It's a great mix of casual and slightly upscale without feeling stuffy. It can work for a family dinner or a casual night out. There's just something familiar and comfortable about it. We've both dined in and ordered takeout several times and the service has consistently been wonderful. Our servers and everyone handling our takeout orders have always been incredibly sweet and kind. I will say the hostess experience wasn't the best during our first couple of visits, but thankfully that hasn't reflected the service we've received otherwise. The burgers are AMAZING. I've tried the Bear time Burger as well as the blue cheese burger, which is definitely rich but still so good. The ribeye was absolutely delectable. We've also had the crab dip, which was really flavorful, although a little mayo rich for my personal taste. I'm not crazy about their regular fries but I love that they offer sweet potato fries instead and the cinnamon sweet butter they come with is so good. I also love the croissants they bring out instead of regular bread. They're always warm, delicious, and nearly impossible to resist. Overall, Morgan's has become such an easy go-to for us. The menu has enough variety that it's especially great when we have visitors because everyone can usually find something they'll enjoy. Whether we're dining in or just grabbing takeout, it's one of those places I'm always happy to go back to.

Read the description carefully because they are not fries...they are a curly potato more in the wedge family, not very fries like. Little disappointed because I was craving fries tonight. But thats on me for not reading it carefully. It wasn't bad at all. My husband ordered one of his favorite soups to get, French onion, and was not happy with it. He called it "fake". The restaurant looked very warm with brick walls and high ceilings. Service was great, but food was ok. Not interested in visiting again in the future.

I also always get a cup of clam chowder and some type of oyster. They have several types of baked oysters, and their raw ones are always shucked really well. I'm a big fan.

This restaurant by far has been…read morethe most consistent in the quality of the food, which is the best of all the restaurants in the topsail area. It is not fine dining and has the sports bar vibe. It is a relatively small place and I recommend going on non peak hours in season. If you are into oysters, they have a great selection of both local and regional on the half shell. If you prefer cooked, chargrilled or steamed is a good choice. While the menu has a great selection of seafood, the chalkboard specials features extremely fresh local catches which change daily. While there are several restaurants in and around the topsail area this is the only one where I have never been disappointed. If you go at peak hours during the vacation season expect to wait but it is worth it. You can't miss with any of the steamed shellfish offerings and if you prefer fried there batter is light and not overpowering. As a sports bar, they have a large selection of tap and bottled beers and a good mixology of liquor options which is only outdone in my opinion by Rick's in Sneads Ferry

I could've asked the price upfront (and usually do) but what the heck... we're on vacation. The server suggested we get a "double" and share it. OK. Sounds good. It came out quick. There was a TON of food for two of us. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn. It didn't have a lot of seasoning also on it, but - no problem - there was a rack with every hot sauce you'd ever need, plus salt, pepper and old bay. We both ate our fill and even left a few potatoes. The bill comes and it's less than $40. It might be the cheapest great meal I've had in a long time. Or maybe it's the "greatest cheap meal" I've had in a long time... I don't know. Bar ambiance, but pleasant enough for families. Mostly high tables. It all seemed very nice.

I think the poppy and sesame seeds threw off the flavor a bit. My wife says the tuna steak at Ribeyes in Swansboro is better, and I'm staying out of that argument. There were a few restaurants but MJ's stood out amongst the rest for the photos and reviews. MJ's is located in downtown New Bern. The restaurant is not very big but the wait (20-25 mins) was worth it. We ordered the Admirals Platter which had oysters, clams, shrimp, and crab legs. The oysters were steamed to perfection, the clams were not dried out, the shrimp was perfectly seasoned with Old Bay and red onions and the crab legs were not dried out. What I am trying to say is, the seafood was fresh and not pre-cooked. It was cook to order. Our waiter was awesome. Even though the restaurant was packed full, he paid attention to our needs. Our glasses never got empty. He kept our table cleared by replacing the shell bucket without asking. We really appreciate the customer service. After dinner, we decided on dessert and had the lemon blueberry pie. I highly recommend it ... deliciousness!!! Thank you MJ's for a special time with delicious food.
