First off I NEVER have written a SINGLE review on any thing at any time. Ever. That said, HLAD IS INCREDIBLE. They have been to my house three times in two weeks to unhook a gas line, rehook a gas line, unhook a gas line and rehook the same line. They were awesome, on time, made it easy and helped me install a new washer/dryer. Awesome people, awesome job worth EVERY penny. read more

Multiple issues encountered with a small service. Price charged was not transparent and not justified. Charged for multiple visits and multiple hours work even though whole job required about about 1 hour. Did sloppy work and the reason we I got on a crooked pipe (open and visible radiator pipe is poorly installed and crooked) and the response I got was "crooked pipes are within my margin". Oh and to top it off- the repair person threw a tantrum. read more

These guys are my HEROES! We had a leak in our bathroom ceiling. We initially called another plumbing company because they had done work in the apartment upstairs, but the other plumbers were here for two hours and didn't figure it out. Then a few days later the leak happened again. HLAD was here for 10 minutes and found the leak from upstairs. Their service is expensive, but they are worth EVERY penny. I will never use another plumber. Thank you HLAD! They are so good at what they do. read more

John Hlad Plumbing and Heating installed a new Burnham steam boiler and AO Smith water heater for me. They did a thoroughly professional job. They had the equipment to load everything in through the yard hatch, so there was minimal disruption for me. they also did an excellent cleanup job before they left so I did not have to do anything. Their price was within the ballpark for this kind of installation. They will return in the fall once the heating season starts just to check that everything is working A-OK. I cannot recommend them more highly. read more

Extraordinary. We had a surprise leak under our kitchen sink cabinet on a Saturday. Tiny apt., so any mishap feels tremendous. We asked for plumber recommendations and so many neighborhood people recommended Hlad. We put in a few calls to a few places because we wanted this fixed fast. Hlad called us a few hours later and said they were nearby and that they could come right then! Within a minute (no exaggeration), they saw the problem. The pipe was rotted (and I couldn't tell that it was, but it was). They changed the pipe and were all finished in less than 45 minutes. Incredible. Also, no small thing, the guys were very, very nice. So grateful for today's experience. read more

When a leak was discovered in the gas piping of our brownstone co-op, National Gas had to shut down the service, leaving us without heat, hot water, and cooking gas. It was cold in January. Luckily, we called John Hlad Plumbing. Joe came out right away, the repair plan was explained clearly, work was started, the repairs were made and approved by National Grid, and we had heat, hot water, and stoves again. A relief for four families! As an architect I've known decades of construction trades--good, bad, and indifferent. John Hlad Plumbing is among the absolute best. They were prompt, very knowledgeable, skilled, and very cost competitive. And pleasant to work with. John Hlad Plumbing and Heating will now handle all such issues for this building. read more

Was referred to Hlad by a trusted source. Setting up the appointment took a couple follow-ups and there was no confirmation call, but they did show up on time so 2 stars for that. Joe came to find the source of a leak in our tenant apartment. A couple days later, a younger guy (son?) came to fix it with an assistant. It was a terrible fix for $1,200 charge. We figured we'd get quality work for the money but no. The pipe protruded right where the wall is, so we couldn't seal the wall properly. They also added two valves in a U-shape --- it was heavy, clunky, crooked and added unnecessary costs seeing that we already have a drain valve outside and a stop-valve at the front of the room. Their pipe ended up freezing and busting at one of the elbow joints (those joints can't be insulated). When I called to inform them, they couldn't come until the following week to fix. We were headed out of town and needed it fixed that week so we brought another plumber in to fix and streamline their sloppy work for another $500. When I called to inform Joe, he didn't seem to care and defended his work. I followed up a couple other times requesting some money back out of principal for the extra $500 fix, but nothing. Disappointing experience to say the least read more

Great company to deal with, the owner Joe Sr. is hands on. The did a boiler installation in my home and I was very pleased with the professional and neat job the did. They came on time and finished in a timely manner so I didn't have to deal with no heated for an extended amount of time. I would highly recommend John Hlad Plumbing company to anyone who is looking for professional and honest people. read more

Excellent work, friendly guy and team. Joe fixed several things on my apartment including a faucet leak and a clogged shower, plus he showed me how to empty the boiler. Last year he even notice that the boiler wasn't exhausting properly and recommended an excellent person to fix the chimney. All around very knowledgeable. read more

Good people, knows what he's doing, fair pricing! They know about old school radiators and boilers and helped address a major blockage.

