Tucked away at the far corner of us highway 41 and Lutz lake fern road is John's. I have been going to John's for a long time now and I don't think John works there anymore. The guys that do work there are keeping up the tradition. They are closed Monday so they can cut the meat. They have a nice selection of meat and I pick up delmonticos from them a lot. Nice flavor and great price, they are local so stop by and spend some local money. Simple fresh beef. That's the secret,ground that day. Juicy and delicious. It is hard to find nothing to direct you to it but why you get there you will know it because of the big roof sign take the ramp to your right to the entrance we arrived at 1:30 on Saturday and the meat was gone they where out of everything. We did Oder about &60. Worth to pick up on Tuesday. You should call before driving all the way out and find the meat shelves empty. After I ordered I saw a Board sign it. Growing up when I was in High School I would come here almost everyday and have them make me a burger. It was normally a 1/2 pound with cheese and onion. I can honestly say that it might be in the top 10 burgers I have ever eaten which is why im sure I ate one almost every day after school. I haven't been there in awhile but im sure it hasn't changed. I'm always on the hunt for a small mom/pop shops and this one checked the box. I saw this place tucked away years ago and never went in and recently, I drove out in the lutz area for some errands. Long story short, I stopped in right at 10:00am when they opened. I was greeted by a gentlemen named Mike who was very friendly. I told him i was looking to make some burgers later in the day and he literally grounded up fresh meat for me, on the spot. Burgers came out great with a very balanced flavor. I was looking for a local butcher to shop small, build a relationship, and find good quality meat. Everyone here was nice enough, but the quality of meat isn't even USDA select. I bought a strip steak, at 15 bucks a pound, and didn't inspect it too much before I left. I assumed that it would be at least USDA Choice status for the price- after all, they have a decent yelp rating and there's no way they could be in business and be selling garbage- boy was I wrong. I will be grinding up this "steak" for use in a meat sauce. I cannot attest to their other products, but their beef is below sub-par. I'm actually really really really disappointed. I was hopeful to find a good quality local butcher, something that's hard to find in the Tampa area. Instead I'm building a better relationship with the Publix Meat department. read more

They cut the meat, chicken, sausage however you world like it cut, they will even season it for you. They have a lot of different choices of meats. The service was super quick. This place is a treasure! A local fresh meat butcher shop! I go weekly to get meat. Also great for last minute cookouts, a few times I've preordered for larger quantities. Prices and Quality are better than the grocery stores. I'm told they also do turkey and duck at the holidays, but I've not tried that yet. I recommend you give them a try. read more

Welp it's been done. Oakleys Grill has been over run by Johns Butcher Shop for number 1 burger in the Bay Area. Who hoo congrats to John's. Tender, flavorful, juicy, did I say flavorful? I normally slather my burger with condiments but this burger is so good I don't even want condiments. Crunchy bacon charred edges of fantastic ground beef. The bun is soft and holds everything in place. Just a fantastically constructed burger. The best plain and simple. My beautiful wife tried the Cuban, traditional and while It wasn't the largest sandwich we've eaten it was certainly the most flavorful. The meats were different in some way not over salted flaps of rubber but seasoned nicely. Johns Butcher Shop has risen to the top of our lunch list. Thank you for a great experience. read more

This is a great local butcher shop. But what I really really love are their hamburgers. Specifically their half pound cheeseburger. This truly is the best hamburger you can buy in the Lutz Land O Lakes area at any price. And to top it off they have sweet tea! Not impressed at all. After multiple people on a community forum said John's was the place to go for good quality meats, I had to give it a try. Walking in I wasn't greeted, even though there were 2 men working and no customers. I looked at the limited selection while one of the men came over and stood in front of me, still no greeting. I ordered 3 steaks- no offer to let me pick which ones and no communication with me except for asking if I wanted debit or credit during the entire interaction. I left unimpressed and out $25 for what probably wasn't more than a pound of meat. When I got it home and opened it up, the bottom of each steak was brown. Needless to say, I will not return and the search for a good butcher and quality meat continues. read more

Great butcher shop. Never had anything less than ideal from these fellas. Enough homemade sausages and skewered meats to keep it interesting. Make sure you get BONES for your DOG while you're there! They'll sell you whole raw femurs will a bit of meat left on them and all the marrow still inside for less than half of what pet shops charge for crappy, flaky, cooked ones (raw bones are best for dogs, btw). Good little family meat shop with GREAT backyard burgers at good prices. No frills kind of place. Got some ribeyes(can't remember grade) to cook at home and they were decent. Bacon is excellent with burgers or for taking home for whatever. They also have pre-marinated meats and shish kabobs with chicken, steak or shrimp and some other little goodies you can just pop in the oven for a quick no hassle meal. I love johns butcher shop. It's an unassuming little shop just off US 41 in Lutz. I've lived in the area for fourteen years but had never stopped in until a few months ago. I was actually looking for a local butcher that carried grass-fed, no hormone beef and poultry. The meats are fantastic but I also discovered that they made sandwiches as well. The burgers are awesome. Juicy and flavorful and best of all....affordable! They have Cubans and porkchop sandwiches and even grilled cheese. They don't have a dryer, so they don't offer fries but that okay. The burgers make up for it. read more
