I would have to say if the weather is nice the outside sitting/eating area is really nice and relaxing even if it is facing the parking lot on 3 sides. Its not too loud and there are tvs playing sports. The food is alright for a chain bar and grill, but the service is really where it's lacking. Seems to be you ask your waitress to do one thing several times. And this happens every time we go here. Otherwise it is a place we return to every so often, usually when we see a movie in the theater behind this restaurant. read more

Always enjoy Johnnys. It's a great local restaurant or should say KS bar n restaurant. Had the jambalaya and it was very good could have used a little more spice but that is what Tabasco is for. Staff as usual very spot on and friendly read more

Really want to like this place the atmosphere is OK. The service is kind of poor and it seems in my experience to be the most expensive "bar" in Topeka. Plus their website says $3.50 Yuengling for happy hour, but the restaurant told us it was four dollars. The Monday special is five dollars off whole pies but when we got there, we were told it was specialty pizzas only just seems like false advertising. Food is pretty poor anyway. read more

I got a to-go-order of double smash burger and sweet potato fries. Staff was friendly. Order didn't take too long. I asked for lettuce and tomato on my burger but didn't get it. Good burger but not much taste. Luckily, I brought my own lettuce and extra fresh onions. It helped tremendously. Sweet potato fries were wonderful. read more

Driving home from Illinois my husband and I stopped here on the recommendation of a local friend and it was a nice reprieve from fast food on the road. My husband got the chicken street tacos and I got the Wedge salad. Refreshing and delicious. The glass of wine was a hearty pour and much needed on a 16 hour drive. (My husband was driving) The staff was friendly and attentive as well as efficient. There are many tvs and the diverse programs showing was a nice surprise. It's a tavern but it wasn't loud and the restrooms were clean. Definitely a new stop on our route to and from IL. read more

The service here is good. It is every bit a sports bar so kind of loud with TVs everywhere but still able to hear your table mates. The food is just ok, the burger was okay but the grilled chicken was about 1/8" thick at one point & char lines were so black it was bitter and I had to spit it out. For a Buffalo sandwich, it had no Buffalo sauce & I could add but that was just not the same. Stay away from the onion rings unless you like cold, dry, crunchy rings of paper thin onions. They might be good fresh but over breaded so I doubt it. Stuck with the fries, which are good here. The drink was good, a green parrot, very coconut-y and beer is always cold here. read more

Johnnys @83rd and Mission is a favorite of mine to enjoy friends and family! The service and food is amazing! My favorite place to unwind!

Always a great meal with excellent service! Love the variety on the menu. They just need to add crushed peanuts to the chicken lettuce wraps! read more

I'm not really sure what all the bad reviews are on about with Johnny's. I've always found the service here to be reasonable, friendly, and haven't had many problems. The food is above average sports bar fare, and I haven't had many problems there either. The place is cold - both literally and figuratively. When it is over 100 degrees outside and staff inside are wearing hoodies, maybe its okay to turn up the AC. I can't imagine what their cooling bills are like. On my most recent visit, I was quickly seated in a back room where one server seemed to have all the tables. It was a Washburn University themed room, and they had some cool Gary Woodland memorabilia as well. Service was fast and efficient, and the server was working her tail off. The food was good, although the burger was definitely well-done. I had the fry/ring combo as a side, and got a really generous portion of onion rings mixed into the fries. I'd recommend this place if you are looking for a quick bite to eat or a place to watch the game. Maybe bring a hoodie though. read more

Great service. Bartender had a full bar and still didn't have to wait. Ordered the Wilson's Wings as usual. Always tasty, charred ,and tender. Not overcooked like you get at BWW sometimes. Excellent flavor. Food came out fast. Not sure I can find a fault here. Solid place. Good atmosphere. That's why I keep coming back. read more

Awhile back I gave a very negative review for the food (burgers) I went again for lunch with my son and the experience was completely different. I didn't order burgers (can't do that after the last fiasco) but I ordered a French dip, my son ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich. The food was amazing as was the service. Glad I tried something different. read more

Bad business practice to randomly close early and turn customers away when well within the posted hours.

