I've been seeing Dr. Sousa for years! I finally decided to do Invisalign to straighten out my bottom teeth and I couldn't be happier with the results! Throughout the process, Dr. Sousa monitored my bite and adjusted as needed. He was patient and a careful listener and in touch with what I was saying so that he could adjust everything accordingly. And finally, when I was done with Invisalign I wanted to shave down my very pointy eye teeth to be more rounded and subtle and Dr. Sousa was a true artist with a steady hand. Dr Sousa is awesome. He has been my dentist for years. He recently made me a 6 on 1 implant supported denture that is fixed to my jaw. It feels and looks GREAT. Dr. Sousa also is very accommodating. I am a basket case when it comes to the dentist. Dr. Sousa brings out the nitrice oxide if I need it & also allowed me to bring an anesthesiologist for big jobs I had done. Happy with results. I had braces for 2 and half years over 10 years ago and was never completely happy with my results. I came into Dr. Sousa's office about three years ago and right away felt comfortable with him and his staff. I complained about headaches and neck pain so Dr. Sousa sent me for an MRI which showed TMJ issues. Although the process to correct my TMJ was tedious, I followed Dr. Sousa's instructions and am now left with a better smile than what I had before and no more pain! He took out my wisdom tooth w/ease and I didn't experience any pain. He also shaved down my teeth and love the new look. I first met Dr. Sousa back in September, 2008. I arrived at his office in such awful pain and discomfort. I had been to many specialists and none of them were able to help me! There were 2 different appliances for different goals - 2 Phases of treatment. The first appliance relaxed my jaw muscles to relieve my symptoms, allowing my jaw to move into a naturally relaxed position. Once my symptoms were relieved, a second appliance maintained that position for 6 months, giving my muscles and joints time to stabilize. At that time, my teeth did not fit the same way, because my relaxed jaw was now in a comfortable, natural position. Phase II Orthodontics was now necessary to fit my teeth (bite) properly to the relaxed muscle position of my jaw. Orthodontics was clearly stated as part of a comprehensive treatment plan by Dr. Sousa, in the consent form and his craniofacial pain information form. When the required 6 months were over, I decided not to continue with braces - I just did not want braces. I felt I would be okay without them, he advised me of the consequences and to wear the appliance only at night, if needed. About 2 years later, when I was again very uncomfortable, I returned to Dr. Sousa to complete the treatment and have braces, which did align my teeth (bite) with my comfortable jaw position. I am completely happy with the treatment and care that I received through out the years. I highly recommend Dr. Sousa and his team for treatment of TMJD. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Sousa for over a decade, and he has helped me tremendously with my TMJ symptoms. He did braces for me, which helped correct my bite and expand my palette. He recommended seeing a atlas orthogonal chiropractor for my TMJ and it has brought a lot of relief- very forward thinking to link my TMJ with my forward head lean. Beware of this dentist. He is all about making money off of you. I am completely disappointmented in Dr. Sousa. I had been going to him since I was a little girl. Trusted every word that came out of his mouth. I never had any dental issues. Never wore or needed braces and never had a problem with my bite. I had a cleaning appointment one day and mentioned that I had a headache. He asked me if I had heard of TMJ. He explained what it was and said I may have it. He sent me to get a scan and called me into his office when he received the report. He told me that the report stated I had TMJ and that I would need a bite guard to start the process of making my TMJ better. Long story short, after a year or so of wearing the guard night and day, he stated I now needed braces to better my bite. I did not want braces and that is when I went to a TMJ specialist in fort Lee named Dr. Markman. Thank god I went to him. He did the evaluation, which took like 20 minutes, and stated that it did not seem like I had TMJ. He asked for a copy of the report of the scan Dr. Sousa sent me for. When he received the report Dr. Markman called me into the office and told me that the report clearly stated that I did not have TMJ. Dr. Markman said that my bite was completely ruined because of the guards Dr. Sousa made me wear. Dr. Sousa's plan was to mess up my bite and then fix it with braces just to get money out of me. I spent almost $3000 in those stupid splints because he made two. Do not trust this dentist. If you need someone in the area, Dr. Joel Singer in fort lee is amazing. Very honest and not out to get you for your money. He even said my bite is so messed up now and I'm going to needed braces to fix it. Thank you Dr. Sousa for the mess you created. Do not trust him. I cannot begin to explain how disappointed I was in my experience at Dr. Sousa's office on June 6, 2014. Never have I been treated so rudely by a dentist or any other professional for that matter. I went in for an Invisalign consultation and expressed to him that I was a serious buyer, interested in getting the treatment started right away. Dr. Sousa did a quick examination of my teeth and determined I would be a good candidate. He was not informative at all, so I repeatedly asked questions that I would have hoped would have automatically been explained by him. Instead, he was cold and even misleading when it came to price. I asked him if the treatment was around $3,000 based on my research and he balked, saying "No! It's more like $5,000." Then he just stared at me as if that was a deal breaker. I then asked him for an actual quote and he disappeared for a while. He came back without any paperwork, mumbling "It would be about $3500 for you." He never acknowledged or explained why he initially quoted me 5K. He then tried to get me to make a down payment on the treatment without rendering any initial services - not even x-rays or impressions. In fact, when his assistant asked him (in my presence) if she could start my impressions, he stared me down while responding to her and said "No, we're not doing anything today." He then behaved like an auctioneer, asking if I could make an $800 deposit - and when I said no, he said "what about $500?" I asked what my down payment was going toward, since I had not yet received a fee quote in writing and he said verbatim, "You get nothing, you just pay." I was obviously shocked at this statement, so I immediately got up and left his offices, never to return. I'm not sure what kind of scheme Dr. Sousa is running but his unprofessional was excessive to the point of discrimination. Never ever visit this awful place!! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. John Sousa for 20+ years. I have had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Sousa and his staff. He is extremely professional, knowledgeable and an excellent dentist. Being able to put my trust and confidence in someone is important to me. Going to the dentist is stressful enough, however, he is very gentle and puts you at ease during your visit....I've only had painless experiences!
