What a great addition to my neighborhood!! This cute little coffee shop makes an awesome latte and has cozy little nooks for reading books and tables for working. Free internet too! I love the bar outside...that will be great in the spring fall to sit outside and enjoy your coffee. They've just opened and have a great menu of coffee, a little tea...but they are bringing in Sesa Pure teas around the August timeframe. A hidden gem. The iced mocha was good but the berry bar was delicious!! Nice atmosphere and plenty of room to sit and chat or work. I've now been twice intending to stay and work on my computer for a while, but both times I've ended up taking my things to go after ten minutes. The first time, I didn't feel welcomed; this time, I felt the barista was ungenuine. I haven't decided if I'll bother with a third try. This place is cute, calm but not "too quiet", there is plenty of room to spread out on different seating types (tables, pub tables, couches, a bar), free wifi, and the atmosphere is homey and relaxed. I hung out for about 3 hours and got some good work done, never felt pressured or irritated by my fellow cafe goers. I would have given this place 5 stars if there were a few more power outlets for my laptop...as it was I had to choose the seat closest to the power! Finally found a spot that I can work from while my car is getting worked on at Dave's Ultimate Automotive down the street. They have free wifi and a spacious cozy seating area. The staff were incredibly friendly, and they have a great selection of coffee and food items. They have gluten free pastry options made by local Russell's bakery, fresh baked in house options, or tamales that they can heat up. The fresh frittata they had was delicious. They have a unique selection of cold brewed coffee mixed drinks called motions. The locomotion was delicious and not too sweet. Long time coffee drinker who was recommended Johnny Beans by a local neighborhood group. To be honest, I thought it would another coffee shop that was "cute" inside but offered a low quality coffee. I was WRONG! The coffee here is truly the best I've had in Austin. I had an Americano that had a full body taste without any bitter taste. Prepared perfectly. Had a chat with the Owner and he and his Staff couldn't of been nicer. Johnny has 20+ years in the coffee industry and knows the business. I adore this coffee place! I was in the area and needing a snack. Little did I know that I was walking into the small town coffee place of my dreams. Everyone knew each other​ and was so friendly. I want so badly to like this place. The staff are all super friendly, the food is great but the coffee tastes like it's dirty or dusty. It has the worst smell and taste. I don't know what is going on but I've tried it twice and ordered 4 drinks (2 house coffees, black and 2 americanos, black) and all 4 drinks have the same smell and taste. Maybe it's the water or their equipment needs to be cleaned? I hope they solve the problem though because it's very close to my house and I would love to love it. read more

Johnny Beans is great! Excellent coffee, with a warm inviting atmosphere, but with a very open concept feel so it doesn't feel too crowded, even it the place is packed. I wish I could give 4.75 stars, as my only issue with Johnny Beans is the hours...they close at 2:30pm on weekdays and even earlier on the weekends. Leaves me searching for another afternoon coffee haunt. In spite of that, this is definitely a place to check out! read more

I have been to this place a handful of times and enjoyed it (usually the owner was there and he's super nice and helpful). Today's experience was different. A new person (but clearly the more experienced of the two staff working this morning) helped me. I asked for a tamale and a lemonade. I asked for very little ice, and the guy told me he'd put as little as he can and that it doesn't mean I'll get more lemonade, "just so you know." I don't ask for light ice so I can get more lemonade, I ask for it because I don't like my drink too cold or for it to get watered down. But really... It's lemonade, for crying out loud, not liquid gold. He added quite a bit of ice anyway. I let it be. The microwave beeped indicating my tamale was done. The other staff person took it out, as she needed to use the microwave for another order. The person helping me continued with taking an order and making the drink for that order instead of giving me my tamale. I asked him for it, and he said it wasn't done. He then stuck a food temp thermometer in the tamale and put it back in the microwave. He didn't clean the food temp thermometer before or after using it for my tamale. The service went from amazing the first few times I've been there to me feeling pretty sure I won't be going back. Sad, because it's a cute place and the tamales are delicious. read more

Love this cozy coffee shop!! Let's start with the espresso. I ordered an iced almond milk latte and it was delish! The ice and the milk made it super refreshing. The espresso was smooth and bold without overwhelming the drink. The service was the best part. The owner and a barista named Nikki greeted me with smiles and warmth right when I walked in the door! Both catered to my paleo needs and provided speedy service with excellent conversation: this would be a great spot to stop in for a chat with friends or alone time to reflect and read.
