangs around your hood getting people used to seeing him while he cases your houses and breaks into them after you send him away. If he's been around you should invest in some surveillance cameras. read more

Nice guy, competitve estimate, nice portfolio but no references. "Disappeared" twice with no communication. Work not completed to written contract specs. After debating with him to redo the job, he agreed to fix it. It has been two weeks with no contact. It should be a warning to homewoners when they can't find a cyber presence for a modern company. I have never owned a home before, so I learned this lesson the hard way. I should have trusted my instinct that something just wasn't right. I should have supervised every step of the process. John drove by my house and quoted me on the front part of my driveway. I went on vacation and came back home and the work was done with out me knowing. Did look nice at the time and did not think nothing of it and payed him. Weeks later the the concrete that he laid started to lift. I called him he said he would come by and check it out. He never did and now he does not answer his phone. He leaves it off, I have left voicemails but he never returns them. I would look else where if you are looking for work to be done to your house. This review is for my mom, who hired John Vauvei to do some concrete work. She specifically told John that she wanted the cement done to where it would drain away and not puddle up. Numerous times she told him what she wanted and he said he would take care of it. Well now she is getting a small lake in her walkway which is also going under the ramp and now she has to squeegee it out. He will not return calls. DO NOT USE HIS SERVICES!! Really pathetic workmanship. We hired him to fix vinyl fencing and he screwed up big time. After putting the fencing in a wrong manner he was arguing and was very rude. It was a trouble to hire him. First I show him the area that I want him to work on then I told him instead of lawn I have right now I want new colored concrete so he quote me $4600 and say this is a discount price. We agree upon it so he start the job the first two days he took out the lawn just the way I told him to do So on the second day when he asked me to give him his $3000 so I gave him $3000, but then on the day he pour concrete on my lawn he asked my husband to give him $3000 not the left over amount of $1600 from the $4600 that we agree on his excuse was he miscalculated the amount of the concrete that he need to pour on to the ground. So my husband gave him the &3000 on the day he asked for that payment. Ever since he got the second $3000 he hasn't come back to my house to finish the job such as to put color on the new cement and a mailbox. I have called him numerous time and each time he say he will come to my house and finished up the job, but honestly till today he still have not come back and finish up the job! *** read more

I didn't hire him after I checked his contractor's license number on his card and saw that it wasn't current. Most guys doing small jobs don't have contractor's licenses anyway so this doesn't mean much. But, if you're going to list your license number on your card it should be current, no? read more
