The Old Candle Barn is a large store with plenty of parking, LOTS of candles, whimsical decor, patriotic apparel, locally crafted items, and it smells amazing. The old candle barn in Lancaster County is a charming candle and variety store. They sell wide variety of candles in different shapes, sizes, and scents for all occasions. I particularly lingered at the linen and kitchen novelty section. I enjoyed browsing at their kitchen items and home decorations. They quite have a collection of locally made table clothes, place mats, napkins, hand towels etc. There are plenty of souvenir items that you can give to friends and families. If you have some time to spare, there are so many nice little items that are ready to be found inside the barn. The sales people on the floor are all pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable about their products. Although I found that most items are a bit pricey, It's worth a pit stop if you happen to be at Intercourse, PA. read more

Just another quaint visit in the neighborhood! My mom would have loved this place, but as I am young and dont yet have a husband or a house, Its a little hard for me to go into places like this that specialize in seasonal home decor and go nuts as she likely would. I do like to browse and enjoy just seeing what there is, but my commitment level is low for purchase, unless I go in intending to buy a gift for say...my mom. That said, the selection is great, and there are a lot of fall/autumn things up on this visit that I would love to one day decorate my house with. September really crept up on me, and I was surprised to see all the fall things out already. My friend bought some simple candles (12 for $10?) which smell nice and should last her a good while. read more

Yes indeed, The Old Candle Barn has countless candles in the old barn. I don't think I've ever seen so many different types, all shapes, sizes and scents. I also made note of the nearest Emergency Exit signs "just in case" since I watched House of Wax as a kid and it scared the beejeezus out of me, and candles + wax + dry old barn = getting buried in melting wax. Imagination aside, the place is a nice diversion from the very kitschy Kitchen Kettle Village tourist trap next door. There are a lot of country-style handmade local items here in addition to candles. Maybe too much stuff, since you can get a bit overwhelmed walking through the barn, as it starts to feel like a cluttered Pier One Imports. Maybe if they got rid of the "imports" it would be more accessible and feel more Pennsylvania Dutch authentic. However, I did end up buying a bag of Cucumber Melon potpourri for my bathroom. It's worth a stop as you wind your way through Intercourse. read more

Going in, one is immediately engulfed by the rich scents of autumn, and the inside feels like walking inside an enchanted forest. As my wife and I drove around Lancaster County, we noticed a lot of houses and barns had stars on then. We wondered what they were for, and upon walking into the Old Candle Barn, we saw a wonderful selection of stars and an explanation of how they represented a "trademark" of the barn builder, and have grown into a nice ornament a lot of folks put up now. It was a great glimpse into the culture of the area. Inside, you're immediately treated to the sights and sounds of "country charm". If you have a country room or a country home, you can definitely do all your shopping here. There are accessories and ornaments and of course candles to suit any need. Ah, the candles. They have every kind you could wish for: taper candles (still hanging by an uncut wick), votive candles, candles in a jar, candleholders. You can't hold a candle to this place (sorry, I couldn't resist). My wife loves soy candles, and sure enough they had them too. There's a door in the back which, on certain days, you can walk down and watch the candlemakers at work, dipping wicks into large containers of hot wax just as they've done for decades. You're right next to them, so it's tempting to call out to them and ask them questions, but lots of signs are posted to make sure you don't. There is one thing that keeps me from giving this place 5 stars. When I looked through the handcrafted items, I saw a few really cute stuffed items. Then I turned the label around and they said "Made in China". This was the last place on earth I'd think (or want) to see that. I'm shocked that they couldn't find enough local artisans who could produce things cheaper and better. But overall, I was happy I came and I definitely would visit again. read more

The Old Candle Barn is a nice little spot to pick up some household gifts or seasonal decorations. Of course, the big draw here is the variety of candles. We picked some up for my husband's brother, who loves soy candles (I don't know why they are more desirable for him), which they had in great quantity here. The candle jars are very cute in little mason jars and glass pint containers, but we found that the lids on them were difficult to get on. We also loved the handmade soaps, and picked up several bars (I think about $7 each) as gifts. With scents and combinations like oatmeal, minty milk, moonlight lavender, citrus, etc, there is something for everyone. The Barn holds many treasures but it is a bit crowded with stuff. Despite feeling a little like we were in sensory overload, this is a good place to stop in for a little shopping. read more

No need to write a long review here. They have some really great candles and the prices are pretty reasonable. Most of the candles here are soy based so they are very clean burning, and they have 100's of fragrences to satisfy any taste. I picked up a mason jar candle in the angel's food scent and I love it. They offer candle making tours on certain days so call ahead if you want to see candles being made. Worth a look. read more

It has been years since I last stopped in here. It is different than I remember. Besides candles of all different scents and sizes they have so much more. They have a lot of what I guess you would call primitive home decor. While I liked a lot of things in their they were a little pricey, but it is still fun to walk through. Just be careful if you have younger children with you, seems the staff was giving us dirty looks because we had children with us , even though they were not touching anything read more

It's okay. There's a lot of interesting stuff, but very little of it is actually Pennsylvania Dutch. It's all kinda overpriced, and about 3/4 of the stuff is made in China. You might find a few interesting things here, but there are better places to get stuff like this. read more