The hot water heater in our brownstone sprung a leak overnight and flooded the basement. I turned off the main water pipe and called Hlad around 9 am based on a recommendation from our major appliance repair guy. A Hlad truck with two young guys appeared two hours later and they efficiently installed a new 50 gallon A.O Smith heater to replace our broken one. By 1 pm, the new heater was operational and the old heater was removed and taken away. Price was $1300. I did not comparison shop on price but felt the work was very professional. Joe the owner gave me an estimate over the phone. read more

JOB NUMBER ONE: The first time I used Hlad Plumbing was on 1/27/2020 to install a hot water heater and they were FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY. The company is owned and run by Joey Sr. and Joey Jr. Joey Jr. did this job. He and his assistant were polite, professional and did an EXCELLENT job. The price for the excellent job they did was superb. JOB NUMBER TWO: I had what I thought was a gas leak in the basement. Joey Sr. (there is Joey Sr. and Joey Jr. ) checked EVERY gas joint on ALL the pipes with professional gas detecting equipment and told me that I have NO leak. He then told me it was a dead mouse! What a relief. Other plumbers told me that they'd have to change pipes and do all kinds of other expensive things. Jus like his son, Joey Sr. is an honest guy, THIRD JOB: While doing some landscaping in my front yard, I discovered an old, capped pipe just below the level of the dirt. It must have been there for ages since the house was built in 1931. I assumed it was the gas line going to the gas lantern light poles we used to have in front of the house in the old days, I called a few plumbers who said it was probably a gas pipe and they'd have to have the gas company shut off and lock my gas. Then get permits from the city to do the job which would have cost MANY thousands of dollars. I know this because it happened to a neighbor of mine. So, I called Hlad Plumbing and reached Joey Sr. He came over, looked at the pipe, told me it was an old WATER pipe that hadn't been used for ages. He tore the cap off to relieve my worries about it being gas and that was it. So, once again, what you get from Hlad Plumbing is excellent, professional work with the added bonus of HONESTY which is very hard to find these days when it comes to contractors, electricians, roofers, plumbers or anyone doing work on your home. Whenever I finds a great company for home repairs of any kind, I keep them on a list and share that list with with friends and relatives. I strongly suggest you put Hlad Plumbing on YOUR list and not lose their number. I've been around for 71 years and have dealt with all kinds of repair people for both my house and my vehicles. When you find a great one, you keep their number and you do not go elsewhere, Thank you Joey for yet ANOTHER great job. Well done read more

Honest team of guys. Had an issue with a leak and they helped out. There customer service was on top of things as well. Priced on the high end, but they are professionals. I do recommend. read more

We had a great experience with this company. We thought we had a leak in a wall and placed a call for them to come as soon as possible. They arrived within a couple of hours, assessed the situation and found out that only the flushing system in one of our toilets was broken. They installed a new one for a reasonable price and we're done shortly there after. I would highly recommend these guys! read more

A young guy named Joe and his assistant, Omar, came out to fix our sink and a few other leaks around the house. They got here on time, got everything fixed, and were patient with my questions as well as my son bouncing off the walls while they were working. They took a look at a few other valves and things too, and were cool about telling us which things needed fixing now and which ones might attention in a year or two but weren't immediate concerns. That's always a reassuring sign. So, 5 stars for being punctual, efficient, and honest. And just nice, easy-going guys to deal with. I wish more doctors and dentists had their approach to customer service. read more

