This is a small Vietnamese family-owned business. It's a great place for customers who want a cheap and quick, fresh cut. There may be a language barrier, so be aware of that if you're looking for something very specific. Overall the atmosphere is great, and there's also a restroom, but you're gonna be in and out! read more

Roger the guy by the window, he usually does the best. I ask for him. Wow today he said " meduim fade" when i said just trim it. He suggested that. Man he took off alllllllll my hair on my sides. What fade??????? Wheres the blend? Looks like a miltary hair cut almost. Wow. I look like a joke. Clown. Top way to high. I dont get what he did. I knew he went way to high the minute he first started. Wow. He said "meduim sometimes hair sometimes not" bro. No meduim has hair. I have no hair. I walked in with fulllllll hair. Like wow. Never coming back. He charged me 10$ still. LOST MY BUSINESS read more

John L Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Downey, California

Great prices and friendly staff. John and his wife are great barbers. Closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.

best place for a bad haircut. Asked the barber for low skin fade and he goes super high and just starts going to town on my hair. Nothing I can't really about it that point so I pay him and give him a tip. But after that never going to this place ever again read more

They are always ready to Give a haircut and get you on your way.Been Going to John for about 21 years when John was across the street . I recommend this Place read more

Went in a few days ago for a haircut before heading back to school. I asked for a slickback with a high fade, they gave me a low fade and a slickforward. I asked them to fix it and they only made it worse by continuing to cut more off the top even though it was never asked. Never coming back. The barbers are impossible to communicate with. read more

Always quick and friendly service. Good prices too. I moved out of area but drive in just for haircut with them.

My son usually goes to Imperial Barber shop, but his Barber was booked and couldn't fit my son before we left town. I was recommended here, and needless to say, this place was very disappointing. My son has a perfect lined mohawk before we walked in , and this lady just trimmed his hair in a lazy fast way. She didn't take the time and she pulled my son's hair. I guess you pay for what you get! Never again. read more

Great barbershop with really good prices. They are quick and effective. Gary helped me with my hair cut and I could tell he has had years of experience. I recommend to ask for Gary if you get a chance. He cut my hair like he's been cutting it for years. Great guy read more

Piece of the barber shop. They messed up my hair so many times and its about time I write a review about it. Do not get the two women to cut your hair, they don't even speak English properly. You really have to speak up about what you want else they'll destroy your hair and your confidence. read more

I've always came here to get a hair cut even before the pandemic and it was always a good place to go until very recently and it's this one guy with the head phones NEVER LET HIM CUT YOUR HAIR I never asked his name but He was immediately giving me an uncomfortable feeling and was very rough with me I hated him he even took a phone call while cutting my hair and when I tell you I asked for a medium fade and an inch off the top this man gives me a high fade and cuts off nearly 2/3's of my hair!! He should be fired he cut my hair like he was in a rush let me repeat NEVER LET THE GUY WITH THE HEADPHONES CUT YOUR HAIR You're better off getting one of the girls, John, or literally anyone else I will not be coming back, sorry John but you're employee with the headphones has ruined my hair and self-confidence (and John if you need a reminder to when he cut my hair it was Monday April 3rd at approximately 5:00pm) read more

John L Barber Shop - They all do a good job here - Barbers Near Me - Downey, California

The cut and the wait was not bad. Customer service is BAD. All they do talk about their customers in their language, so that we don't understand. No one wanted to cut my son's hair because he is a toddler, but they wouldn't just be straight up from the beginning. The guy that DID agree to cut my son's hair, refused to tell me his name. All he did was talk bad and laugh at us as we paid and walked out. Won't be going back to this place, where they treat people like crap. I'll take my money somewhere else. read more

The haircuts here are quick. High fade, short on top and in a few minutes you'll be out the door. The only problem I have with this place is a lack of checking in. When you step through their doors you have to make sure you memorize the people that were there before you and the ones that came in after you. If you don't then you'll be skipped. There is no sign in sheet so be warned. read more

They do a great and wonderful job. They can cut hair and the price is reasonable. I would come back and definitely tell people to stop by.

Ended up stopping by here one day as I searched around the neighborhood for barber shops. Lucky of me to do so, because it is now my go to place now for whenever i need a nice fade. The barbers know what they are doing and the haircuts are great! Least to say I am so glad i found this place. They are also one of the few that are open on Sundays!! read more

Will never go back to this place again, nor will my nephews or cousins. Was told today by the head barber(John) that I couldn't get a haircut today because his chairs weren't strong enough to hold me. Left immediately didn't argue or anything and in front of another customer to top it off. read more

I would not recommend this shop to anyone, they are rude and disrespectful...My cousin tried to get a haircut and he was told in front of other customers that the chair was not strong enough to hold him... They did not try to accommodate him in anyway. They turned him away and would not give him a haircut... Sounds like they don't want business, what a shame... read more

I am giving this place a two stars not because the price and or the haircuts. Just the customer service is terrible. They don't have a list to sign in so there are times where they pass you up and forgotten. I went in with my son on a Saturday and they passed me up and I told the barber my son is next and he told me I can wait. I told him look man I have been waiting for a while and so not appreciate you passing me up for someone who waited less. They just spoke bad about me in Vietnamese. I have seen this happen many times where they want to rush to the next customer and forget about who comes in and who is next. Seen customers fighting about who is next and who has waited longer. Avoid the hassle and go somewhere else. read more

Been cutting my hair with John and his team for 11 years now. Don't pay attention to the negative review lol

I used to go to this place a lot, the two young guys in the back are great. Can't say the same for everybody, guy in front cut my hair, just told him I wanted a "low taper fade", and he kept cutting my hair unevenly with the line not straight at all. He kept insisting I get a higher taper each time he attempted to fix it(which I might as well asked for a high taper). After about 4 tries he sent me to his colleague barber. She wasn't much help: hair came out buzzed, uneven, glob of gel to cover it up. Whole thing took 2 hours. Once I asked if I could have a small discount for the mess ups and wait, owner looked at me like I was crazy, blamed me for not choosing a picture on the wall, and proceeded with, "Don't come back." Still left a tip though. read more

I would not recommend anyone going here who likes their hair very specific. I was displeased at the work they did on my hair given the fact that I asked for a cut so simple. Also not a friendly environment. read more
