When I showed up to my appointment, Aiden told me that my booking was a mistake/that nobody was available to cut my hair. Please understand that I would have no problem with an honest mistake, and I would not be upset if this situation was handled with any sense of apology from the business for playing with my time. However, it was apparent to me based on Aiden's demeanor that it had not been a "mistake", because he was not even remotely apologetic, and he made absolutely zero effort to even ask if I wanted to reschedule/to retain me as a customer; he simply insinuated I had to leave. I believe Aiden refused to service me when he saw who I was (I have never interacted with him in real life, but we have seen each other on Grindr; I had no idea he worked here, and regardless it didn't matter to me, because I came to get my hair cut, not to interact with any human being in particular). Why is the receptionist choosing who is allowed to get their hair cut here based on their personal baggage? I specifically called ahead and asked for a stylist who specializes in short haircuts. Instead, I was paired with someone who seemed fresh out of school and specialized in highlights. I showed the stylist multiple inspiration pictures, but the final result looked nothing like them. Don't let the high-end atmosphere or great reviews fool you--they completely ignored my preferences. Not every woman wants long, highlighted hair. Some of us are professionals who prefer short, sharp styles, and we deserve to be paired with stylists who actually have that skill set. I drove home in tears. Save your money and go somewhere that actually listens to clients.

The stylists that own and operate this place used to work at the Boric's in Urbana (next to the county market), and they are pretty good at what they do. I was surprised to see them in this place, since I knew they are both good at what they do. The difference, of course, is that here they don't have to pay the franchise fee, which could be as high as 60%! The result was that my stylist (Jenny, which I highly recommend her work) took her time and paid lots of attention to what she was doing to my hair, while I always felt rushed when going to Borics, super cuts, etc. with lots of machine cutting. They make a point to keep their prices the same as national chains, so an adult haircut is $13, which is very reasonable. They run coupons in local magazines and ads, and Jenny told me that they would even accept competitor coupons as long as it brings them business. One small point: It's better if you call and make an appointment. You can walk in of-course, but they give preference to people with appointments. I'll call in next time before I go there.

They have an amazing neon sign near the hair washing station that I will have to get a picture of next time. This morning I met with Nicole for a fresh haircut. She was amazing! When done right, having my hair washed, is one of my favorite salon experiences. Nicole did a fantastic job incorporating the right amount of pressure for a lovely scalp massage while washing.
