I usually don't leave reviews, but my experience at this "acting studio" bothered so much, I refuse to stay silent. I went in for a consultation because I was looking for a new acting studio to attend in person. It was a horrible experience. John has a predatory approach and it seemed like I was purposely excluded and not understood. He asked me what I do for work and recommended more expensive private lessons with another one of his teachers. I also spoke to a friend who had a consultation before and they told me he treated them the same way. There are way better acting studios in Los Angeles. He's always asking people about their occupation to see how much money he can get out of you. The consultation didn't help me with anything and I left feeling scammed. read more

1 star is required to leave review, it's more like -5 black holes. Went to audit and meet with John -he was so incredibly rude and scathing. I'm not talking about constructive criticism, I mean just blatantly judgmental about my weight, before I even spoke one word (temporary weight loss due to an illness). Nasty attitude, very condescending. Seems to use the 'break them down & build them back up to be completely dependent on him for their sense of self worth' technique. It' didn't work on me. I never went back. He has a handful of two-line costars from 10+ years ago. I don't know why anyone drinks his kool-aid. Actors, you're making your own success, not this guy. He has a mommy "wife" who waits on him at his studio of minions. It's very cult-like. He doesn't actually even teach, he just reenacts the show Friends in his "classes." Anyone can do that on Netflix in their own living room for $8.99/monthly. Run. read more

John is an okay coach. But he has a weird obsession for Latina actresses, which I find it extremely disturbing and uncomfortable. I will never return to his studio because of that. He is very full of himself and I find him extremely creepy by the comments he was making. read more

John is a great coach. I've had good coaching sessions and bad coaching sessions where I felt my friends could have done the same job. But that's what it is - coaching. The classes here are a money making enterprise and you should be aware of that going in. I took an audition class and I almost walked out because I expected a CLASS but it's just a place to practice auditioning with the equivalent of an experienced friend. This a great studio to study at. I found myself in an acting rut and two months into study here I booked two really high profile jobs back to back. I have worked and studied all over the world. I've been working as an actor for 37 years. I have studied at a lot of different Schools, Academies and Studios. The tools that John and all the amazing working actor faculty give you here are very hands on, very tactile and accessible. Knowledge is relayed to us through humor which is the best part. I've gone to a ton of studios in Los Angeles and this has by far been my favorite. I've been going here for 3 years + now. Where to begin. Firstly, John is an incredible teacher. He takes the time to get to know each of his students and has an uncanny way of understanding their strengths and weaknesses and tailoring their class work to grow and push each of us.
