Took my car for a wheel alignment, after an hour and twenty minutes I went in to the back and my car was nowhere to be found, the mechanic in the back says we don't do alignments! I asked the guy up front where the heck is my car! He's says we sub them out to a shop down the street. The alignment was done well, except they couldn't give me the printout. And for some reason the car overheated when I left the place. Not happy about the whole thing, why did they say they could do the alignment if they can't? read more

This will be a different type of review, from shop to shop. Give these guys a shot because I work at a shop in Irvine, California and one of Johnny's clients had his vehicle towed here because his power steering went out. Our client had repairs with Johnny and the problem was related to the repairs. We figured out the problem and I contacted Johnny and these were his exact lines, "Whatever we have to do to fix it, let's get it fixed." Johnny even shipped the part we needed overnight in order for our client to get back on the road. Hands down one of the easiest people (Johnny and his staff) I have dealt with for repair approvals. I was at auto zone trying to get my gas cap off of my car ,when a random guy who was also a customer offered to help me get it off. He had a uniform from Johnny d's on and he said he will be right back. 20 mins after we spoke he came back and got it off in 10seconds. The the people from tire works nor auto zone could help me. The engine in my Toyota suddenly stopped working one night when I was driving home. I pulled into a parking lot and called Johnnny D's. A good friend who woks near them recommended them. After having my car towed there, it took them 4 days to give me any information about it- and I had to call them for the information. In my opinion, a phone call from them would have been more professional. They kept my car a for 6 weeks. I called their office approximately 5 times during that period, and only got to speak with Johnny (jr.) twice. I was told (after no improvements to my car for 6 weeks) that the problem was electrical, but after repeated test drives, it seemed to be okay. When I went to pick it up, I asked, "What happens if i drive it, and it does the same thing?" The answer I received was that I could bring it back. If they weren't able to fix it after having it for six weeks, I have no confidence they would be able to fix it if I brought it back. While Johnny Jr. is a nice and friendly person, I hate the level of service I received. My car is still not fixed, after paying them $478. At some point, if you cannot fix the problem, I deserve my money back. I wish they had been more hones about not being able to fix the problem, and that they were simply in over their head. My car is a 1999 Toyota, and they were unable to fix it. It is never my intention to undermine a small business- the reason I went to Johnny D's in the first place was because they ARE a small business. Its my hope that anyone choosing to work with them are aware that this happened to me. To date, I have not received my money back, nor any of my phone messages returned. Please be advised. read more

We used Johnny D's back in 2011-2012. We had two older cars and went there a lot. Haven't needed their services since due to we got two new cars under warranty. However, when my wife and I used their services everything from start to finish was above and beyond expectations. Poor communication. Had my truck almost 3 weeks, and only spoke spoke to him twice. Oh, after we called to follow up. No updates, no nothing!!!. After my husband called, they finally diagnosed the car after 2 weeks in their shop. Nearly $270 later, we pick up our car because they could not find the exact source of the problem, but the recommend a new engine. THANKS! I just wasted $270, and 3 weeks without my car for something that's I could have predicted. Don't waste your time, nor money. Very unprofessional. Took my 1984 Mustang GT 350 for an anticipated $350.00 carburetor overhaul. I was welling and expecting for this to be done. After they test drove it they determined that the carburetor just needed to be adjusted and set up correctly. This was done for a very fair price of $108.00. The car runs great! I retired from the auto service industry after 40 + years and found Johnny D's to be very fair and honest. Any time that you preauthorize a $350.00 repair and get the issue is solved for $108.00 you know they care about return business. While there they found a vacuum hose condition causing a/c controls to not work correctly. They repaired that also. Very happy to have both a smooth running and cool blowing a/c in my toy. As there advertising states "fixed right the first time". Thank you Johnny D's and I will return if your services are needed in the future. read more

Unfortunately, my pride and joy had issues again yesterday. I noticed my truck had a slight problem with what I thought was the alignment, so I made an appointment with one the few shops here in town that can do an alignment on lifted trucks with oversized tires. They quickly instructed me, they were unable to do the alignment because one of problems was a worn out Hub Assembly on the drivers side. They also stated that this could be a catastrophic failure if this hub word to completely let go. They gave me an estimate to fix the one side. After asking several questions, such as time frame warranty Etc, one of my questions was, do I need the other side done as well as long as we are doing one, why shouldn't we do the other if it is a wear item? The guy at the counter quickly replied with, " well... ahhhh. Yeah that would probably be a good idea to do them both let me give you a quote for that also." My first thought to myself was, obviously you didn't you check the other side, because you could not give me a straight answer whether it was bad or ready to go out as well. So my second thought to myself was, you did half the job... Why do I want you working on my truck? If you are going to do half the job diagnosing it? You are definitely going to do half of the job fixing it. After his quote more than doubled to fix both sides , I told him I would be in touch and let him know. At that point, I took my truck to the place I have used several times in the past. Johnny DS Automotive. I spoke to Johnny D himself, and explain to him what had just taken place. Johnny said they would get it up on a rack and take a look at it, and see exactly what was going on with it. Sure enough it was the wheel hub that was worn out, Johnny explained that on those trucks it does come as a complete assembly from the manufacturer and it is a non serviceable hub. He also stated that is normal for those to wear out especially when they start hitting the mileage that my truck has on it. He assured me that the parts should be readily available, and that they could fix my truck as quickly as possible with no headache and get it back on the road. They check the truck out, and sure enough, the other side was wearing out as well, the only difference was, they actually looked at the whole truck and was able to show me what was going on with it instead of going off of shrugged shoulders and guessing about what might be wrong with it. After about 10 minutes the parts were Tracked Down, And were on their way. Once the parts arrived Johnny's crew went to work on my truck replacing both front hubs On it. I asked Johnny the very important question, " so once we get this thing tore all apart are we going to find other issues? Like it needs this or needs that or there was some other hidden problems?" He quickly assured me and told me, " no no no we checked the truck out and made sure everything else was fine, now once we get everything put back together we are going to check it again just to make double sure that there is nothing else, but I highly doubt it" knowing that I was pretty much stranded at his shop, Johnny put two of his mechanics on it and got it knocked out extremely quickly. Once they put the truck back together, they went back over everything and found there was absolutely nothing else wrong with it. In fact replacing the hub's took care of the alignment problem as well. Which was something else the other shop was going to go ahead and charge me to do afterwards without even checking to see if replacing the parts took care of the problem to begin with. Johnny D saved me several hundred dollars in repair over the other shops estimate, and my truck is back on the road quickly and safely. Thinking back now when I originally spoke to Johnny, I told him the dollar amount the other shop was going to charge me, upfront. Knowing this information Johnny DS could have easily just quoted me under what the other shop was willing to try and get me for, just to make it look good. But he did not do that. He diagnosed the truck, found out what was exactly wrong with the truck, and charge me accordingly, it would have been very easy on his part to take advantage of me. However, he did not. That shows me his level of integrity. My hat goes off to a repair shop that only fixes what's wrong with your car and does not charge you 35 house payments to fix what is not really broken. I assured Johnny as I was leaving their shop, this is the reason I send my family and my friends to him, and will continue to do so. read more
