It just opens the door, turns the lights on, and says, "You hungry or not?" It is designed for food and drink not ambiance. This was one of those spots. The drinks showed up quick enough to make you think they might've already known your order before you sat down. The food was solid in that dependable way--nothing trying to reinvent itself, nothing apologizing for being what it is. Just honest plates doing honest work. Kyle the bartender is a study in modern Southern service industry diplomacy. Not exactly the kind of fellow you'd invite to Thanksgiving, but he kept things moving, kept things correct, and occasionally tried to lace the proceedings with a bit of entertainment--like a man juggling while also reading the room and half the room's thoughts. In the end, it's not a place you'll write home about in glowing, poetic letters. But it is a place you'll walk out of thinking, "Well... that did just fine." And in downtown Macon, that's sometimes all a man really needed in the first place.

But once inside you figure out quickly it is truly a hidden gem. The spinach dip was so good, the waitress was so accommodating and nice and appeared to give honest feedback when asked about her dish preferences. By far the star of the show was the red snapper. I was scared it would be dry but boy was I wrong!!! It was seasoned to perfection and so hot and delicious...can't believe I almost passed on it. It's been a struggle to find good food in Macon but this place checks all the boxes and I hope it stays around for years to come!

Located in Downtown Macon, parking is available via street parking. Finding a close spot on the weekend is like winning the Mega Million, possible, but don't count on it. We lucked up on this night and found a spot directly across from the restaurant. As we made our way to the entrance, we were unexpectedly greeted by a woman passionately yelling obscenities at us. Nothing like a little downtown ambiance to set the mood. Thankfully, the heavy police presence on every corner made me feel safe enough to proceed to the restaurant. Once inside, the chaos faded instantly. We were welcomed by a gregarious and friendly staff, informed them of our reservation, and were seated immediately. On this particular Saturday, they weren't overly busy, so we even had the luxury of choosing which booth best suited our comfort level. The atmosphere is intimate and upscale without being stuffy. Think dim lighting, elegant music, exposed ceilings, and décor that says "rustic charm" but also "yes, this entrée will cost more than $30." Our waiter was professional, attentive, and genuinely pleasant, the kind of service that makes you relax and stop checking the time. We started with cocktails: I ordered the strawberry lemon drop martini, and my husband opted for an old fashioned. Both were well-crafted, smooth, and strong enough to make us forget about the crazy lady outside. For appetizers, we each ordered the crab cake. You get one small crab cake, but it was tasty and respectable by Middle Georgia standards. Entrées are à la carte, so order accordingly. I ordered the Chilean sea bass with Brussels sprouts and spinach, while my husband chose the salmon with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Both fish dishes were cooked perfectly and tasted fresh, with sauces that paired beautifully. The Brussels sprouts were crispy, flavorful, and addictive. My husband said his mashed potatoes were possibly the creamiest he's ever had. All of the food was outstanding. Dessert options include their 3rd & Cherry cobbler, cheesecake, and crème brûlée. Heads up: desserts are made to order and take about 20 minutes. Translation, order dessert early unless you're prepared to sit there long enough to contemplate life choices. The restaurant and restrooms were clean, which always earns bonus points. Overall, we had a lovely experience at 3rd & Cherry. It's an excellent choice for a special occasion, date night, or anytime you want to feel a little fancy without leaving Middle Georgia. We'll definitely be back.

Tucked away in an unsuspecting corner of Downtown Macon, this fine dining English-style steakhouse established in 1997, offers an experience that unfolds slowly, from a puzzling entrance to a surprisingly polished dining room... and ultimately to some of the best food I've had in Middle Georgia. ARRIVAL + FIRST IMPRESSIONS Because Downtown Macon was buzzing on this particular Saturday night, my husband and I ended up parking a couple of blocks away and taking the alley the GPS insisted was our route. Let's just say the alley definitely had "first date horror movie" vibes--but the beautifully framed photos lining the walls helped cut the sketch factor a bit. Once inside, we were greeted by a friendly, outgoing staff... and immediately greeted by something else: the cigar smoke. Downtown Grill has a full bar with an impressive oak humidor and a selection of bourbons, wines, and scotches that could easily impress the most seasoned connoisseur. But that also means the bar area is smoky--very smoky. I actually questioned whether we'd wandered into the wrong place until the hostess whisked us to the back dining room, where the ambiance shifted entirely. The dining room is intimate, classic, and much more aligned with "fine dining." Cozy booths, dim lighting, soft background music, truly an escape. And once seated, I didn't smell the cigar smoke at all. Bonus points for the restrooms using cloth napkins for hand-drying, an eco-friendly and elegant touch. We had noted on our reservation that it was our anniversary, but there was no acknowledgment. Not a deal breaker, but definitely unexpected for a fine dining restaurant, especially one that's been around this long. Our server was polished, professional, and consistently attentive. No complaints there. I started with the Elderflower Refresher and my husband with an Old Fashioned, both solid. But the star of the cocktail lineup? The Lavender Margarita. An absolute hit and something I'd go back for alone. For an appetizer, we ordered the Lump Crab Cakes. As a Maryland native, my standards are sky-high. These weren't "lump" crab cakes, but for Middle Georgia they were acceptable. They were flavorful, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the aioli drizzled on top. Then came the French Onion Soup. I'd seen the rave reviews and they were absolutely justified, easily the best I've had in years. Rich, savory, cheesy perfection. We both opted for the special of the night, the Salmon. My husband's came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I chose broccoli and green beans. The verdict? 5 out of 5. The salmon was cooked with precision--flaky, flavorful, expertly seasoned. The veggies were fresh, vibrant, and seasoned beautifully. Truly, this was the best meal I've had in Middle Georgia, hands down. Downtown Grill may not be where I'd choose to celebrate a milestone (the lack of acknowledgment and smoky entrance made sure of that), but it is where I'll go when I want a reliably excellent, well-executed meal. The kitchen is clearly the star of the show, and they delivered an unforgettable dining experience. We'll absolutely be back, maybe not for the anniversary, but definitely for that food.

My first experience was fantastic, and this time was just as perfect. The entire staff is friendly and attentive, clearing plates and refilling water as they pass by--truly exemplary service! Jordan was fabulous, striking the perfect balance between being attentive and allowing me to enjoy my meal. I arrived an hour before closing, but that didn't affect the experience at all. The French onion soup was just as amazing as I remembered--flavorful, slightly sweet, and loaded with onions and cheese. This time, I decided to try the chicken marsala for my entrée. The chicken was grilled to perfection with a lovely char, and the sauce was delicious; my only regret is that I didn't ask for extra sauce. The mashed potatoes and green beans were also bursting with flavor. Overall, another five-star experience!
