Simon at John's Auto Care went above and beyond to provide me with the smoothest and most pleasant experience I could hope for with an auto repair shop.   I was interested in buying a used car from a friend, but I wanted to have a mechanic give it a checkup first to see what, if any, repairs might be on the horizon. I called my family's longtime favorite mechanic, Simon at John's Auto Care, and he connected me with his favorite tow truck service, Lowe's Towing, to bring it right over to his shop from the owner's driveway.   Simon performed a full inspection and called me with his findings that same morning. He confirmed that this car was in very good condition, ran great, and was being sold to me for a really great price. He resolved the problems we'd already been aware of and fixed a couple minor issues he'd discovered, but then he actually talked me OUT of some expensive repairs he said aren't needed yet!   All the work was completed by the next afternoon. Then he took the time to answer the MANY little questions I'd thought up, and gave me great tips and advice for maintaining it to keep it working great well into the future. He arranged for Billy at Lowe's Towing to bring the car from the shop to my house in the morning, and now I have my own car again for the first time in 4 years!   John's Auto Care has been the only shop I trust for many years, and this experience more than reaffirmed my confidence about that decision. Best auto center around. Highly recommend! If your check engine light comes on bring it here! They will make sure a repair is actually needed or something is wrong with the sensors. They will not do any unnecessary repairs! Twice I have brought it in when my check engine light has come on and left without paying anything. Should I have any challenges with the Explorer down the line you will be the first that I call and arrange for work to be completed. They completed major work on my explorer. Replacement heads, water pumps and chains all at a fair cost. So I had to take my car in for some repairs (that's the price you pay for not having a car note) and I wanted somewhere close by as I wouldn't have anyone to give me a ride back from the shop. I saw quite a few good reviews for John's, so I called and made an appt. So glad I did because he fixed my car the next day and the cost was about half of what I paid last time to get a wheel bearing replaced (the kind of car I like eats wheel bearings for breakfast). Car rides great now and I'm taking it back to do some other things that need to be done. So, in a nutshell, great service, quick and very reasonable cost - highly recommend. Bonus for me is, I can drop off the car and walk home, ya can't beat that. read more

Absolutely impressed with the customer service here. Due to flooded roadway, I ended up with loss of power steering and some other fun electrical issues. Unfortunately John's wasn't quite able to fix it there. Off to the dreaded dealership I go. That said, I will gladly recommend to all just how great John's is. Very good repair shop, straight up with how much labor and parts will cost, as well as if a repair could be done that day or needed longer. This repair shop was within walking distance so it made it a clear choice for my repair. My car was overheating and not pushing hot air, friend took a look at it and could see that the water pump was leaking. After dropping off my car (Saturday afternoon) I received a call on Monday that the water pump would need replacement, as well as the radiator. John was very straight with me that he could do the repairs, but that due to the age and condition of my car, it was my choice if I wanted to go forward or not. I decided to move forward with the repairs, but I did appreciate the 'real talk' about the cost of repairs compared to how much life the car has left. That solidified to me that these are people who want to do honest work, and be able to talk honestly with their customers. Will definitely be back for any future repairs. read more

We went in to have our brakes checked they advised us that we only needed the pads and hardware we were very surprised on how accurate and honest they are the shop prior said we needed everything we also have been looking at tires and they offered us a complete set of 4 tires for half the price of other tire dealers and best of all the tires ride just as good as the expensive ones we will continue to trust the team at John's Auto Repair with our car wish we would of tried them long ago read more

Ripped me off $500 back in December. Replaced all my wipers with old ones, the plastic snapped on all 3 so I had to buy brand new ones. Told me I had a coolant leak, but didn't fix that in the $500 worth of stuff they supposedly fixed. Long story short, don't bring your car here unless you want to be ripped off and back in a couple weeks. My car runs the same if not worse and I've taken it there 3 different times. Repaired a turbo on my Saab, his price was 900 just for the part, a simple search by me, found it for 350... He accommodated me by letting me order the part, but it was downhill from there the car is now plagued with oil leaks he could not fix. After charging almost 500 more I took it to another mechanic who found that parts were not installed correctly read more

I was advised by Simon, they have 2 master mechanics, I was shocked to see my truck on the hoist to install a oil pressure sensor. when I inquired, I was told they were going to see if could put it on going from underneath? then they called me in the shop to point out minor oil leaks I was already aware of to cover why truck on the hoist. When I made a freindly suggestion to make sure they put the screen in the line underneath the sensor, Simon told me this wasnt their first rodeo, then they called me back in shop to show me a nick on one of the wires to the sensor,I asked "what, you couldnt get the connector off the sensor? Then Simon says they dont mess with sensors,,too much work involved hands me my part and says, we'll pass, later I noticed the engine cover was loose, they broke one of the pin's off the plastic intake manifold. leaving a hole in the intake manifold,I epoxied the pin back on the intake. Not worth my time to point out what one of their rookies messed up, it sure wasnt from a master mechanic, BEWARE, they are not as good as they portray to be., read more

One screw up is a fluke. I can let that slide. We all make mistakes. Three screw ups in two visits? Something's not right there. I own an older Chrysler pickup truck. A couple years ago I had some exhaust work done at John's Auto in Hazel Park. The exhaust work was done shoddily, but to their credit when i went back they redid it properly at no charge. So I didn't hold it against them. Recently I went to them to replace my fuel pump because the sending unit in the fuel tank was bad. I had the new pump, I just needed to put it in. I get a call from them telling me the sending unit in my old pump is good, and that they traced the problem back to my instrument cluster. They didn't have a new gauge to put in, so there was nothing more they could do, except charge me for all that labor. Then when they said my truck was ready, I went to it and saw they hadn't put the instrument cluster back together. So they put it back together and I drove away wondering why my speedometer wasn't working anymore. They forgot to reconnect my speedometer cable. I had to get back in there and do that myself. So to repeat: They initially tried to give me back my truck without a working instrument cluster, then didn't reconnect my speedometer cable when I had them go back and fix it. I then spent the next month trying to track down the fuel gauge issue. I tried three separate gauges, then finally I found out how to test the gauge by connecting a variable resistor to the connector that plugs into the fuel pump. I used my multimeter to find the signal wire and ground, hooked up the variable resistor set to about 50 ohms, and the needle on the gauge went up. So I set it to 0 ohms, and my gauge went right to full, just as it should. So I was lied to. The sending unit was indeed bad just as I had suspected. I found this out well after I returned the new fuel pump. I went back and confronted John, who tried to tell me that there could be a short that they missed. A short to ground would cause a Chrysler's fuel gauge to read full, not empty. So the only conclusion I can draw is that the shop is either staffed with liars, or people who are incompetent. read more

I wish I could give half stars. I called for a price to replace the motor in my Caliber. He gave me the prices for a used and new motor. I advised him I wanted new. I had to pay a $1,000 deposit for this new motor. When I picked up my car he stated he put a used one in. This was done without my authorization. This is not what was agreed upon. He said he thought "new" meant just another motor. I would not send my worst enemy here. They were rude on the phone when I called to check up on it as well. read more
