This is the best barbecue place I have come across in the whole state of Michigan and their prices are very reasonable. The staff were so friendly and the owner came out and talked to every table. Tucked in little Perry Mi. This place is perfect. It's basically quick order premium BBQ. There is a small seating area that me and my family sat at. The staff is awesome. They walk you through everything and make sure you are happy with the order. I had the meat sampler that includes Brisket , candy bacon, ribs, a full bratwurst and two healthy sized piles of pulled beef and pork served with a cornbread muffin. Plenty of food and a great way to try it all. I highly recommend this place. First time we've visited but we will make sure to make this a regular rotation. read more

Stopped on our way home from a weekend of eating out in Chicago. This was the best food I had all weekend. Fries were cooked perfectly crispy outside and soft on inside (every single fry was perfect), seasoned well, brisket French dip was amazing! Meat had a great Smokey flavor, sautéed onions were sweet, the bread was flavorful and had texture to it! We travel this stretch of road often, this will be a new favorite stop! Heading to Grand Rapids Friday night saw Johnny Vs billboard. We were planning to go to the "competition, Meat" in Lansing. We thought as it was late this might be a better option so we could get back on the road. We were pleasantly surprised as we walked in and were warmly greeted by the counter staff. Our order was placed, we found a seat and were quickly served our chosen meals. We are Keto peeps so BBQ is always an easy pick, but we never know if it's going to be slathered with thick sugary sauces. The meat came naked but well smoked and tender so no sauces were needed. It was delicious falling off the bone ribs, brisket was tender and juicy served in a bowl with some nice smoky broth. I cheated a bit on my keto diet when I saw the sweet potato fries! They were worth the carb load! No sugar on them just well cooked fries! Perfect! The best part was the owner Kevin came out greeted us making sure to get our names and checked on us made sure everything was to our liking. He shared their BBQ story made us feel right at home. You can see his true passion for his place, he understands what top notch customer service is all about! The decor is fun, casual right down to the fun pig murals is the restrooms. He came around asked about our food about our experience with barbecue. From there along with the stimulating and interesting information Kevin provided about his experience getting to his path to perfecting barbecue makes for a great experience. I really think this is the best bbq in the area! I visited the Perry location from the billboards on the highway. I ordered ribs, brisket, and chicken. The meats were absolutely perfect, moist and beautifully smoked. The array of sauces is fabulous. Try them all, my faves are the Kansas City and the South Carolina mustard. Also had some of the best Mac and cheese I've had in a looong time! And their seasoned fries and Johnny cakes (cornbread) are simply delicious. I live in Lansing but I plan on becoming a regular. Only downside is they don't offer any booze, but the food more than makes up for it. P.S. Their other location is shut down after a fire. read more

I was disappointed with the food. The ribs were tough and dry and the brisket was rather bland. The sauces were good and the workers were very friendly. And the to go order was very fast. Full disclosure, I did take the food home before we ate it. We tried it the night I bought it and it was quite dry. The next day it was even much worse. I had heard good things about the food and was looking forward to a good meal. Overall, there are a lot of BBQ places in Lansing and the surrounding area that are much better. I have a LOT to say. The food was SO GOOD. We dont travel a lot, but we like to eat. We probably have eaten at 100 places the past couple of years across the east coast. Food is our love language. When I say this is not just the best smokehouse but probably best place my fiance and I have ever been. Every single item was good. The onion rings- crispy and flavorful and the sause was perfect. The burgers were just as we asked and flavorful as well. The tacos were juicy yet not soggy and so smokey. The fries were so flavorful and crispy. The burnt ends were the smokiest, most flavorful and tender rib meat I have had. And I usually hate most meat. The owner saw us 3 times. Every time he genuinely wanted to talk to us. Ut didnt feel rushed or a waste of time. He even remembered what others guests were doing there. This is dedication. He was very sweet to my son and even gave him the a cookie. Tried this BBQ place today. Everything was amazing. I loved the homemade ranch for my salad. I ordered the cheese-it grilled cheese sandwich (I know...how do you go to a BBQ place and not get the BBQ?!? I had a craving and I love cheese, so don't judge!) Anyways...the sandwich came with a tomato sauce with Gouda cheese sauce to dip it in and it was the perfect compliment. The food is bland and the sauces are good, but the employees do not pay attention to details. Physically check your bag before you leave the restaurant to make sure you got everything you ordered. Very tasty BBQ with a Michigan flare all its own. Been eating there since opening week and the owner,Kevin, and Manager, Michelle, have always taken great care of us and our kids. I have taken co-workers and family here and have yet to hear a bad review. One time they were full up and we weren't able to get a table with a screaming hungry 2 year old so we had to leave (not upset about them being full in the slightest) and Kevin took notice, tonight when we returned he went out of his way to apologize and ensure the visit this time was perfect. I have to endorse Johnny V's for two things. First off, as a big BBQ fan I usually judge a place by the quality of their brisket. Unfortunately I will not order brisket from here. What Johnny V's does do amazingly is their ribs. Great price, flavorful, and meaty, period. Always get them dry because they don't need any sauce. They do have some good sauces though and some with a nice heat kick too. The other thing is their wings. They are large and very good. However, to preface, I do not like blue cheese, nope, not at all. The blue cheese sauce for their wings is like crack, I would do shots of this stuff.
