My son had purchased a few John Hay Cigars for me about a month ago. The cigars were amazing. Full body, slow burn and a smooth finish. I decided to take a trip to the shop and check it out myself. The store is located on the main road in Intercourse at the opening of the Kitchen Kettle Village, so there is plenty of parking. The shop is quaint, clean and inviting. It has a few tables on the porch for smoking. Upon entering, you are greeted by my new friend Dave! He is so nice and so helpful. They have a variety of different cigar brands but I came for the amazing John Hay Cigars. I bought a ton and I am looking forward to smoking each one. The prices are crazy good. Unbelievably worth every penny. I've been to many, many cigar shops and this store is really at the top. Such a nice experience and such a nice place to visit. There is a 100 percent chance I will be returning because it's rare to find a shop that you don't want to leave, maybe like even sleep over! read more

It was nice to enjoy a Cigar with a Broadleaf wrapper from Pennsylvania, and Honduran filler. The Naturals were rough wrapped but a smooth smoke. The Double Expresso was nicely wrapped and a really tasty smoke. The shop itself was small, limited options but then I came for the native made stuff anyhow. The shop is also surrounded by an Amish small town market, really nice area to eat and shop. read more

this is the best cigar shop in town. Prices are good, variety is plentiful, and the owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. They even sell cigars that were made locally. Loads of parking next to the place too read more

I stopped by to grab a dozen CAO Black cigars and when I got home and went to smoke one I realized they were dried out and brittle. I called Dave to let him know and he grabbed one at his shop and confirmed they were brittle. With no hesitation he said "I am going to order you new cigars right now and send them to you". I received the fresh cigars today and they are amazing! Dave is a man of integrity and a man of his word!!! I highly recommend stopping by to see him and grabbing a stick or 12 lol. Absolute gem. Selection caters to local tastes I imagine, but I went with the Diplomat 6x47, which is essentially a Pennsylvania puro. I usually don't enjoy fresh rolled cigars but this is one of the better smokes I've had at any price point in a while. Smooth, oily wrapper. Very nice roll with even ash and smooth burn, not too tight. The flavor right away is surprising. Hits of true milk chocolate. Bright, fresh and rich pure tobacco throughout, with hay and barnyard towards the middle and biscuit sweetness throughout, without ever being overpowering. Not until the nub is the age an issue in the slightest. FAR more complex than expected. These cigars punch above their belt and at ~$5 a stick, incredible value. Impressed is an understatement. This cigar shop is run out of a what is essentially the front room of a wonderful looking home. Service was a young guy who was very nice though not incredibly informed. Added to charm when you know what youre looking for anyway. HIGHLY recommended and I am a new fan of Pennsylvania 41 tobacco and John Hay. read more

Tobacco was the original cash crop in Lancaster County way back in the 18th century and the local Amish farmers continue this tradition today. You can drive through the eastern Lancaster County countryside and see acres and acres of planted rows of big green tobacco plants, the same way you'll see the rows of corn and tomatoes other types of produce. It's a highlight of a trip to through Lancaster County to pullover to the local roadside stands and purchase produce from the very fields you just drove by and eggs from chickens raised on the very land you are standing on. That makes it a bit of a letdown that this doesn't apply to Lancaster County tobacco. 95% of it is shipped out of state, ending up in cigarettes or cheap machine-made cigars destined to be hollowed out and filled with something other than tobacco. Except John Hay Cigars. Located in the tourist trap area of Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse, this unassuming shop has a history dating back to 1882. They carry everything from expensive Cohibas and Arturo Fuentes to cheap Black & Milds and Swisher Sweets, but you really should go for the house brand, because the John Hay cigars are made of local Amish-raised tobacco and rolled in circa 1882 machines. I didn't get the name of the young man behind the counter, but he was friendly and very knowledgeable. There are tables out front on the porch and a lounge in back. I bought a John Hay Panatela Maduro, which was a very good mild cigar, especially when priced at five bucks. My only complaint was I was the only customer in the shop at the time, and missed the conversation and comradery that usually goes along with puffing on a stogie. All-in-all, Lancaster County should be dotted with tobacco shops that sell local tobacco, but John Hay is it. That means I'll be back. 4 stars. read more

Excellent cigar shop. Mostly their own cigars (hand rolled, local tobacco). I enjoy the Panatela Linda, Natural leaf, the most. Excellent staff, great cigar lounge (very helpful in cold weather months). If you are interested in good, local cigars in a friendly establishment, this is the place. read more

Great store. Visited this weekend while the wife and kids perused Kettle Kitchen Village. Not a HUGE selection, but fit the bill I was in the market for. Most of the cigars sold here were their own John Hay brand cigars and they had a size and yes flavor (not really my thing) for just about everyone. I purchased one of their 6X47 hand rolled with a maduro wrapper. I usually go for a fuller bodied smoke, but that medium bodied stoge with it's PA Broadleaf wrapper, binder and filler mixed with some Dominican hit the spot. Like their website says, they aren't the most beautiful but for about $4.00 a stick I feel they are worth every penny. I also bought one of the Ambassador torpedos also in maduro (about $6.50) and a Sons Of Anarchy stick that I haven't had a chance to smoke yet; but I am sure both will be great as well. The staff person though young was a great help and even gave me a light when my torch lighter unexpectedly ran out of butane. If you're not local, they also sell online @ www.johnhaycigars.com. If you enjoy a fine hand rolled as much as I do, check them out. I don't think you will be sorry. I will definitely be back! read more
