You could tell they were theater folk. and check in was easy. There is a small snack stand but it's better if you go get food before the show. Because pickings are slim. Great little theater off Melrose in the Fairfax area of Los Angeles... bordering West Hollywood…read more You'll notice a white building with a blue sign as well as blue writing on the building and a huge billboard right above of the building (non-related)... There's a small theater space just right of the main attraction/bigger theater - where you might enjoy stage plays, productions and improv as I did the other night in support of my friend Adam L. Haskins and co. Me and my friend Ryan arrive super early and managed to find some meter parking right on Melrose Avenue / Vista Street just before the theater (how we managed that I will never know).. There is residential area parking on the side streets with very few restrictions after 8 PM which is when the show started. When you enter you'll see a cool mural to the left of Hollywood, some outdoor benches and an additional sign right underneath the main doors. They have a single gender neutral bathroom for guest on the outside + 2 other restrooms I'm guessing closer to performance space for performers as well as crew (very common in smaller theaters all over LA). I couldn't say the exact number of seating available when I walked in but with only two to three rows I'd say less than 100 but definitely more than 60...(74 according to their site which is pretty organized). The Improv show was amazing and only about an hour, but they also had a comedy show going on at the same time at the small theater just next door to the Zephyr... The stepped out to ask us to be mindful post show as we were chatting amongst ourselves as well as performers... oddly enough a bunch of sirens went by as they were asking us to politely continue our conversations a few more feet away... I lol'd so hard. If not for knowing one of the performers (technically two) I don't think I would've know of their Open House Improvisation Show with the Turbine Improvisers on the 1st as their social media presence isn't as up to date as their amazing website. For the Improv Open House night they had a suggested donations which I thought was cool - happy to support the arts! Overall definitely would come again and see more performance art of all varieties day or night - hours tend to vary but usually start around 8PM or later from what I've seen on the Upcoming Show list as well as previous ones. Q Tips (as disclosed by the Zephyr): "The Zephyr Theatre does not run the box office for these productions please contact the ticketing site or producers of the shows directly with any ticketing questions. Thank you!" "Currently masks are recommended, but optional (according to L.A. County guidelines)."

The theater is so small there is no need to be the volume it is at. My friend with me had the same experience. The acts are a crapshoot. I came months ago and i laughed a lot and had a good time. This time i was bored and hardly laughed at all. Kept wondering how these skits made it to the show. Like a lot of other reviews mention, it's fairly cheap, so it's worth the crapshoot on the chance it could be good. But go in with low expectations.

The training and acting methods, the teachers, and the students all challenged me to grow as an actor in a safe and supportive environment. I highly recommend both Annie and Diane and their classes. Commercial Workshop with Annie: Even though the workshop is one day, Annie fills the day with such great advice and on-your-feet work. She gives great general audition tips and specific feedback to each person to help you grow. She helps to demystify the types of commercial auditions so you can focus less on "did I do it right" and more on having fun with the audition (which is why we do it!). Advanced Intensive with Diane: Diane is a gem. In a month, she was able to pull out such emotional depth in my performances. She is kind and nurturing in a way that is constructive without being judgmental or mean. You can tell Diane is a teacher for all the right reasons and really believes in all her students. Every student gets different notes and redirects, which also exposes the entire class to so many different tools to use when auditioning or preparing a scene at home. The students in the class also brought such a warmth and generosity to the class, which I think speaks volumes to the types of students that the studio attracts. After this class, I have a clear method for preparing for an audition and feel more confident in myself as an actor!

I was looking for a worthwhile yet affordable acting class and found The Actors Company after…read moreauditing a few other classes in the LA area. I found them through a friend who did a voiceover workshop there, and I am so grateful I did! The acting coach, Joe Salazar, really takes an individualistic approach toward each actor, learning more about them with each class and allowing them to develop in a way that works best for them rather than using a more blanketed or singular approach. He delves into each characters' truths, guides you through building the world in a scene, and understanding what your characters are fighting for. Joe is phenomenal, and one thing I especially appreciated was that he knew how to support you without coddling you and critic you without discouraging you. He and this actor's haven are truly a hidden gem. This is not the type of acting class where you can get by doing only 50% of the work. He expects a lot out of the actors that come in and does not shy away from challenges that ultimately help you realize your potential. I would recommend anyone who is serious about acting to check out The Actors Company.

Unacceptable: Racism, verbal abuse, and physical aggression from staff…read more I had a terrible and completely unacceptable experience at Candela La Brea. Due to an Uber address mix-up, we ended up at this location by mistake. Upon arriving near closing time, we just asked if we could come in for a drink as we believed this was a bar: After being told it was a private event, I calmly tried to explain our Uber mistake. Instead of handling the situation professionally, a female staff member completely lost her temper. She started screaming at us, talked to us terribly, and physically aggressed us and telling us to go away. Given the unprovoked hostility and the way she treated us, I strongly believe her behavior was racially motivated because we are not from America. She tried to physically attack us. Her actions were so completely out of line and unwarranted that even several guests from the private event came over to apologize to us for her deplorable conduct. No one should ever be subjected to discrimination, verbal abuse, or violence over a simple misunderstanding. I highly advise avoiding this place, customer service, safety, and basic respect are completely nonexistent here. To make matters worse, I didn't even say a word to provoke her, she completely misdirected her anger at us just because of other people standing nearby. Being targeted, screamed at, and pushed when you haven't done or said a single thing is completely unhinged. She literally screamed right in our faces: "Hell no! Get the fuck out of here!"