Truly great service! Knowledgable, on top of every job, great communication, and gracious, helpful, and friendly. Joe saw us through purchasing and installing a new boiler, and returned as needed for any follow-up. I'll go to Joe at Hlad first for every future job. read more

Two plumbers dismissed my shower pressure problem as unfixable and recommended expensive shower body replacement. The third, from John Hlad, came over to give us an estimate for a shower body replacement. He quoted a considerably lower figure, paused, and said "Let my guys try to fix it first and save you a lot of headache and money." The next day, his guys came over and fixed it! They were friendly, followed all COVID precautions, and efficient. I would call John Hlad Plumbing & Heating again in a heartbeat. read more

We called Joe senior, to get an estimate for installing a pedestal sink and to fix the faulty dripping Flushmaster for our toilet. We made an appt for 2 days later. His son Joe junior came, with an assistant, on time, to do the work. The old sink removal was very difficult as it was cemented to the tile wall. The two man team proceeded methodically to demolish the sink and base, removed the remnants, then installed the new sink and faucets. Later, they dismantled the Flushmaster to see that the problem needed a new piston which b/c it was an odd size, they didn't have it on the truck and needed to order it. When it came in about ten days, they came right away, replaced the piston and solved the problem. They didn't even charge for the second service call, only for the piston part. How honest and what a nice surprise. I normally don't give YELP reviews, but when the service is outstanding and the workers polite, efficient and knowledgeable, how can I not? Yes, I wholeheartedly recommend them--they are honest, do a great job and are always on time too! read more

I do not recommend Hlad plumbing. Joey D'Esposito overcharged me for simple bathroom plumbing work. I called another local plumber and they had the job completed in an hour for less than he charged me to show up. Alma M Brooklyn, NY read more

We were really disappointed by our recent service from Steve at Hlad. We needed a plumber to uninstall an old washer/dryer set and install a new stacked washer/dryer. After the uninstallation, we noticed that Steve and his assistant left a drain hose attached which we had to cut ourselves (hoping this was okay) when the delivery truck came to take the old machines away. When Steve and his assistant installed the new washer/dryer with a stacking kit, they had it so that the front of the dryer on top was not flush with the front of the washer on bottom. We told them that the set (an expensive brand, Miele) is always flush in the showrooms and online pictures/videos. The assistant told us, "I've installed hundreds of stacked washer/dryers, and they never are flush." So maybe he's done this incorrectly hundreds of times? Steve and the assistant then moved the dryer a little, but still not flush. It just looked wrong. Also, over the phone, Steve had quoted us $300 - $350 to do the job, but when we went to pay, he charged $375. We called him to ask why the extra $25 and he answered, "I'll change it tomorrow," like he was just going to overcharge to see if we didn't notice. Not cool. Steve also charged an extra 4% to pay by credit card but only told us at the last moment. Sadly, we feel like both Steve and his assistant were dismissive to me, a woman, when I suggested the installation was incorrect, but when my husband called to complain, Steve said right away that he'd come back the next day to "make us happy." We declined, not knowing if he was going to mess up again/charge us more/say it was fine the way it was. The next day, we simply read the instructions carefully and fixed the stacking ourselves so that the washer/dryer faces are flush. (But now our brand new washing machine has twelve extra screw holes in it.) My advice: (1) get a quote in writing and (2) don't use Hlad for washer/dryer installing. read more

I moved into an apartment that supposedly had a washer hookup behind a wall. The Hlad team had to remove part of the wall, assess the situation, and add new valves. They were easy to get in touch with, communicated about arrival times, gave me a fair estimate, and did great work. I felt like I was in good hands and wouldn't hesitate to reach out if we need plumbing work in the future. read more

Finally - an honest and affordable plumber. I really appreciate that they gave me a quote over the phone instead of charging me for a service call just to assess the problem; came to my house as promised; and swiftly solved the issue at a reasonable price. I was a longstanding customer of another Brooklyn plumbing company and am switching to Hlad going forward. Thanks for the good work. read more

