We always shop at Johnnie Brock's for our Halloween costumes every year. This is the place to be for all things Halloween so you can expect that it'll be busy this time of year. It's nicely separated and organized so you can find what you're looking for or wander through sections that interest you. My kids found new costumes and I got a throwback Lydia costume which was fun. The fitting room situation is always a little stressful there is a long line, rooms are small with curtains, and the employees have to unpack/pack all the costumes for you. I get that reduces theft and lost items it's just a small space for all of that. read more

The most helpful staff! I came in unexpectedly after needing some more balloons for a balloon arch. I originally ordered balloons on Amazon and ran out. I entered and noticed that they had singular balloons, and I was in need of a large bag of multicolored balloons. I explained my situation to one of the staff members and she walked me back to the non seasonal (non- Halloween) items. She took the time to try and color match and pick out the best options. They didn't have exact matches, so we problem solved and I went with all silver which complimented the colors I already had. It ended up looking really great! Quality of balloons was great and thick. Their e a bit pricy but was still more affordable than having someone else build one for me. Parking can be a bit confusing and tight, as the lot is directly off of the highway ramp. Halloween all year long, 24/7?! Yes please! Driving into St Louis we spotted Johnie Brock's from the highway and put it on the list of things to visit. You'll find every costume need here, from all sizes to accessories, make up, wigs and decor. Prices of items seem comparable to what I'd find online or at a local spot in Louisville. The best part is seeing it up close being at the store versus a computer screen. Plenty of workers throughout the store to assist if you need help. Dressing rooms available but some items need to be purchased prior to trying them on (mainly saw this tag on wigs). The store is massive so it may be best for you to come with a few ideas in mind, or to only come when you don't have to rush. Small parking lot on side of store and some spaces out front. read more

My cousin told me she was searching for Elf accessories that she could wear when volunteering at the USO's Christmas event. I told her I'd swing by Johnnie's and see what I could find. This place legitimately has everything you could possibly want and or need to make your Halloween a spooktacular time. At a 10,000 foot overview, I love the general layout of Johnnie Brock's. They make it very easy to locate exactly what you're looking for while you are shopping. Their aisles are laid out by theme. Within those themes you can find costumes and accessories that relate somehow to everything from superheroes to pirates. What I think is great about this is that even if you don't have an exact idea of a costume you'd like, you can get in a general area of things that interest you, whether that's Star Wars or Egyptian pharaohs. Johnnie Brock's is also a great place to shop because it caters to such a wide range of Halloween lovers. If you are the type of person who likes to walk into a shop and purchase a mass produced costume with all the accessories and clothing needed, they can absolutely help you out. Maybe you prefer hand making your costumes for more autonomy on the look and feel of what you're going as, they offer so many high quality items that you can find whatever item you might be looking for. Absurd prices and they do NOT take returns, so if you change your mind on your costume or it doesn't work as you thought you would, it's money thrown in the trash. When it comes time for Halloween, though I completely despise dressing up, I usually have to go somewhere to get some sort of semi-costume-y outfit. When it comes that time, I do ANYTHING I can possibly do to avoid JB's. Why, you ask? The parking situation alone gives me nightmares as I've almost hit a moving car on two separate occasions and I've almost been run over (on foot) once. Major headache material. Yesterday, to my dismay, as I was walking into the place a girl dressed as a giant squirrel jumped out from behind the door with a "GO CARDINALS! WELCOME TO JOHNNIE BROCK'S!" What she could have just said was, "HI! I JUST POPPED OUT FROM BEHIND THIS DOOR TO SCARE THE F*** OUT OF YOU. Isn't that funny?! WELCOME!" I did not enjoy, and I also don't enjoy that freaky fake old lady with her mouth hanging open rocking back and forth right when you walk in. It's Halloween, I get it, but that thing is just disgusting and disturbing. I guess the jury is in and they determined I'd rather get treats than deal with the tricks. The plus side of JB's is that they have one hell of a selection. Slutty everything, if that's what you're into, which I am not. I did, however, score some awesome life-like fake blood and cool net arm things to wear at Yelp's Chiller Theater in KC on Wednesday. Was pretty cheap, too! That isn't a trend though, as their costumes are expeeeeensive. And you can't return them, either, so make sure to try them on in the awkward dressing rooms to make sure everything fits. You can get what you need for Halloween here, definitely, but you have to deal with massive crowds of parents with screaming kids, couples picking out their matching costumes, and just overall madness. I know this review makes me sound like the Grinch of Halloween, but I really just don't love the hassle of it all. I never knew this was a shop year round! I just thought Johnnie Brock's opened for Halloween and maybe Mardi Gras, but it really is open year round! How fun. I am glad that my first visit was with a friend who had been before because I had no idea where the door was or how to get it. It was actually kind of scary and I almost got side-tracked at the liquor store next door. Liquor always calls my name! Upon entering I was so excited to see all the awesome-ness! So many party supplies! This is seriously like a Party City on crack or something! Now I know where to shop when I throw my next party! I was shopping for Mardi Gras and there was an entire room filled with Mardi Gras supplies, beads, boas, cups, etc. I was so excited to see the selection. Thank you Johnnie! You saved my Mardi Gras! I could have gotten lost inside, but thankfully my friend made sure we only got what we needed which didn't give me much time to wander off as I tend to do normally. The staff were friendly and offered to help me find stuff, not that I needed help, but it was a nice gesture. I found what I needed and went to cash out but of course I had to check out the entire selection and noticed they have everything in here! The store is decked out with Halloween costumes and things to make your costume or celebration amazing! They have costumes ranging from kids sizes all the way to plus size adult sizes! They have everything from princess to pirate to star fish to a m&m! They really do have everything here!! They have costumes that you can rent or buy! They have wigs, blood, piercings, crowns, hats, masks, pretty much everything! All sales are final so they do encourage you to try everything on and know you can't bring stuff back. I should start off by saying Party Supply stores are kind of weird places. Maybe JBs weirds me out cause it's just too darn spooky calling itself a Dungeon? JK, it's the smell of latex and cheap costumes. I kind of loathe it. Despite me being a diva, JBs has it all. From spooky ghouls and weapons to Donald Trump cut-outs, it's a great place to explore. Most recently I came in here to pick up some body glitter for my crew going to see Queen Bey. Yes, she killed it but my review isn't for that. Another time....it was pretty busy since we're nearing Halloween. I came it and went straight to the make-up case where the body glitter expert consulted me on what would work best. One of the coolest shops of this type I have ever been in. Extensive collection of just about anything you need. It was so much fun just walking around and looking. I asked if they rent out for corporate events and parties and they said they do. I could see that being a good time. From the innocent, to the funny, to the scary, to the raunchy, these guys have everything. Also look no further for your Santa suit or your ugly xmas wear, these guys have it all. It was amazing. The prices are definitely not cheap, you can drop some serious coin in here but if you catch a clearance deal, you actually are probably getting a deal considering how much some of this gear will run you to acquire. read more

