The Cupcake Bloke - Macaroon (for a change!)

They have a stall on Coppinger Row on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from morning time til 4pm each week. They have also been known to appear at the occasional other food fare from time to time also! They always have their standard selection of cupcakes, and then a few "specials". The specials are generally quite experimental flavours like Red Wine & Chocolate, or Coconut, Mango and Chilli. So good! The cakes are a very reasonable two euro each and you can get a loyalty card which means you get a freebie once you've had a baker's dozen.

What an amazing treat to find!…read more I actually don't really like cupcakes, I've always found them dry and boring and mostly about the pretty icing. However due to Graham's good will (and amazing marketing) with his YES equality buns, I couldn't resist at least paying a visit to his cute little stall on Coppinger Row. Guys, I've been eating the wrong damn cupcakes. These are AMAZING! Soft and *shudder* moist, with delicious icing that's just the right consistency and ratio to cake. I immediately went for the adorable Pride rainbow bun, and then lovely Graham went about telling me the other flavours. I was very close to buying the slice of rainbow cake but instead went for the WooWoo (complete with shot of vodka) and Pink Lemonade (with a butt on it, for whatever reason), along with the vanilla Pride cake. The lemonade was probably my favourite, but genuinely they were all so delicious, and really good value! I'm going to be back every week from now on. Fantastic stuff. Graham, open a shop!!

Staff at the stall were lovely-really friendly and efficient. There was an array of beautifully decorated cupcakes with flavours including vanilla, chocolate, lemon with lemon curd filling, carrot and pineapple, red velvet, banana. After much deliberation I settled on the classics-vanilla and chocolate. I had a choice of pink or purple for my vanilla cupcake. I should not be given difficult choices like this! It took a full minute of agonising before I decided on purple because it would match my top. And they say women aren't logical?!? Prices are a reasonable/average €2.50 per large cupcake. The cupcakes themselves look beautiful. They're just like in the photos here-really cute and decorated with little flowers. Very girlie! The chocolate was very very good-a light sponge cake (not very chocolately though) with a very good buttercream frosting. The vanilla was a disappointment. It had a really strange taste...kind of like times I've accidentally thrown too much vanilla into mixtures and they ended up bitter and with a slight aftertaste. Maybe it was just this particular batch? I'll have to try more....just to check. The below average vanilla nets them a 4 star rating. Potential for 5 star if my next ones are better :-)

I got a selection of 4 cupcakes (lemon, chocolate, strawberry and passionfruit) that were all delish!! I got their card and was so impressed I placed an order for a party I was throwing. My guests were very impressed and they were the talk of the evening. It was a themed party and they were able to match my colours perfectly. They supplied the tiered stand and all. They both looked and tasted fab. Almost too pretty to eat! YUM!

It's easier to…read morebrowse than either Kitchen Complements or Stock, its south of the Liffey competitors, due to the large floor space. Staff were very friendly and helpful and I was talked through the basics of the business, which are that it's Irish-owned, has several stores throughout the land, and makes all of its own extensive range of icings. I can vouch that the ready to roll one is really easy to use and goes on beautifully - my only issue is that I was advised to get two and a half times the quantity I needed, having asked for enough for a medium Christmas cake. So I have a rather large surplus of sweet white stuff and foresee a year of much cookie and cake decorating for the kids - up to the point I get tired of it and chuck it out no doubt. A word to the wise - the prices here are looking very good indeed, compared to Stock which is on the expensive side. I bought the exact same cookie presentation box here that I bought in Stock a day previously, it was 2.50 in Stock, and 1.85 here. The assistant I spoke to advised that keen pricing is part of the company ethos - and given how expensive confectionery goods can be, you can't argue with that. She also told me they are moving to a bigger premises further along the north quay in the new year - perhaps nearer the Italian Quarter. I'll definitely be making this by first stop for baking stuff in the future.

Looking over their case of baked treats, I decided to grab one and had a good experience, overall. I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon and perused the case for a moment, figuring out what was what and narrowing down what I wanted. The inside is a good size with a few tables and some stool seating. The inside is very much a café. It took over 10 minutes to get the woman behind the counter to take my order, but she was fairly busy prior to me walking in. She did a nice job answering my questions though and cashed me out quickly. Afterward, I found a stool and had a seat and waited no more than five minutes before she came over with a tray with everything I ordered! I ordered a custard slice and an Americano. The custard slice description is a golden and flaky puff pastry filled with fresh Irish Cream & Custard Sweet Fondant. The custard slice was nicely sized and had plenty of cream in the middle! I wish the top of the pastry wasn't hard though, it made eating it VERY messy and cumbersome, but it did taste good. The Americano paired nicely with my treat. Once I finished my mid-afternoon snack, I was told I could leave my dishes and they'd pick them up - a full-service café! Manning's Bakery is a cute little bakery/café serving up some delicious looking treats. I don't think I'd order the custard slice again - the top of the pastry being that hard made it cumbersome to bite and cut into and made a mess. The workers behind the counter were friendly enough but came off stressed out still. If I ever come back to Dublin and am in the area, I'd be willing to come back and try another one of their pastries or maybe a slice of one of their cakes!