I called them and got a dollar range that seemed very fair. Two young guys came out and set to work. Involved replacing some old crumbly pipes in a very tight space. Very professional, polite and very capable. I've had some bad experiences with plumbers but these guys were great. :) read more

Our building has used Hlad a few times, so we called them when our radiator wasn't working. Joe came in and said that it needed a huge valve that wouldn't have allowed for the radiator cover to fit, or a small valve that would heat the place, but not get as hot as it could get. We went with the smaller valve and paid him $200. The radiator was still stone cold, so we called another plumber. These guys figured out that our boiler was running at 66%, which was low for such a small boiler, so they adjusted that, and then they replaced the value with a slightly bigger valve, but we were still able to cover the radiator. We paid another $200. The reason I am posting is not because Joe didn't check the boiler, which he probably should have, but because the second plumbers literally cracked up when they saw the valve that Joe had used. They asked if they could take a photo of it for a Plumber's blog they are on where they post funny pictures of crappy plumbing work. They said it was a water valve, not meant for a radiator. I called Joe because I wanted a refund. He said he had to get paid for his time. I told him about the water valve and he said it could be used for either. All I know is now we are getting heat, so we threw $200 away and Hlad Plumbing is $200 richer for no reason. I would recommend avoiding these plumbers. read more

Hlad plumbing has been who I turn to for big and small jobs for years. Honest, dependable, qualified and responsive this Brooklyn based family run business has always come through when plumbing has raised its ugly head. Yesterday I called for a tricky bathroom sink leak and an ice maker disconnect. I got a same day appointment at the odd time I needed it, Joe Jr. came on time and was efficient as always. Joe Sr., his two sons and their crews have helped with large projects as well, always with consideration, fair pricing, expertise and good will. I can't recommend them highly enough, read more

Was referred to HLAD plumbing by a trusted neighbor. Had to call their "dispatch" 3 times over two weeks before I got a call back from Joe. After a brief call and emailing pictures of the valve I needed replaced, I received a note back from Joe telling me that he couldn't get to it for two weeks. Despite having reservations about their ability to accomplish a basic 2 hour job, I replied to the email asking to book that date two weeks out. I heard NOTHING back from HLAD until two weeks later, wherein Joe suggested that he could swing by, by the ed of the week. HLAD must be crushing it, since they are too busy to have basic communication with potential customers. I'm giving two stars since I trust and respect the person who referred me, however if you have any needs that fall below a total bathroom renovation, I would look elsewhere. read more

I have used Hlad plumbing for many years now. The customer service goes above and beyond. The receptionist is always polite and extremely helpful. The guys are hard working and are very diligent. So I called these guys because we needed a plumber and I used to goto the Crossfit next to them. They don't charge for estimates and I price compared them on the first job we needed. I just called them out a second time (for an unrelated matter) Joe was on time (early even) and checked/tuned up my boiler as requested. I know it's expensive to work with licensed plumbers/contractors; but with these guys I do not feel ripped off. I do not expect to need to call another company for plumbing and heating and I totally recommend to everyone. read more

I have used Hlad when John was still there and he did excellent work. Unfortunately things have changed. I had Steve come and install piping for a new sink, he gave me a quoted price for the work. He returned to repair a leak in the cellar and attempted to charge me $200.00 more than the quoted price for the earlier work. I paid cash. Their customer service is unreliable at best and they prices are very high. Would not recommend. read more

Hlad is a terrific plumbing company to work with. I began using them about ten years ago (after trying several others), when John Hlad used to come around himself. Joe is an honest guy who knows his trade. He came over to fix a few problems at our place. He couldn't address a couple of the problems so he recommended an electrician and a sewer company. I called today and they were able to send Joe same day which is great. I have been waiting so long for a plumber for an annual service as my other guy never responded to my calls or texts. Joe was knowledgable and gave me good advice about how to take care of my steam boiler going forward. It looks like we had a near miss and it didn't crack. I felt it was expensive and I don't get a sense of what went into the charge. Lets see if I get an invoice in the mail. My other plumber was cheaper but has not been responsive.
