Brought my 2004 Honda CRV in this afternoon to have an anti-theft device on the catalytic converter installed. The front desk person was super friendly. now taking me five months to write this review. been bouncing back-and-forth and actually it or not. But now that I have to go out and fix what was done. I figured I better write this. In May, I went into Johnny Franklin's to get a tailpipe custom for my truck. Many things that they did I am questioning on and just shake my head. First things they took a torch and cut off the 50 year-old exhaust hanger that wasn't even gonna be reused or even a thought to be used. And doing so by chance some of the sparks from the acetylene torch got into my brake drum and started my smoldering. That took about a half hour for them to figure out how to get it to stop. Right there I was already questioning what the work was be. Second, they cut my existing hanger off and it dropped down and was hanging there. Later, I had to replace both exhaust donuts at the because they had been broken. If he had supported the muffler before he cut off the existing hanger, it would an issue, but I don't even know why they even cut that hanger off to add their own. Next, I had to watch diligently because when he finally was fitting the new tailpipe piece he was place it about a quarter inch to 3/8 of an inch to a plastic gas tank. I asked him to change his shims that he had because he had a quarter at the gas tank and a half inch shim at the frame. I don't be that guy, but I don't know if he understood English. Because all he did was look at me and nod, and I had to flip the shims myself. I noticed that he put a bell and to attach to the existing exhaust at the muffler, and I thought he was gonna cut it off later because I gave him a in line band clamp to use which he did not use properly. He kept the bell and put the band clamp on it and then proceeded to tighten it down with an impact that you would use to put on wheels and tires. I now have to throw that away because I had to cut it off Because the threads were so screwed up. Then when he welded the new hanger at the back of the frame to hold the end of this new tailpipe, it rubs right onto the plastic gas tank. I asked him to move it because it's touching the gas tank and he proceeded to tell me that it was OK. I should've complained to someone else but did not. I did not want to fight. I was already getting pissed enough that the guy exhaust did not listen to me one bit on how I wanted this to be run. I was already quoted a price over the phone and then when I was done, I was given a higher price and was told that over the phone was wrong. I've been going to Johnny Franklin years on anything I needed a custom exhaust for. I'm never going back. I will stick with doing it myself. update: never going back for sure. Have to now order new parts to fix what they fucked up. I would've given the guy the benefit of the doubt if he what he was doing and asked, but using a half inch impact to tighten down a 3/8 bolt and tightening it too tight to ruining the clamp is ridiculous. I guess when you go cheap, you get cheap.Downgraded to one star. read more

Friendly, fast, honest. I called and told them what was wrong with my car (the heat shield was rattling) they gave me a reasonable quote over the phone. I brought it in, went to a diner nearby, they called me 20min later and told me it was easier to fix than they originally thought and it was ready. Charged me less than half of the original quote. Arrived and they took my vehicle in right away. They confirmed the price again before doing any work. They had it done in about 30 minutes. The young man (forgot his name) was very friendly. I've been going to Johnny Franklins for almost 20 years and have gotten used to going in and chatting it up with Bob the owner when I need my muffler replaced or upgraded. Last time I was there we talked for almost an hour and when our conversation ended he came out from behind the counter with a rag and some cleaner and spent 10 minutes cleaning someone's tail pipes who was having his muffler replaced....... good ol fashioned customer service, makes you think about where you spend your money when you deal with people who appreciate every person that walks through the door, these guys have been around forever because they treat people right and they do good work. What they're gonna do is just weld a section. And if there's an issue after that. I'm gonna come back and they're going to replace just the section. I wasn't able to get here till 3 PM. I went to have my car smogged and it would not pass smog due to their inept "work" they did to the car. They would take no responsibility for the sloppy workmanship they did. Great honest business. True story: A close friend has a weird rattling noise coming from underneath her way expensive Mercedes-Benz. Takes it to the dealership. They tell her the entire exhaust system needs to be replaced for more than $1,000. She takes that under advisement and leaves. Drives to Johnny Franklin for a second opinion. They put the car up on the lift, discover that the muffler clamps are loose. Tightened them up. Problem solved. Out the door for $78. Years ago I had a muffler replacement on an old Ford Econoline van. They did an excellent job for a good price. Highly recommended! read more

One of my catalytic converters needed replaced. The first shop i went to was going to do it for ~$1600, but they couldn't figure out how to weld it in place so they told me to go to Johnny Franklin. I'm so glad because Johnny Franklin only charged $565, saved me a lot of money. I didn't have an appointment but they fixed my car right away (they had the part in stock, didn't need to order it) and i didn't even have to wait very long. Jesse is friendly and professional. We've been coming to Johnny Franklin Muffler for 23+ years. My four kids have lots of memories of waiting in the waiting room while we got mufflers on our vehicles. In the past two months we've had two mufflers put on our cars. One was a Christmas gift for our daughter #2's Subaru Impreza. The other was for my husband's Jeep Wrangler. They did a great job on both vehicles. The waiting room has free popcorn. The bathroom is clean. While I was there this morning, I noticed at least three vehicles pull in to have error codes checked with a code scanner (it seemed like this was a courtesy service). read more

Let me start by saying that I have been using Johnny Franklin's Muffler shop since I was 17. I have had many of my vehicles upgraded with custom exhaust. My extended family and there friends also use this muffler shop and have for many years and I can definitely say from experience that this shop, owner and employees are the best. Blown away by the customer service! My previous mechanic moved to Austin, Texas, so when my car failed smog due to a small visible crack on the exhaust manifold in my Civic, I didn't know where to turn. Called around to a few places, and used Yelp's direct messaging feature. Got a quote to fix the crack in the exhaust manifold for $1,200 at another place. Johnny Franklin Muffler asked me to bring it in so they could provide a quote. I sat in their waiting room for less than 5 minutes, when I was told that my car was ready. I was totally disgusted by these people. I went in because they were recommended to me by my auto dealer during a tune-up, but was totally offended by them. I was there standing at the counter waiting silently while two guys behind the counter were on the computer. Of course, being ignored wasn't good but I wanted to politely wait until they were done doing whatever they were doing, but one guy turned the computer so the other guy could get a good look, and they were looking at pictures of nude women. It was way too weird that besides ignoring me, they seemed to unnecessarily make the computer screen visible to me. There is no way I will ever give them my business and I'm telling the guy at the auto dealership what happened so he doesn't continue to refer other people to them as well. read more

These two brothers have apparently been doing this for decades and they really have the biz down to perfection. I needed a muffler for my ancient VW van, and had got estimates from 2 other places.
