The doctors are decent--but the front desk and billing staff make every visit stressful. The front desk and billing practices are consistently unprofessional, disorganized, and frankly, disrespectful. Every visit turns into a stressful encounter about money. Despite repeatedly requesting a bill for over three months, I've never received one--yet I'm harassed for payment every time I come in for allergy shots. I've left several messages for their billing department, with zero response. The front desk once made me wait 30 minutes because I refused to pay without a bill. The staff fumbled with their system, unable to print or email the statement they claimed existed. Another time, while I was parking, the receptionist told my young daughter to tell me that I "owe them money." That level of insensitivity and lack of privacy is unacceptable. Many families bring in anxious children, yet the environment is cold and transactional. Administrative staff could make such a difference by doing the basics--say hello, smile, make eye contact, and show understanding. After four years as a patient, I'm now finding a different allergist. For a practice in the Bay Area--where excellent, patient-centered care is easy to find--this experience was shockingly poor. South Bay Allergy has wonderful doctors, but unless the administration completely overhauls how they treat patients, they'll continue losing them.

Year after year, I suffered so much from allergies and never expected to find the relief I'm now experiencing. Dr Xu is my favorite doctor (I have several) and has helped me get my symptoms under control. Her care has been positively life changing. I have complete confidence in her expertise. She is a highly skilled and sought after expert in the Bay Area. Her practice has a few locations in the South Bay which makes scheduling very convenient. Her staff is well trained, friendly and helpful. Dr Xu is thorough, takes time with each of her patients, she's kind, compassionate and very professional. She has excellent communication skills and explains things in an understandable manner. I never feel rushed and always feel like she truly cares about me and my overall health. I highly recommend Dr Xu and the team at South Bay Allergy and Asthma Group. Five Stars all around!

I'm so disappointed in Dr Xu and all her practices…read more First of all, she added herself onto my care team without prior consent or as much as to even ask me or speak to me. I just received an email saying that she's been added to my care team even though she's not in network. Secondly, to charge my insurance $3,000 for allergy testing is completely insane, I understand prices have gone up but to blatantly price gouge , shame on you. These people only care about one thing and that's money! Dr Xu was not personable, was snappy when I called about lab work she ordered for tests that don't even exist (how are you an allergist and you don't know that these tests you've ordered don't even exist, like there is no lab that provides these tests at all). And on top of that provided my primary care doctor a rude note of my visit with her. I did not consent to this either it just happened.

Cons: She gets confused easily and is confusing to listen to, I'm not sure why she has this problem but she sometimes doesn't always seem to make sense or be thinking clearly and logically. When in waiting room and no one's at front desk to answer phone I sometimes hear deeply personal messages sent to her answering machine from patients (which is on and loud). This has got to be a serious legal violation of some sort. The doors are not closed during appointments and I often hear people's personal information loud and clear from my appointment.

I recently got a new job that's a 9-6, and told them because of this I didn't know when I could go in to get my allergy shots. Well dr. Del Mundo and her staff quickly tried to accommodate things for me and offered to stay a little extra time for me on Thursdays so long as I gave them the heads up. I don't know of any doctor who would ever do this for a patient. She is truly one of a kind! She is the sweetest doctor, & always asks about my day, & how I'm doing every time she sees me come in. Not many doctors take the time or make these kind of efforts for a patient. They've really made me feel like family here, & I am so very fortunate to see them for my care.

TL;DR: If you have severe environmental/pollen allergies like me, please see a different doctor…read more The front desk and injection folks here are extremely nice! I enjoyed coming here because of them and if I could review their service alone, I would give them 5 stars. The medical practice here however, is questionable and outdated. I have severe environmental allergies. The person taking my test actually told me I had the worst reaction they've ever seen. Dr. Chu, although friendly, decided I needed to be put through allergy injections. At first, I was progressing through my injections well but this stalled and I even went backwards in my progress after a while. I was constantly going up and down in dosage because my reactions were bad. I was being given one shot in each arm to cover my entire list of environmental allergies. My reactions towards the end were terrible. My injection site would swell up to itchy golf ball sized lumps. After almost two years of coming weekly, and me stalling in progress, I decided to see another doctor. This new doctor was shocked that Dr. Chu was giving me only two shots and said it made sense I had such terrible reactions (turns out I needed my injections mixed into 4 weekly shots, not 2). They were also shocked Dr. Chu did not prescribe me an epipen. The new standard when receiving allergy treatments is to carry an epipen with you for the car ride home. I basically could have died if I continued with Dr. Chu's treatments. After starting over my treatment with this new doctor, my reactions have been less severe and I have not had to get my dosage adjusted down at any point. Progression at this new doctor is steady and I reached my maintenance dose in under a year which is not something I would have ever been able to do with Dr. Chu.

The visit was underwhelming, strange, and exorbitantly charged for the services rendered. My husband and I sat there while Dr. Chu probed and prodded, and pondered whether my eczema was because of scabies. His energy was questionable and curt, and that would've been fine if it weren't for how uncertain he conveyed everything. At the end, we weren't able to walk away with a confident diagnosis, and he ended up prescribing some corticosteroid meds. I checked in with him if it was safe to take because of my pregnancy, and he confirmed that it was. When I arrived at the pharmacy to pick those up, the pharmacist took a second look and concernedly asked if I was sure I wanted to take this on account of the side effects that it may have produced during my pregnancy. I decided against it and to ride out my symptoms. The visit ended up being a complete waste of time and energy, and although I ended up with a more reasonable co-pay thanks to my insurance adjustments, the original charge ended up being $482.00. For a bizarre experience.