I recently picked up some killer creepy Santa accessories for the STL holiday shindig that would make Billy Bob Thornton look like George Clooney. On my most recent trip, I came here for some St. Paddy's accessories and a pinup costume. Random, I know! When you work a lot of events, you tend to have a need for strange things... 'tis my life! During Halloween season, the costume selection is much more expansive. But you can still find most of what you'd need here all year 'round. Found some fun green sunglasses for March 17 and a cute little sailor getup for a burlesque show tomorrow night. The gals who work here don't mess around - they will get you in and out quickly. When Johnny Brock's Dungeon moved into it's current location on Jefferson, I thought it was going to be one of those transient Halloween stores that pop up in September and is in November. Well, this place proved me wrong. They have stuff all year round. Halloween is definitely their heyday...they have more costumes than you could imagine...for kids and adults, and for women they carry more than just those "sexy nurse", "sexy prisoner", etc. costumes! There is also a huge number of wigs, makeup, and decorations to choose from. Be careful at Halloween though...don't wait until the day before to head to Johnny Brocks...the line was about 100 people long! They turn over their inventory quickly based on the time of year, Mardi Gras, St. Paddys, and now it looks like their summer stuff is coming out. Usually at the beginning of a new season, they have sales or clearances on any of last year's stuff that didn't sell, so keep your eyes peeled! I don't understand the lower reviews this place gets, I have been shopping at this location for a few years now, and the worse complaint I have about this place is the parking. Each year I come here to find a Halloween costume and / or costume ideas and accessories. the prices are high, but very comparable to other Halloween shops and prices, and man they have one of the largest selections of costumes I have ever seen. they have tons of employees working to assist you and they have dressing rooms that you can try your costume on, its best you do because there are NO refunds or exchanges on the costumes, so make sure its what you want. they are open year round which is nice, and they offer decorations too for ALL holidays even obscure ones I'm sure. read more

NOT safe to shop here!!!! At the entrance to the store, they make you check your purse at the door so that CUSTOMERS don't steal anything. When I picked up my purse after shopping, my phone was missing. We called the phone, and it went straight to voicemail because someone had turned it off. The worst part of all isn't that my phone was stolen from "a secure purse check area," but that I was treated like a crazy person by the staff and security at Johnnie Brock's. I even spoke with the owner Ed Brock and he basically called me a liar. I don't recommend shopping there for your Halloween needs but if you absolutely have to, make sure you don't let them have your purse. Put it in the trunk of your car instead. read more

When you're in the holiday spirit, it helps having, well, spirits right next door. The inventory here is in a warehouse. This means that there's no real air conditioning, but the selection is endless. I used to like the Hampton Village location better, but I believe they've consolidated it's inventory and staff into this location. If you have not been here...go!! Honestly I love the Halloween season, but I have gone here to get things for bachelorette parties, birthday parties and several themed parties throughout the year! The Halloween season gives this place the upper hand with extra scary decorations and endless amounts of frightening items to choose from! If you aren't in to scary, there are many other choices from hilarious costumes to cute and sexy outfits. Don't forget they have kids costumes, and outfits for your other children (your pets)! I loved this place. Just last year I would drive here from St. Charles at least once a week in October. So, although I don't have big Halloween plans this year, I saw the commercial asking people to support their business during these tough times. So, I decided to go to one of my favorite stores to do my part. I bought a few masks and a few other items....If your employees can't handle other people having a different political opinion than them then this isn't a store that I can support. My mom and I both bought political merch and BOTH employees were rude. My 10 year old is more mature and tolerant than these people. Next time I won't drive past those pop up shops. read more