I'll just say upfront that my four star rating more reflects the overall establishment than the pizza that I am DESPERATELY seeking a "go-to" source for in Topeka. I always find the staff and atmosphere at this location to be top notch. Food portions are usually generous and above average (4 stars) in quality. They have some great daily specials in terms of value and their exclusive Blue Collar Lager from area Free State Brewery is very nice. As for the pizza. I would score it a 6.8 on the One Bite scale as a pretty decent bar pie and better than most in the Topeka Pizza Desert. A nice bargain on Mondays for $5 off the whole pie price. read more

We got food to go, since we were staying at the Springhill Suites. Everything was so good, and the service was so fast! Our favorite was the Brownie Sundae. It was big enough for all four of us to share, and at $6 was a bargain. We will be stopping by again! read more

In the hunger search for lunch - this was across the lot from the hotel. Thank you for the awesome service! (Lady on phone Shawna {Bar/sorry about spelling of name} ) Friendly staff of hosts directed us to the bar once we arrived. Ordered an item I had forgotten and lightning fast it was prepared. Shawna double checking the food items caught a mistake and fixed it fast. I paid at the bar & she ran my card with new total in lightning fast fashion. We picked up to go food and headed back to the hotel. Order of appetizer of jack bites, potato skins, nachos - DELICIOUS, the crispy texture was still there when we got it to the hotel. Chicken tenders kids meal was tasty and the daughters were excited. Johnnys classic salad as my dad said was The bomb!!!! Accurate order - absolutely... Easy in and out of the parking lot. 5 stars for this visit! Looking forward to next visit! *Keep up your Twitter work as it lured me in * Respectfully, Bryan Yukon, Oklahoma (I salivate at the stuff they post to Twitter all the time) read more

It's been a while since we last visited Johnny's Tavern. We recalled that it was good. Boy, were we mistaken on this visit. I ordered the Dodge City burger with sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the '78 Classic burger. The Dodge City burger was OK, but the bacon and the onion rings on top were burnt. Plus it was supposed to have BBQ sauce on it. If there was any BBQ sauce on my burger, I didn't see or taste it. Very dry and not very flavorful. The sweet potato fries, which cost extra by the way, were fairly sparing, plus they were soggy. If you are charging extra for this side, one would think that we would receive a fairly generous portion. Nope. The '78 Classic burger, which Johnny's is so proud of, had barely any taste at all. It also was very dry. My husband received even fewer sweet potato fries than the amount that I received. It was like they had a single serving of fries left over from lunch and, instead of preparing more, they just heated up the fries they had and split the single serving onto both of our trays. Like I said, we paid extra for the sweet potato fries. Never again! Service was mediocre at best. It was not busy. We were there at 1:15pm, after lunch. Only about 18 guests inside the restaurant. It wasn't like they were slammed with lots of customers. The waitstaff didn't have an overload of tables to serve. She didn't offer to refill our beverages. She didn't even return to the table to ask if we found the food satisfying. Maybe she knew something that we didn't know. This was just one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences that I have had in a long time. As we were leaving 3 gals were entering with their children. We both had the urge to tell them to go elsewhere or at least not waste any extra money on sweet potato fries. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

Service is really good , friendly staff, has a very nice theme for a sports bar, food is a hit or a miss. Beer is Great!

Food was lackluster, bland and dry. The service was on point and replaced the food that just wasn't good. The ambiance is nice but I would just go there for drinks. read more

You know...I didn't really know what to expect from this place, but it was an easy pick for the size of our group (20). They were able to accommodate us rather quickly during a busy dinner rush, and we waited the expected wait time for our food. They gave us two servers to handle the table, which I think made a huge difference in the quality of our service (which was really just okay...nothing crazy). This place gives me Applebee's vibes, but Topeka's version. he food was okay, I just ordered a burger and fries which were pretty good. The burger was cooked to my liking. Nothing more to really add...I'm on the fence on weather I would return here tho. read more

Went with party of 10 this past Saturday evening. Half of party received their order, an hour later the other half order was not delivered. Asked to speak with manager. Manager made excuses about different stations:however, multiple people in party had same order, but only one received their order. Ultimately, took orders not received offbill meaning they had not been prepared. Do not recommend this location. read more

