I would have more than likely ended up with a colostomy and other issues. Dr. Abel did everything he could to avoid that including flying back from the east coast to personally do my surgery. My gi doc later told me other surgeons would have just started cutting in order to cover their butt in case I were to become more ill later on down the road; just remove the problem. I ended up keeping all of my intestines and am now in complete remission. I'm forever grateful. Everytime he would come into my room during my month long stay I felt an overwhelming sense of trust. He gave me hope when I was at my lowest point in life. I could never begin to thank him enough.

After my second procedure on a Friday, the pain was gradual but became severe after I got home. I called the office twice that day and was promised a callback, but no one ever called me back. I am now forced to spend the entire weekend in pain with absolutely no medical guidance. Crucially, I was given zero post-op instructions, absolutely no feedback on the procedure, and no medication guidance or analgesics were prescribed during either consultation. Expecting a doctor to answer basic questions about current pain and recovery shouldn't be dismissed so handily.

When you call the phone is answered by a real person, Juana, who is a true gem, and very helpful. Dr. Gendelman is competent and confident. He voluntarily explains his diagnosis and treatment suggestions with the medical information I need. This allows me to follow up with my own research so I can better understand and trust what I'm being told. He is not bothered or patronizing when I come in with my strong opinions, self-diagnoses and attitude, and he listens and hears what I have to say. In 30 years, he is also the first physician to successfully treat my high blood pressure. And he doesn't humiliate me with the "let's step on the scale" routine, or make me sit naked in a cold room with a paper gown for company. He keeps his schedule and while efficient, is caring and thorough.

I love the vintage chairs in his office! They're just a comforting touch. So, I went into Dr. Maeck's office because my regular GP, was unavailable and his assistant, though surface-level nice, is inefficient with getting my prescriptions refilled. Prescriptions that I need to keep my body alive. I also had a recent issue health-wise. When I explained my recent experiences with my other GP, Dr. Maeck didn't just listen he took action. He literally walked me over to his referral source so I could be seen ASAP.