The service was good, everything was done in a timely manner. Our server was polite and friendly. The food was delicious, lots of flavors. I had a margarita and it creep on me . Living in the near vicinity we decided to try the tavern. It was a Friday night, but the bar was virtually empty. We found out why when we got our check. My boulevard wheat was $9.25 for 16 ounces. At other local bars I average $6.25. My burger was ordered well done and was overcooked with charring on the edges. Our waitress was dressed as though she was working out. Very short spandex shorts and a top that looked like it had been crumpled up on the floor for a few days. read more

Might be one of the worst meals I've ever had. How do you screw up a burger? Overcooked, with bacon thr texture of shoe leather. Steamed broccoli as a side had enough salt to make your mouth hurt and stop your heart. Even the water tasted bad. The service was blazing fast. In hindsight I should have known something was wrong when the server didn't ask how we wanted the burger cooked. She didn't even bother to ask why I left an almost complete burger and pile of broccoli on the plate. read more

Johnny's Tavern has a variety of meals on its menu. The beer was served cold and Jake (not from State Farm) was crazy friendly and prompt with his service. I had the sweet n spicy wings with a 50/50 fries and onion rings and wished I had jumped in head first with the onions rings. Loved'm! Plenty of TVs for sports games watching. Plenty of room to seat big parties without crowding and sitting on one another. Clean facilities! Clean tables, floors and seats. Plenty of parking and if you overdo the drinking, Springhill Suites by Marriot are across the driveway. Nice!!! read more

Johnny’s Tavern - Double-Jack n Coke (Not really. They serve Pepsi products) and short wife drinking a Tall Mango Cart. - Sports Bars Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

Definitely this location needs some work! You walk in and the "hostess" is rude and won't get up from her spread out position on the bench where patrons are sitting. Finally she yells at the girls at the desk to seat us. Then there is the food which only gets stranger. Cole slaw that looks fresh but has zero flavor. Bloody raw burgers when we ordered them cooked medium and then there was the rancid table sauce (the "Wilson" sauce)....how many months are they left sitting out unrefrigerated and open before they are pitched? Sorry, won't be back. read more

I had to save my appetite for this massive lunch. Our group went out to lunch for a coworker's last day. There were 15 of us and they managed to get the food out to us in an extremely timely manner. This is the nasty pizza ever! It's greasy;soggy; flat and tough. Yuck! I know I paid for extra cheese but cannot see it.

We ordered the fish and chips platter and the chicken tenders platter. Both the fis and chicken we way overcooked. The hushpuppies weren't cooked fresh and were hard as rocks. My sweet potato fried were cold and limp. Never offered refills on drinks yet servers could stand around talking not 10 ft away. This place has gone way downhill since our last visit. Seems the more they add locations, the more their food and service suffers. I doubt we will go back. read more

Great food great fun good atmosphere last night and the restaurant and it was nice and clean inside

Used to love the Johnny's in Lawrence. It was pretty good when the Topeka place opened, for a while. The last time we went, which is the last time we will go, it had degenerated into a loud sports bar, with questionable food and stressed wait staff. The wait for our check was longer than the wait for our food. We won't miss that dump at all. Oh. And it used to be reasonably priced, but it ain't a cheap date at all now. read more

I've been going to Johnny's for years in KC, and have always liked their food. The first time I visited the Topeka one, I thought the food was bad (e.g., fries were cold so sent them back and they still weren't good), but chalked it up to being new. Revisited this week and it was bad again: the salad was marginal at best, the hamburger was cold (the cheese wasn't melted at all), etc. These are two menu items that normally are great. So owner/managers of the Topeka location, go to other established Johnny's and see how much better the food is and learn what they're doing. You can do much better. read more

To give them due credit, the last time we were there everything was good. This time, everything was WAY overdone. Our server was pretty decent. Tipped her well, but I doubt we'll be back. Very disappointing food, if you are going to eat out and pay sit down prices, it at least had to be edible. The "soft" pretzel cut up the roof of my hubby's mount! Pizza hard as a rock, over charred, and a burned burger, the most "well done" one I've ever seen, and he ordered his medium rare. I ordered the cauliflower wings, they were good. A little over salted, but they were 4/5, as was the service, everything else I'd rate 1/5. read more
